Our Family Wedding
Directed by: Rick Famuyiwa
Cast: Forest Whitaker, Carlos Mencia, America Ferrera, Lance Gross, Regina King
Running Time: 1 hr 55 min
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: March 12, 2010
Plot: Completely disregarding how perfect and lovely a couple Lucia (Ferrera) and Marcus (Gross) are together, their respective families clash unnecessarily for comic effect. Is it funny to watch other people implode?…yeah, sometimes.
Who’S It For? Anyone looking for a mild, cute little comedy who can convince someone else to buy the tickets.
Expectations: I was happy to see it, because I had it confused with Death at a Funeral. On a Freudian level, that’s actually pretty funny.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Forest Whitaker as Brad Boyd: I like Whitaker in funny roles and I wish he’d do them more. He’s normally so intense and serious that it makes it more fun to watch when he finally gets to let his hair down.

When Our Family Wedding has a goat, running around a mansion, where a wedding is about to take place. Then finding some Viagra and humping one of the main characters (who happens to have an Oscar). You realize that the people behind this flick couldn't decide if this was My Big Fat Greek Wedding or American Wedding. Even worse, one realizes that they're trying to find the middle ground between those two flicks. That my friends, is a bad idea.
If there's a shining light (one that resembles a small flashlight you keep in the glove-compartment) in this roughly 100 minute piece, the cast of stand-up comedians provide a few nice one-liners that can derive a chuckle. Stress, a chuckle. Besides that element, the juxtaposition of going from depth to senseless gags enables the flick to lose its flow. The only thing keeping any sort of...

What happens when you mix “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” with a dash of “Bachelor Party”. You get an absolute train wreck in “Our Family Wedding”. There will surely be few films that are worse in 2010. The whole premise of “Our Family Wedding” is to see how many stereotypes of blacks and Hispanics they can cram into one movie. It starts practically from the beginning when dj playboy Brad Boyd (Forest Whitaker) tries to stop his car from being towed by Miguel Ramirez (Carlos Mencia). Brad assumes almost from the bat that Miguel can’t speak English. This starts an excruciating heated conversation where Miguel calls Brad brother and Brad refers to Miguel as cuz. The type of humor displayed here wasn’t funny twenty years ago. During the process of towing, Miguel has a lot of trouble hooking up the car. Wouldn...
