"The Dragon Prince" has quickly grown into a clear spiritual successor to "Avatar: The Last Airbender," an animated show with a vast and complex world and mythology, as well as an epic scope that helped it become one of the best fantasy stories on TV, including live-action.
After the first three seasons told a complete chapter in the saga, ending with the start of a new era in the fantasy world of the show, season 4 jumped forward in time and kickstarted a new chapter. Dubbed the Mystery of Aaravos arc, most of that season was spent on table setting for the new status quo, the changed dynamics between elves and humans, and building up the show's primordial villain — the Archmage and Startouch Elf Aaravos.

While everyone was fighting over which live-action fantasy show is the best — the one with the rings and the steamy hot sexual tension, or the one with the incest and the dragons that are basically nuclear weapons — the conversations tended to forget that there is another fantasy epic coming out this fall, one with elves and dragons and political scheming of its own.
That's right: Now that the first season of both "House of the Dragon" and "Rings of Power" are over, it's time for the animated series "The Dragon Prince" to shine. A sort of spiritual successor to "Avatar: The Last Airbender" (in craft and tone more than story), "The Dragon Prince" hasn't reached the level of popularity of that Nickelodeon show, but is just as compelling. The show has a vast world that feels lived-in, with a deep and complex mythology, phenomenal production designs, and fascinating characters.

During a Comic-Con@Home panel, Netflix finally announced that not only is another season of The Dragon Prince in the works, but the company will produce at least seven seasons in total.
Over the past two years, Aaron Ehasz’s new show has turned into an absolute sensation. While the story of princes Callum and Ezran and the elven assassin Rayla didn’t generate nearly as much buzz as Avatar: The Last Airbender, the creator has managed to imitate the formula in a brand new fantasy world, one chock-full of adventures, mysteries, diversity and a whole lot of action.
After defeating the forces of Lord Viren with the help of elves and Katolis royalists, a peace treaty between the kingdoms of men and Xadia seems inevitable. Yet, the sinister Aaravos is still at large, and now that Claudia is helping her father, it’ll only be a matter of time...

The creators of The Dragon Prince detail why their mission wasn't to own fandom but just be a part of it.
Corporate social media in 2019 is an odd beast. It’s either boring press release information with room for a few fan retweets, a public realations firm trying their best to be cool, or it’s meme central 24/7 to the point of absurdity. For offical TV series accounts it’s pretty much the same. But not for The Dragon Prince.
The Dragon Prince’s social media accounts are a delight without feeling like that infamous screenshot of Steve Buscemi from 30 Rock where he says, “how do you do, fellow kids?” It’s filled not so much with memes but playfully jokey content. It doesn’t feel like a corporate entity spitting out news but almost like an actual fan of the show is running the account.

The Dragon Prince's upcoming books from Scholastic promise to not be your standard tie-in fare.
A lot of tie-in books for children’s media are fairly disposable. They aren’t always bad, they just don’t often scream out as something for hardcore fans to pick up. Despite some initial hurdles, The Dragon Prince on Netflix is an animated series that's worth your time.
In our age of having a thousand different options for streaming, we’re pickier than ever. In our quest to whittle down our choices we sometimes look more for reasons not to watch something than reasons we should. This is why you may not have checked out one of Netflix’s newest animated series, The Dragon Prince. The show's first two hurdles that make for seemingly perfect reasons not to check it out. The animation and the marketing for the series.
Let’s start with the animation, since this is easily the bigger of the two hurdles. As we pointed out in our review of the first season of The Dragon Prince, it’s choppy and makes you question if your internet is working properly. While it’s not as...

Netflix has announced that they are producing a new animated fantasy series called The Dragon Prince. They also released a poster for the series which you can see in full below. This actually sounds like a promising show as it comes from the writer of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aaron Ehasz, and the director of hit video game franchise Uncharted, Justin Richmond.
We learned from the announcement that the story will center around "two human princes who forge an unlikely bond with the elfin assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands."
Sounds pretty awesome and something that I'd enjoy watching. The original series will make an appearance at Comic-Con next week on July 21st. Ehasz, Richmond and executive producer Giancarlo Volpe (Atla) will offer a sneak peek and an inside look into the epic fantasy tale.

Netflix took to Twitter today to announce The Dragon Prince, its new animated series from Avatar: The Last Airbender headwriter Aaron Ehasz and Uncharted game director Justin Richmond.
The streaming service’s @seewhatsnext account tweeted the first poster from the new series, which will be about “two human princes who forge an unlikely bond with the elfin assassin sent to kill them, embarking on an epic quest to bring peace to their warring lands.”
The all-new original animated series will make an appearance at Comic-Con on July 21. Ehasz, Richmond and executive producer Giancarlo Volpe (Atla) will give a sneak peek and an inside look into this new epic fantasy tale which is slated to hit Netflix in September.
The new series adds to the list of Netflix’s new animated fare of the fantastical persuasion. Matt Groening’s fantasy series Disenchantment is set to premiere on August 17, one month before The Dragon Prince.
