Exclusive: Frank Grillo (Kingdom) has joined the action-thriller Black Lotus, starring eleven-time world kickboxing champion Rico Verhoeven, which is in production in the Netherlands.
In the film from director Todor Chapkanov (Viking Quest), Verhoeven plays the role of special forces officer Matteo Donner. After his best friend died while on a joint mission, he roamed the world struggling with guilt. Back in Amsterdam he ends up in a one-man war in the streets and on the canals of the city. Between explosions, flying bullets and crashing cars, Donner has only one goal: to rescue the kidnapped daughter of his dead friend. Details as to the role that Grillo will be playing haven’t been disclosed. Sint, a brutally humorous Christmas slasher is playing at Tribeca Film Festival this weekend and IFC has announced that they have bought the film to be part of their IFC Midnight brand, which includes a theatrical push and VOD.
IFC Midnight announced today that the company has acquired U.S. distribution rights from sales and production outfit Xyz Films for director Dick Maas’ evil Santa film Saint. The deal includes a theatrical component and was made prior to the movie’s North American premiere in the Cinemania section at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Maas wrote the screenplay for the picture and produced with Tom de Mol. Starring Huub Stapel, Egbert-Jan Weeber, Caro Lenssen, Bert Luppes and Escha Tanihatu, the Dutch film will premiere tonight at 9:00pm at the AMC Loews Village 7.

Slasher movies are awesome. And while I find that the vast majority of new ones leave a lot to be desired when compared to their superior 80s counterparts, I'm always glad to see someone take a, ahem, stab at creating something new.

Actually, the film "Quiz" is next for Dick Maas. While Mr. Maas always has several projects in development, his thriller "Quiz" has now oficially entered the production phase. Tom de Mol is producing, so we have the same team at work which brought us "Sint" last year. While the success of that film had everyone wondering about a possible sequel, apparently Tom and Dick have other plans. The synopsis is as follows: A famous gameshow host is being harrassed in a restaurant by a strange man who claims to have kidnapped his wife and daughter. A morbid game ensues in which the gameshow host turns out to be the candidate. Looking at the poster gives me a strong "Saw" vibe, while the story seems reminiscent...
