The entertainment industry hasn’t always been quite as diverse and open-minded as it is today. From racial discrimination to disparity based on sexuality, as confessed by actors themselves, Hollywood has been a mess for a long time. Take, for example, when late actor Kevin Conroy revealed losing roles because of his homosexuality, before landing Batman: The Animated Series in 1992.

After facing years of discrimination, Kevin Conroy eventually shared the experiences of being a gay actor in Hollywood. Perhaps his grieving words opened the eyes of millions and became an inspiration for change. Thus, years after Conroy’s work as Batman in the Dcau, bisexual actress Stephanie Beatriz could work with ease as Batwoman in Catwoman: Hunted.

A Chaotic or Disaster Bisexual is defined in a variety of ways. They could give off so much chaotic energy, that without knowing anything else about them you could correctly guess that they’re bi. They can also be defined by their awkwardness when it comes to flirting and expressing their feelings. Despite being attracted to a wide variety of people, the Chaotic Bisexual is a hot mess above all else.
While some may see this term as an insult or an essentialization of an entire sexuality, many embrace this title with open arms. Identifying as a Chaotic Bisexual allows us to embrace the flaws that make us human and not take ourselves so seriously. Bi people have to deal with so many misunderstandings both within and outside of the queer community – we’re not queer enough for some, too queer for others – and this term gives us a chance...

For eight seasons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine was one of the most beloved and funniest comedies on TV. The show even survived a shift to a new network, going from Fox to NBC for its final three seasons. Part of the show’s success is certainly owed to the showrunners’ ability to recognize talented people and apply their skills to the best use for the show. Take Chelsea Peretti’s initial audition, for instance.
Chelsea Peretti plays Gina Linetti on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Chelsea Peretti attends the Premiere of Illumination’s “Sing 2” I Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
For the show’s first six seasons, Peretti played Gina Linetti. The character serves as the 99th Precinct’s civilian administrator and assistant to commanding officer Raymond Holt (Andree Braugher). Peretti certainly got a lot of juice out of her character’s outsider status within the ensemble cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Naturally, Gina Linetti has become her signature role.

The eight-season run of "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" was quite a ride. Premiering in 2013, the workplace comedy about the NYPD's 99th precinct capped its first season with surprise Golden Globe wins for best comedy and best television actor in a musical or comedy series for star Andy Samberg. The show continued to receive critical acclaim but never topped the television ratings, leading Fox to cancel the series just shy of its fifth season finale. Due in large part to the outcry from loyal fans, NBC swept in the next day and picked up the quirky comedy for an additional three seasons.
After an extended hiatus due to Covid-19, "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" resumed production in a world shaken by anti-police protests following the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. Stephanie Beatriz is just as much of a badass as her leather-clad no-nonsense "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" character Rosa Diaz. The actress is well-known for being the 99 Precinct's coolest employee — she's scary, smart, and secretive, and no one knows much about her. Most of Rosa's colleagues are frightened to get on her wrong side because she immediately instills fear in everyone she interacts with. She will do what it takes to keep her freedom; Rosa doesn't like to be controlled, and she has no qualms about letting her colleagues know about it.
Stephanie Beatriz also shares her longtime on-screen character's propensity for no-nonsense because when a guest star was disrespectful towards her and other cast members on the "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" set, the actress stood her ground and said her piece.

On the set of Breaking, Michael K. Williams always showed up smelling really good according to his castmates.
Prior to his death last year, Williams had just wrapped production on the thriller-drama that went on to premiere at Sundance Film Festival this year.
“His clothes,” star John Boyega told The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s West Hollywood premiere about what he remembers most about Williams on-set. “The design of his clothes, his fashion sense. He smelled very nice. He had a very nice presence. I’m actually wearing his natural oils tonight because he gave me a bottle.”
“He smelled really wonderful,” actress Selenis Leyva, who plays Rosa Diaz in the film, agreed.

John Boyega and the late, great Michael K. Williams are at the center of a life-or-death standoff in the first trailer for “Breaking,” previously titled “892.”
Based on actual events that occurred in 2017, “Breaking” follows a Marine veteran named Brian Brown-Easley (Boyega) who hits his breaking point when Veterans Affairs misses his monthly disability check. Running out of ways to support his wife (Olivia Washington) and young daughter (London Covington), Brown-Easley slips a note to an Atlanta bank teller reading: “I have a bomb.”
A “Dog Day Afternoon”-style holdup ensues as the customers clear the building and the employees – led by manager Estel Valerie (Nicole Beharie) and Rosa Diaz (Selenis Leyva) try to stay calm. Brown-Easley does indeed have a bomb, and a plan to kill himself and everyone in the building if his demands are not met.

Stephanie Beatriz lit up the Oscars stage last month, performing a rendition of the hit song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” with her fellow voice cast members of Disney’s “Encanto.” But Disney itself is currently at the center of a different free speech issue, as the company feuds with Florida government officials over its opposition to the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
Speaking to Variety at the 2022 Outfest Fusion Qtbipoc Film Festival Gala at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center on Friday, Beatriz said the current wave of anti-gay and anti-trans legislation, which has recently taken hold in Alabama, “keeps me up at night.” Although Disney is currently facing backlash from both ends of the political spectrum, she’s thankful for the positive representation she’s taken part in through the animated movie.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine did not waste any opportunity to tackle some of today's pressing issues that occurred during the pandemic. Among those include police brutality, confined spaces with loved ones, relationship conflict, and more.
A double episode premiere, Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 1 and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 2 is a powerful start to the show's last season.
"The Good Ones" is the stronger episode of the two. However, the premiere successfully shows that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is back and better than ever.
With George Floyd's murder and the rise of police brutality protests during 2020, Andy Samberg, who plays Jake Peralta, discussed how Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 would deal with these issues.
And the show certainly does not hesitate as they dive right in, starting with Rosa quitting the NYPD to become a private investigator on behalf of police brutality victims.

I'll always remember the night of December 5, 2017. It holds an incredibly special place in my heart because that's the original air date for the 99th episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine - the episode in which Rosa Diaz comes out as bisexual. It might not seem like a big deal, but Stephanie Beatriz, the bisexual actress who plays Diaz on the show, gets right to the heart of why it matters, telling Vulture: "The main thing for me was that the character said 'bisexual' and that she said it so many times." And she's right - how many characters have been able to name their bisexuality without being the villain of the story or having their sexual promiscuity become a major plot point?
The answer is . . . not many.
In GLAAD's annual Where We Are on TV Report, they note that there are 95 regular LGBTQ+ characters on original streaming scripted series, and 46 LGBTQ+ recurring characters.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was always produced by NBC, and now that its home where it belongs, it’s become a staple of the network’s comedy line-up. The series is also enjoying a new streaming home on Peacock, where it is available to stream with a Premium subscription. Always a critical favorite, the workplace sitcom seemed to be rejuvenated by the network switch, and viewers have responded. According to Deadline, the “last season grew to… 6.4 million viewers overall.” NBC executives were quick to renew the series for season 8 just weeks after its season 7 debut. Then in February, NBC confirmed that season 8 will be the show’s final.
However, a number of events have delayed the return of the series. Besides the obvious production hurdles due to Covid-19 restrictions, showrunner Dan Goor revealed that his writing team threw out completed scripts for the eighth season following George Floyd’s death and the...

Exclusive: Carmen Carrera, Stephanie Beatriz and YaYa Gosselin have joined the cast of transgender writer/director Kase Peña’s debut feature, Trans Los Angeles.
The anthology film is comprised of four stand-alone shorts. Each will take place in a different part of L.A., offering a glimpse into the daily life of a different Trans character.
Carrera, Beatriz and Gosselin will star in a segment called Period, which centers on Vergara (Carrera), a Trans Latinx woman recently released from the LA County Jail who gets a part-time job taking care of a shy 12-year-old girl (Gosselin), while doing sex work on the side, to make ends meet. For Vergara, the latter decision comes as a major risk, considering that sex work is what got her locked up in the first place.

Even for celebrated Latinx performers like John Leguizamo, finding success in the entertainment industry is a hard-fought and seemingly never-ending battle. But as a newcomer to the business, Leguizamo recalls being galvanized by the struggle into telling his own stories.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s first-ever international remake has released a trailer… and it’s not sitting well with the cast of the original.
The promo for the French-language Escouade 99 dropped on Thursday, and B99 star Melissa Fumero was among the first to give her two cents on it.

Arrowverse fans were left stunned yesterday when the news broke that Ruby Rose is leaving the Arrowverse behind after just one season as the star of Batwoman. The CW DC series is still going ahead with its second season, though, with bosses promising that they’re dedicated to finding a new leading lady who’s part of the Lgbt community. But who could the next Kate Kane be? Well, one actress has already thrown her name into the ring.
Stephanie Beatriz – who identifies as bisexual – is most known for playing badass detective Rosa Diaz on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but she’s clearly got her eye on some kind of superhero role. The actress previously made it known that she would love to play Marvel’s She-Hulk, for example. Having since ruled herself out of that race, though, Beatriz has now set her sights elsewhere. This contains spoilers for the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” Season 7 episode titled “Valloweaster.”
To celebrate Detective Rosa Diaz’s third time winning “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” seasonal “heist” episode, Stephanie Beatriz — who has played Rosa for seven seasons — said her throaty, deadpan character would likely be eight beers in, egging on the rest of the zany members of Brooklyn’s 99th precinct in the fight that breaks out among them at the conclusion of Thursday night’s episode.
But like many others, Beatriz herself has been self-isolating and watched the shenanigans unfold over some wine at home.
The heist episodes have been a show tradition since Season 1, often doubling as its Halloween episodes, with the winning character declared an “amazing human genius” and topped off with a speech detailing the sometimes-byzantine way he/she/they got there.
Unlike previous heists, though, Season 7’s spanned three notable dates and holidays.

Dillman may be clever, but he's not the greatest detective Holt has ever worked with.
Apparently, no one that we know is either.
On Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 7 Episode 9 what seems to be a prank goes horribly wrong, and Holt launches an investigation in search of the culprit.
However, he won't be leading the charge, a detective named Dillman will be.
Dillman is someone Holt had previously worked with who was fired from the NYPD for looking into "dirty" cops.
Dillman's played by the fantastic J.K. Simmons, who always knows how to unnerve the audience with his intense demeanor.
Dillman: Based on your reaction I know everything about you as a person.
Jake: That can't be true.
Holt: It is. You're cooked.

Fans of sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” are often perplexed when they hear actor Stephanie Beatriz in real life: Unlike the the throaty register Beatriz speaks in as Detective Rosa Diaz on the show — perfectly suited for the deadpan quality she delivers her lines — her actual voice is upbeat and pitched about an octave higher.
“They’re very confused,” Beatriz, who is now in her seventh season on the show, tells Variety.
In 2017, the show’s 99th episode featured a storyline personal to Beatriz: Rosa coming out as bisexual. Beatriz worked with executive producer and writer Dan Goor on bringing empathy to Rosa’s story, drawing on Beatriz’s own experience as a queer Latinx woman. Beatriz recalls family and friends dismissing her bisexuality as a “phase” or that it “wasn’t real.”

The character played by Beatriz, Rosa Diaz, also made [...]

With people hungry for news about Disney Plus’ upcoming She-Hulk series, everyone is speculating about who will get to play the titular heroine. Which actress has the gall to take on the role of the mighty green beastette? That’s what we all want to know. We’ve already talked about how Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s very own Stephanie Beatriz (Rosa Diaz for the eight of you out there that don’t know) has thrown her hat into the ring. And now, it appears that Mark Ruffalo has voiced his own idea about who would be his dream She-Hulk.
If anyone can shine some light on this, then surely Bruce Banner can, right? According to Entertainment Tonight, Ruffalo is certain that Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie and Men in Black: International) would fit the character perfectly. He’s already worked with her on Thor: Ragnarok and he is the Hulk, so who are we to question his judgement?...

While no other details have yet to be released other than the official logo, almost as soon as the news was revealed the speculation about who could play Bruce Banner’s cousin Jennifer Walters began and it hasn’t died down yet.
Several names have already been gaining some traction among fans, but one of the favorites appears to be Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz, with the actress herself admitting that she would relish the opportunity to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the green-skinned lawyer if given the chance.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” made its move from Fox to NBC this month, marking the sixth season Stephanie Beatriz is portraying the gruff but lovable Det. Rosa Diaz. It is her longest-running role, and it may just be the one most close to her, as she personally inspired Rosa’s coming out storyline on the show last season. But Beatriz is not a one-character wonder, also grabbing attention for her portrayal of Gloria’s sister on “Modern Family,” her vocal performances in the animated “Danger & Eggs” and “BoJack Horseman,” and starring in and exec producing indie feature “The Light of the Moon” in 2017.
What keeps “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” fresh for you, this far in and knowing Rosa inside and out?
What struck me when you just said that is “Oh no, I don’t!” This woman is someone who keeps so many secrets, and I think she’s one of those women that keeps secrets from herself,...

Yes, yes, the ratings for the Season 6 premiere of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” — which hit a two-year high when the former-Fox comedy debuted on NBC Thursday night — were fantastic. But now it’s time to talk about the most important part of the season opener: Holt’s T-shirts.
While accidentally crashing Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy’s (Melissa Fumero) honeymoon, Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) spent the better part of the episode wearing a series of novelty vacation T-shirts that were completely out of character for the 99th precinct’s no-nonsense leader.

And Holt’s new garments — bought out of necessity when he forgot to pack accordingly for his last-minute pity vacation, after losing out on the police commissioner position — have already amassed quite a cult following on social media.

As Tom Sawyer learned when the people of St. Petersburg, Missouri gathered to erroneously mourn him, Huck Finn and Joe Harper, funerals are wasted on the dead. Better to say all those nice things to the ones you love while they’re still around to hear them.

If “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” can only manage to wrangle back either Gina Rodriguez or Jason Mantzoukas for a storyline on its upcoming sixth season, you better hope star Stephanie Beatriz isn’t the one asked to pick which guest star gets to return, seeing as we’d probably end up with no one.
Beatriz, who plays Detective Rosa Diaz on the former-Fox-now-NBC comedy, told TheWrap she’s not capable of choosing which of her on-screen love interests — the brand-new Alicia (Rodriguez) or her former fiance Adrian Pimento (Mantzoukas) — she’d rather see make a comeback in the next batch of episodes.
“Well, that’s really a ‘Sophie’s Choice,’ isn’t it?” Beatriz told TheWrap during the show’s press day earlier this month, ahead of its Season 6 premiere Jan. 10 on NBC. “That’s a ‘Sophie’s Choice.’ My hard pitch- I can’t even say it!”

The formula for a television comedy used to be so simple: Take a couple of larger-than-life characters, put them in an uncomfortable situation, pepper in three jokes per page and/or a pratfall, and viola — instant laughs. But when you really step back to think about it, that formula was kind of mean.
When the audience was laughing because Lucy Ricardo had to stuff her shirt with chocolate since she couldn’t work fast enough, the audience was effectively laughing at Lucy. Early television comedies didn’t ask that the audience think that hard about them, though, so no one felt too badly then — and, hey, Lucille Ball herself was willing to put herself in those crazy situations anyway. Instead, such comedies could be easily written off as mindless programming for viewers who wanted to turn off their brains and let content wash over them.
But the format evolved — thanks...

Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t what you’ve got ’til it’s gone? That brilliant Joni Mitchell lyric is exactly how “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” fans felt after Fox chose to cancel the beloved sitcom after five seasons. While the show’s ratings have always been low, mere minutes after the news broke we saw fans and celebrities come forward to profess their love for the show, from Lin-Manuel Miranda to Mark Hamill to Guillermo del Toro. Thirty-six hours later, NBC stepped in to save the day and revived the show it has technically always owned but never had the rights to air. With this renewed buzz for the film, could we expect a big embrace of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at the upcoming Emmy Awards?

It may come as no surprise that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actress Stephanie Beatriz has no trouble speaking up when a man’s behavior crosses a line. In a recent interview with Vulture, the actress and Lgbtq advocate shared an anecdote that will sound all too familiar to many women in Hollywood, about an older male actor who was calling everyone “honey,” “babe,” and “baby” on set. (Beatriz did not share the actor’s name). Observing him interacting with the other women on set, Beatriz remembers wishing he would call her a name just so she would have a chance to respond.
“Sure enough once we hit set, he did speak to me that way, and I said, ‘I’d really prefer it if you called me by my name.’ And he was like, ‘All right, sweetie.’ And then I stopped and said, ‘No. I am actually serious. I am not sweetie.

Here’s my confession: For a long time, I didn’t really get Brooklyn Nine-Nine. I’d seen some of the beginning and been underwhelmed by it. Andy Samberg’s character, Detective Jake Peralta, seemed childish in a way that felt somewhere between dumb and upsetting. Stephanie Beatriz’s Rosa Diaz was gruff and felt one-dimensional. And the worst, to my unenlightened eye, was Melissa Fumero’s Amy Santiago, who came off as an un-fun, rule-oriented nag, primarily positioned to harsh Jake’s buzz and clean up his messes. I was not a fan.
I was so wrong. And now that Fox has cancelled Brooklyn Nine-Nine after its fifth season, I’m heartbroken the show won’t be around anymore (though there’s hope yet it could get picked up by another network). It’s not just that it’s developed tremendously from my initial, unimpressed glance — it’s that...

Things are going to get serious on the next “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” when the tough as nails Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) responds to an active shooter situation. Meanwhile, the precinct does whatever it can to make things easier on the detective in peril. Even if that means solving a plumbing crisis.
In the clip above from Sunday’s episode of the Fox comedy, titled “Show Me Going,” which is exclusive to TheWrap, Gina (Chelsea Peretti) is getting pretty anxious just sitting around listening to the situation on Captain Holt’s (Andre Braugher). So she turns to her best source of comfort, listening to herself perform a song she herself wrote.
After Amy (Melissa Fumero) tolerates hearing the first few bars of a track that we can only assume is called “Subway Girl,” she cuts Gina off to ask for her help in fixing a broken toilet that was annoying Rosa earlier. Apparently Gina was supposed to have dealt with this last week. Um, you sure about that Amy? Or were you the one who was supposed to have dealt with it?

We learned this weekend that Fox’s Golden Globe-winning comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for a second season, but that doesn’t mean surly Detective Rosa Diaz is any more chipper than usual.
In an exclusive clip from Tuesday’s episode, Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) has to make amends after publicly shaming a colleague. When her mea culpa is predictably prickly, Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) takes her aside to coach her on the proper apologizing technique.

Over 14 episodes, with a 15th set to air in a prime post-Super Bowl slot this Sunday, police department comedy "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has grown into one the season's strongest new shows. Earlier this month, the freshman series even walked away with a Golden Globe for Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical, besting the likes of "Big Bang Theory," "Girls" and "Modern Family," as well as fellow Michael Schur creation "Parks & Recreation." And while Andy Samberg also snagged a statuette for his performance as gifted cop and terminal manchild Jake Peralta, what's made the series come together is the depth of talent of its ensemble, from Andre Braugher as the deadpan Capt. Ray Holt to Joe Lo Truglio's tyrannized Det. Charles Boyle to Stephanie Beatriz's perpetually scowling Det. Rosa Diaz. Beatriz has emerged as a standout even in a cast crowded with very funny people, her Diaz a leather jacketed tough...

Now that "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" has broken out for Fox, even earning the plum post-Super Bowl slot in 2014, it's time to start diving a bit deeper into the show's world. Among the biggest questions fans have? When will we meet Captain Ray Holt's (Andre Braugher) husband? And, more to the point, who will play him?
Zap2it had the opportunity to speak to cast members Chelsea Peretti and Stephanie Beatriz on who they could see stepping in as Holt's significant other, and their visions couldn't be more different.
Peretti, who stars as the lone civilian of the series, Holt's personal assistant Gina, threw out several bold names for the role, each of them funnier than the last. "What if Bill Cosby was Holt's husband? That would be amazing," she says. "What are his politics, though? He has such strange opinions, Bill Cosby ... It's a topic of interest of who would Holt's husband be.

"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" is the newest offering from Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the creative team behind NBC's critically-acclaimed comedy "Parks and Recreation." It chronicles the titular police precinct, led by Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), Det. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) and newly-appointed Captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher).
Like "Parks and Rec," this workplace comedy has a plethora of comedic storylines at its disposal -- in fact, "Brooklyn" arguably has more, being set in a police department in the biggest city in the U.S., as opposed to a local government office in a small Indiana town.
Also like "Parks and Rec," while there is a "Saturday Night Live" alum as the quote-unquote star, the supporting cast is rich and varied. Finally, like "Parks and Rec," the heart is apparent from the get-go, which is what every great comedy needs at its core.

On September 17th, SNL‘s Andy Samberg is going to try to sell you on cop comedy, and it’s about as tough a game as coming up with a Brooklyn Nine-Nine Review. I suspect he’s going to manage it, but it’s the kind of show that you’re going to want to know what you’re in for. You have to go a long way to find something worthy of comparison that doesn’t make this show sound like Scrubs P.D., and when you go that far back, the comparison may not make a lot of sense.
In a recent interview, show creators Dan Goor and Michael Schur (of Parks & Recreation – which gives an idea of the feel) mentioned Barney Miller, and that’s actually the best show I can think of to try to put Brooklyn Nine-Nine in a neat cubby, but that needs some explanation in itself.

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.
