Some of Hollywood’s leading gender equality activists will take part in the second annual Women’s Media Summit, including keynote speaker Dr. Stacy Smith, producer Fanshen Cox Digiovanni, and attorney Kalpana Kotaga — the co-creators of Hollywood’s “inclusion rider.” The summit will be held April 5-7 in Provincetown, Ma.
Smith, founder and director of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative at the USC/Annenberg School of Journalism, first proposed the adoption of “inclusion riders” in Hollywood contracts back in 2014. But they remained largely unknown until Frances McDormand finished her best actress acceptance speech earlier this month by saying: “I have two words for you: inclusion rider.”
As conceived by Smith, who is widely regarded as one of the leading researchers and advocates for diversity in the entertainment industry, inclusion riders are addenda to employment contracts designed to create more equitable casting and hiring of behind-the-scenes workers.

New York writer-director Deborah Goodwin is following up her UK debut "Vampires In Venice" with Brooklyn gang drama "The Pastor," which just began filming in Brooklyn. Goodwin wrote the film from a story by Arturo Muyshondt about a paroled former gang leader (Muyshondt) who tries to rebuild a church in Hispanic gang territory in Brooklyn. He wants to establish a green zone to curb gang violence in the community, but he is met with resistance from rival gang leaders who threaten him and his family. He struggles to hang on to his faith as he fights against his own violent instincts. He doesn't want to become a killer again. The film is financed and produced by short filmmaker and actor turned Miami investment banker Muyshondt's WolfGang Cinema, a film production company which backs cross-cultural films for multicultural audiences. Wgc has also developed and will finance and produce Goodwin's next feature,...

It's summer movie season, which means horror fans have sun, surf, and killer fish on the brain. We've been bringing you tons of "Piranha 3Dd" news – because life just doesn't feel complete without it – but this week's best in horror updates also skinny-dips, battles sharks (and some invisible sea creatures), and heads to Venice, California.
Movies like "Hobo With a Shotgun" and "Machete" have breathed new life into the exploitation subgenre, and "Skinny Dip" is upping the ante with a great cast that includes Sasha Grey, badass Danny Trejo, and now Pam Grier, Michael Madsen, and Brigitte Nielsen. Meanwhile, Halle Berry is battling sharks in "Dark Tide," but the cast of "Sector 7" has to deal with a transparent monster on board their ship. There's a vampire on Venice Beach that wants to take a bite out of you. No, it isn't Lindsay Lohan, but she's dressed to...

Ah, Cannes. How we love keeping track of all the news coming out of your film market! Along with the several other stories we've already covered, now comes the first sales trailer for Bleiberg Entertainment's Vampires in Venice directed by Deborah Goodwin.
Synopsis:
Keith (Edward Remington Hoffman), a young fresh-faced actor, arrives in Hollywood on All Hallow's Eve and is hustled by a mad real estate agent to move into an abandoned rental house in Venice where he’s warned by his weird neighbor that “evil is everywhere”. On his first night in his new digs, he’s attacked by some kind of vampire bat and begins to feel a change coming on. When he rescues an attractive escaped mental patient named Laci (Aleksei Archer) from his basement and is threatened by a wild gang of “Fanpires” (fans of the undead), he has to admit that something is definitely messed up.

Years ago, USA Network's "Up All Night" used to repeatedly run a cheap sucky vampire flick called Malibu Beach Vampires. When I saw the title Vampires in Venice I instantly assumed it meant Venice, Italy. Nope. The title refers to sunny Venice, California. Please let this film be better than Malibu Beach Vampires.
Newcomer Deborah S. Goodwin wrote, directed, and co-produced this tale of Califonivampification starring Edward Remington Hoffman, Aleksei Archer, Jennifer Skyler, and longtime character actor Bill Cobbs.
On his first night in his new place in Venice Beach, Keith is attacked by some kind of vampire bat and begins to feel a change coming on. Whatever’s inside him is taking over fast and he is unable to remember if the visions of blood in his head are a nightmare or reality.
Bleiberg Entertainment are handling the distribution for the film.
And, uh, well, that's really about...
