International buyers have given a generally positive response to this week’s three-day London Screenings event held at Picturehouse Central from June 21-23, organised by Film London.
“It was very good to catch-up after Cannes to get a broader picture of what is coming from the UK,” said Anna Lindstrom, acquisitions manager at Stockholm-based Lucky Dogs.

The deal was negotiated between Signature’s Elizabeth Williams and Hanway’s Nicole Mackey. Release is set for 2022.

Fortissimo Films’ sells Spanish rights to the Toronto-bound period drama.
Bilbao-based Festival Films has picked up the Spanish distribution rights to Terence Davies’ Sunset Song from Fortissimo Films.
The period drama, starring Peter Mullan (Tyrannosaur), Agyness Deyn (Pusher) and Kevin Guthrie (The Legend Of Barney Thomson), will receive its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (Sept 10-20) in Special Presentations.
Davies’ long-gestating passion project is an adaptation of the 1932 classic Scottish novel by Lewis Grassic Gibbon, about a farmer’s daughter in early 20th-century Scotland facing a series of hardships.
Davies has frequently played in Toronto, starting with Distant Voices, Still Lives in 1988 and most recently with The Deep Blue Sea in 2011, which Festival Films previously released in Spain.

Naji Abu Nowar’s debut feature screens in New Directors/New Films this week and follows a young boy who sets off on a dangerous journey across the desert at the height of World War I.
The New York-based distributor picked up the rights to the film at the European Film Market during the Berlinale last month. The deal was finalised by Film Movement’s president Michael E. Rosenberg with Nicole Mackey at Fortissimo Films.
A late 2015 theatrical release is planned, followed by on-demand, digital and home video releases.

Chloé Zhao’s drama, which debuted at Sundance last week, snapped up in France.
Diaphana has acquired French rights to Chloé Zhao’s feature debut, Songs My Brothers Taught Me, from Fortissimo Films.
The deal was negotiated between Diaphana’s Karin Beyens and Fortissimo’s Nicole Mackey.
The film premiered last week at Sundance in the Us Dramatic Competition section and Fortissimo fielded multiple offers from various international territories.
Fortissimo holds international rights to the film, for which sales are to take place at the European Film Market (Efm) (Feb 5-13).
The film, also written by Zhao, is a portrait of modern day life on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation that explores the bond between a brother (John Reddy) and his younger sister (Jashaun St. John), who find themselves on separate paths to rediscovering the meaning of home.

Fortissimo Films has announced that Winnie Lau is leaving after 13 years with the company to join a leading production house in a senior capacity.
Lau served in a variety of roles at Fortissimo in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, New York and most recently Beijing. Her new appointment will be announced in the next few days.
Fortissimo Films chairman Michael J. Ashim Ahluwalia’s highly anticipated feature debut will premiere in Un Certain Regard at Cannes Film Festival on May 24.
The catalog of Ad Vitam includes films like Take Shelter by Jeff Nichols, Farewell My Queen by Benoit Jacquot, Miss Bala by Gerardo Naranjo and Bull Head by Michael R. Roskam.
The deal was negotiated by Fortissimo’s Evp of sales and acquisitions Nicole Mackey with Alexandra Henochsberg and Gregory Gajos of Ad Vitam.

Troma Entertainment's Lloyd Kaufman was elected to a two-year term as chairman of the Independent Film & Television Alliance during the trade association's annual members meeting Thursday.
He replaces Michael Ryan, who has held the post for four years. An executive committee member, Ryan was elected vice chairman, while Paul Hertzberg was elected vice chairman/secretary.
IFTA president and CEO Jean Prewitt said Kaufman "is a dynamic leader whose energy, creativity and global relationships will help further lead IFTA in today's increasingly challenging environment."
Executive committee members remaining in their current roles include Ehud Bleiberg, chairman of the export alliance; Mark Damon, general vice chairman; Lewis Horwitz, vice chairman/finance.
