We’ve taken a pen to the UK Christmas TV and radio schedules and circled the shows we’re looking forward to. Add yours below!
Amid the cosy repeats, big movies and inescapable cranberry-stuffed cookery shows on TV this month are a few original gems. Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s Inside No. 9 festive special The Devil Of Christmas (Tuesday the 27th of December, 10pm, BBC Two) is top of our must-watch list. Hot on its heels is Yonderland’s family friendly Yonder Yuletide (Saturday the 24th of December, 6.30pm, Sky One). Another for families on Sky is the Christmas Day Jasper Fforde adaptation The Last Dragonslayer, while Channel 4 has the non-festive-but-essential-for-fans-of smart-sci-fi Humans series two finale (Sunday the 18th of December, 9pm).

Luisa Zissman had a secret affair with a stripper. The 'Celebrity Big Brother' star, who is known for her raunchy antics, reportedly romanced Lotan Carter after watching him perform with stripping group The Dreamboys, while she was dating millionaire Andrew Collins. According to The Sun newspaper, the 26-year-old beauty told Lotan: ''I want to f*** you'', before they started up a four-month affair, which came to a halt when the hunk found out she wasn't single. Lotan, 25, adored the Apprentice runner-up and was said to be ''furious'' when he discovered she was with Andrew, an internet tycoon. He said:...

In this extract from his forthcoming book, the Observer's new film critic, Mark Kermode, examines how the internet has changed the role of the professional reviewer. When everyone has an opinion, what value does the critic retain?
"Forrest Gump on a tractor." Those five words are probably my favourite film review ever. More importantly, they constitute the most damaging hatchet job I ever encountered, managing to do something I had often argued was impossible – to kill a movie stone dead. I didn't read them in a newspaper or on a blog, I didn't hear them on the radio or television; rather, they were whispered in my ear by a trusted friend and colleague, David Cox, as the house lights went down on a screening of David Lynch's The Straight Story.
I'd been really looking forward to that movie. I've been a huge Lynch fan ever since being blindsided by...

There is a perception that media-types who live in the South of England tend to be rather London-centric, and while I’m loathed to conform to a stereotype, it’s sort of true. Most of the films made in the UK are shot in or around the capital, and most press screenings, junkets and events take place in the city. Consequently, for those of us who live nearby, there’s rarely any reason to venture outside of the M25, and it takes something very special to get us to even consider doing so.

The show in question was Simon Mayo...
