A pioneer of grassroots distribution for independent films, Caitlin founded the boutique film distribution firm Film Sprout in 2009, becoming a leading champion of the distribution of documentary films in community settings, and an advocate of film's power to effect grassroots social change. Film Sprout was sold to social impact agency Picture Motion in December 2018.
Through Film Sprout, Caitlin was the architect and engineer of community screening campaigns and audience engagement efforts for more than fifty films, including King Corn (SXSW 2007), Pray the Devil Back to Hell (Tribeca 2008), The End of the Line (Sundance 2009), A Small Act (Sundance 2010), The Invisible War (Sundance 2012), DamNation (SXSW 2014), Vessel (SXSW 2014), The Hunting Ground (Sundance 2015), Frame by Frame (SXSW 2015), Trapped (Sundance 2016), Where to Invade Next (Toronto 2016), Audrie & Daisy (Sundance 2016), Newtown (Sundance 2016), Unrest (Sundance 2017), Whose Streets? (Sundance 2017) and The Devil We Know (Sundance 2018). Her one-on-one filmmaker consultations and live presentations at Sundance, SXSW, Hot Docs, IFP, Sheffield Doc/Fest, the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and The New York Foundation for the Arts also guided more than 400 unique projects through the work of creating social impact, distribution revenue and audience engagement through a community screenings strategy. She serves on the boards of the Brooklyn documentary center UnionDocs and the Portland-based nonprofit Northwest Documentary.
