The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival ended its 6th edition last Thursday with the sold-out closing night East Coast Premiere of Rob Jabbaz’s The Sadness at Nitehawk Cinema and announced today its jury and audience award winners. Launching on October 14th with the NY Premiere of Mlungu Wam (Good Madam), Brooklyn Horror is proud to have welcomed back an eager and excited audience who packed the cinemas after a one year pandemic related hiatus and hosted a majority of sold-out screenings, with special highlights being the festival’s 35mm projection of Session 9, presented for its 20th anniversary with lead actor and co-writer Stephen Gevedon in attendance, and the US Premiere of local filmmaker Edoardo Vitaletti’s debut The Last Thing Mary Saw, with Rory Culkin and Vitaletti present for the Q&a.

UK Haunters: "UK Haunters is a vlog style documentary that explores the UK Haunt scene from the Pov of film maker Dan Brownlie as he opens up the UK haunt scene for the world to view. While shooting a feature film at the London Tombs scare attraction (entitled 'The Tombs'), director Dan Brownlie got a peek into the inner workings of how scare attractions work and some of the tricks of the trade. Bowled over by the ingenuity and inventiveness he decided he needed to know more. After searching for more information Dan found there were no documentaries covering the huge UK scene,...

We are big fans here of Dutch director Yfke van Berckelaer's short film Lili. And we're not the only ones: since its appearance at festivals a year ago, the short has been making a victory lap around the world, picking up awards all over the place for its direction and its star Lisa Smit. And the good news is: thanks to horror short network Alter, all eight-and-a-half minutes of Lili can now be seen for free online by clicking the link below. In my review, I said this about the story: Basically what we get to see is an actress during an audition, doing the same line-reading over and over again, following the instructions of a mostly off-screen director (acting veteran Derek de Lint). At...

Dutch filmmaker Yfke Van Berckelaer's latest short film Lili has been making the festival rounds this past Summer and we have the trailer to share with you this morning. Lili (Lisa Smit – Netflix’s Ares) knows she has to nail this audition. The Man (Derek de Lint – Soldier of Orange/The Unbearable Lightness of Being) she auditions for, knows this too. Thus starts an uncomfortable cat and mouse game in this #metoo horror, about power, the misuse of power and female empowerment. We have seen Lili. We have watched it slowly descend into genuinely creepy territory then turn right savage. All shot in a single-take you think you know where it is going and you're partially right. Until... Lili has been an...

Reviewing a short can be a difficult endeavour, especially one which is only nine minutes long. At that length, it's hard to tell people what a film is about without spoiling it almost entirely. So rest assured I will keep the description of Lili to a minimum. Basically what we get to see is an actress during an audition, doing the same line-reading over and over again, following the instructions of a mostly off-screen director (Dutch acting veteran Derek de Lint). At the beginning everything is nice and fine, but... well, you're never more powerless than when you apply for a job, and we all know the stories about what happens during auditions, right? Director Yfke van Berckelaer deftly...
