Donald Trump appeared at a rally hosted by super Pac Buckeye Values in Dayton, Ohio, on Saturday supporting Bernie Moreno, the Senate candidate vying for the GOP primary who Trump endorsed.
Moreno is competing with state Senator Matt Dolan and Secretary of State Frank Larose in the Republican primary, the winner of which will go head-to-head against Democrat Senator Sherrod Brown. Brown is one of the two Democrats (the other is Montana Democrat Jon Tester) running for reelection in red states. The two races will be pivotal in determining which party controls the Senate.

When former SNL writer Harper Steele came out as trans, she told her friends and family via email. “I’m old now,” the letter said, “I’ll be transitioning to live as a woman.” In addition to announcing her plans, she also shared some of her anxieties about the process. Her fear was not about transitioning, but that she might lose some people that she loved.
Steele and her close friend Will Ferrell read the email at the top of their endearing documentary, Will & Harper. The film, directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar) chronicles a 16-day road trip the two friends take across America to process Steele’s transition, reflect on their friendship and consider what it means to be trans in America. On that last subject, the doc is well-meaning but shaky; traveling through some of the most hostile towns in the country...

The world of sports, Hollywood and politics came together online today to mourn the passing of Jim Brown, who made an outsized impact in all of those sectors.
Even though his last NFL game was more than 50 years ago, and his last film more than eight years ago, Brown still loomed large in the minds of those politicians, athletes and organizations who marveled at his skills in multiple venues.
Some of the online reactions so far:
I was too young to remember Jim Brown’s playing days, but I knew his legacy. One of the greatest football players ever, he was also an actor and activist – speaking out on civil rights, and pushing other Black athletes to do the same. Our thoughts are with Jim’s wife Monique, his…

Stephen Colbert knocked the train industry and Environmental Protection Agency during Monday evening’s “The Late Show” monologue after reports found that shipments of contaminated soil and water from the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment were sent to Michigan and Texas without warning.
“No surprise, Michigan and Texas weren’t happy with the surprise. So the Epa stopped the shipments of toxic waste and the new plan is to schlep it back to various locations in Ohio, including the town of East Liverpool, which is literally on the Ohio river. Not the best containment plan,” Colbert said, before mocking: “All right everybody, it’s safe to go back in the pool. We scooped the diaper out of the deep end and we placed it safely at the top of the water slide. All right, everybody in.”

East Palestine, Ohio — Donald Trump traveled to East Palestine, Ohio, on Wednesday to try to make political hay out of the Feb. 3 train derailment that released hazardous toxins into the town on the state’s border with Pennsylvania.
The former president spoke for around 10 minutes to a hand-selected group of Trump-friendly journalists assembled at the town’s fire station. He claimed, as he’s been doing since last week, that he’s responsible for any federal aid on its way to East Palestine, while alleging the Biden administration doesn’t...

East Palestine, Ohio — Residents suffering ailments in the aftermath of the recent train derailment here came to a makeshift clinic Tuesday with their symptoms, stories, and, perhaps more pointedly, their frustrations.
It’s been three weeks since the derailment resulted in a massive toxic spill and a faint chemical smell still fills the air. Local hospitals and clinics have treated hundreds of people for a wide range of ailments associated with the spill, including headache, respiratory problems, eye irritation, rashes, and dizziness.

Update: The attorney general of Ohio dropped charges against NewsNation reporter Evan Lambert, whose arrest last week in East Palestine drew an outcry from the network and journalism groups as an infringement on his First Amendment rights.
“My office has reviewed the relevant video and documentary evidence, and is dismissing the charges against Evan Lambert as unsupported by sufficient evidence,” Attorney General Dave Yost said in a statement.
“While journalists could conceivably be subject to criminal charges for trespassing in some situations, this incident is not one of them. The reporter was lawfully present at a press conference called by the Governor of the state. His conduct was consistent with the purpose of the event and his role as a reporter.”
Lambert was charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespass, both misdemeanors.

The Republican Party “shit the bed so bad” on Tuesday night.
That’s how one longtime GOP strategist who worked on several high-profile 2022 races put it just hours after midnight. The operative wasn’t alone in his misery: A total of 16 Republican strategists, grassroots activists, Donald Trump confidants, and elected officials began venting to Rolling Stone Tuesday night (some completely unprompted) about the party’s disappointment midterm results. The general sentiment: The GOP had historically botched the midterms, had good reason to panic, and should feel humiliated.

San Francisco, Sep 10 (Ians) Intel has kicked off work on the new 20 billion semiconductor plant in the Ohio state in US, as President Joe Biden joined the chip-maker and Ohio Governor Mike DeWine to celebrate breaking ground in the “Silicon Heartland” on the world’s most advanced chipmaking facilities.
The chip plant is part of Intel’s plans to invest 100 billion in Ohio over the next 10 years.
“Today marks a pivotal moment in the journey to build a more geographically balanced and resilient semiconductor supply chain,” said, Pat Gelsinger, Intel CEO.
“The establishment of the Silicon Heartland is testament to the power of government incentives to unlock private investment, create thousands of high-paying jobs, and benefit U.S. economic and national security,” he said in a statement.
During the first phase, Intel is providing 17.7 million for eight proposals from leading institutions and collaborators in Ohio to develop semiconductor-focused education and workforce programmes.

Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday signed into law a bill that cuts the number of training hours that teachers, principals, and other school staff must complete in order to carry guns from about 700 hours to a mere 24.
Under the new legislation, school personnel will only have to complete four scenario-based training hours, in addition to 20 hours covering first aid, the history of school shootings, and how to ensure that students are reunited with their parents after a school emergency, The Columbus Dispatch reported.

The Ohio Supreme Court for the third time rejected Republicans’ state legislative maps after finding Wednesday that they unconstitutionally favor Republicans over Democrats.
The 4-3 ruling stated that the maps violated redistricting rules voters approved in 2015 as a state constitutional amendment. Specifically, the GOP-backed plan has 26 districts where Democrats are favored by 3 percentage points or less, according to Cleveland.com. In the most competitive Republican-leaning district, meanwhile, the GOP is favored by 5 percentage points. Additionally, only four districts favor Republicans by fewer than ten percentage points.

The Bishop Sycamore high school football scandal is one of the stranger sports stories of recent years.
The presumed high school football team from Columbus got whooped 58-0 by Img Academy and the game was televised by ESPN. However, the game turned out to be just the beginning of the story.
HBO Sports has now landed a documentary telling the tale.
The network has picked up the TV and streaming rights to a feature doc from Michael Strahan and Constance Schwartz-Morini’s Smac Entertainment, Adam McKay’s Hyperobject Industries, Boat Rocker’s Matador Content, and The Athletic.
The film, which will debut in 2022, will ask how the Bishop Sycamore Centurions were even playing the elite NFL feeder team after it emerged that the school isn’t even in Ohio. The coach Roy Johnson was subsequently fired and Gov. Mike DeWine called for an investigation.
The producers have scored exclusive access to Johnson.

Bishop Sycamore of Ohio came to national attention when it lost 58-0 to football power Img Academy of Bradenton, Fl. During the game, it was apparent that the Ohio school was badly outclassed, despite claiming that it had a roster full of top college prospects. Even the game’s broadcast announcers openly questioned the team’s credentials during the game.
It later came out that Bishop Sycamore was playing its second game in three days. Further investigation revealed the school’s listed address was an indoor sports facility, which a spokesman for the building said was a front for a client who would sometimes rent field time. It...

The Ncaa (National Collegiate Athletic Association) announced on Wednesday that it will play its upcoming championship events and tournaments without fans due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Ncaa president Mark Emmert revealed in a statement that based on his discussions with the Ncaa Board of Governors, public health officials and the Covid-19 advisory panel he has made the decision to conduct upcoming championship events, including the Division I men’s and women’s basketball tournaments “with only essential staff and limited family attendance.”
“While I understand how disappointing this is for all fans of our sports, my decision is based on the current understanding of how Covid-19 is progressing in the United States,” read Emmert’s statement. “This decision is in the best interest of public health, including that of coaches, administrators, fans and, most importantly, our student-athletes.”

Spend an hour watching Robin Meade and you might start to feel a little dizzy.
Meade, the long-standing Hln morning anchor, was holding forth earlier this week at 6 a.m. on “Morning Express,” the program that takes up the biggest part of the CNN-owned network’s schedule. She had to juggle the biggest stores of the morning – the impeachment proceedings and the Grammys that took place the night before -p while continuing to pivot back every few segments to covering another angle of the tragic death of Kobe Bryant. And she had to find time to make room for appearances by some of the show correspondents. Jennnifer Westhoven had a story about pharmacies in supermarkets being closed. Meteorologist Bob Van Dillen had “you are there” footage of being on the Outlaw Mountain Coaster in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Despite the news whirl, Meade is one of the most stable things...

CBS-Viacom: 20 Years Later, a Look Back at the High Hopes and Eventual Collapse of That First Merger
It’s been nearly 20 years since Viacom and CBS first announced their intent to merge, in a $35 billion deal that was billed at the time as the biggest ever in showbiz. When Viacom’s Sumner Redstone and then-cbs president and CEO Mel Karmazin revealed the plan at a Sept. 7, 1999, press conference, the combined Viacom/CBS empire was valued at $80 billion.
That original merger would ultimately only last five years, as Redstone moved to split Viacom and CBS back into separate companies in 2005 — keeping his oversight over both, of course. But in the early days of the merger, the outlook was rosy. Redstone called Viacom and CBS “natural partners.”
Redstone is now incapacitated, his empire in the hands of his daughter, Shari Redstone, who is guiding CBS and Viacom back together. But even at the time of the original merger, the question of the elder Redstone’s advanced age — he was 76 — was a topic of concern,...

John Oliver came in hot on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight recapping Donald Trump’s “busy” week which included the largest single-state Ice raid, retweeting conspiracy theories about the death of Jeffrey Epstein and his visit to the sites of last week’s mass shootings where there was footage of him at an El Paso bragging about one of his rally crowd sizes in the city and belittling Beto O’Rourke.
“We all know the struggles to do the bare minimum of being a president,” said Oliver. “But it still generally shocking just how much he struggles to the bare minimum as a f*cking person.” This quip led to a discussion about Trump, gun control and the NRA.
“Trump’s pathological lack of empathy should not distract us from the important question of what action if any, will be taken on guns,” Oliver asked.
