In 2118, the Japanese government has enforced a mandatory system known as Sibyl, which uses software to analyze the criminal tendencies and capability of the general public. When the chief inspector of the Criminal Investigation Department Akane (Kana Hanazawa) investigates the mysterious death of a professor, she finds research papers that could shake the existing system to the core. Along with some unexpected allies, Akane sets out in search of the truth — even if it means confronting life-threatening obstacles along the way.
Back in 2013, Psycho-pass was merely the latest anime series to gain public traction. Ten years later, a franchise comprised of episodes, films, and sub-series has created a long-standing fanbase that only wants more from its favourite characters. It makes sense then that the anime would mark its tenth anniversary...

Expressing solidarity with Hollywood actors on Day 1 of the SAG-AFTRA strike, specialty distributors polled were anxiously juggling opening weekend Q&As and movie premieres without talent. They were trying to clarify which actors on what international productions are SAG-AFTRA, bound by the guild, or neither. And, for those involved in production, trying to pin down the status of interim agreements for independent fare.
“I think we are all quite confused,” said one executive in the distribution space. “I’m trying to get SAG-AFTRA on the phone for a film we are opening in August. I have friends with films opening next Friday.” Individuals preferred not to be quoted given the sensitivity of the situation.
There’s much buzz around waivers, or interim agreements that SAG-AFTRA has said it will grant indie productions with zero studio/AMPTP ties. But there is still a lack of clarity around the application process and...

The official website for Yojiro Takita’s upcoming movie Insight Into the Universe has been updated with a new trailer.
Based on a historical novel by Tow Ubukata, the movie is set in the early Edo period and stars Junichi Okada an astronomer and Go player named Yasui Santetsu (later changed to Shibukawa Shunkai) who was instrumental in the creation of the Jokyo calendar. Yasui’s knowledge of astronomy led to the first major revision of the Japanese calendar in over 800 years, finally fixing inaccuracies which had been slowly increasing during that time.
The new trailer summarizes some of the troubles Okada’s character goes through while receiving constant support from his wife, played by Aoi Miyazaki. At the end of it, she says something to the effect of “Somehow… please don’t die before me.”
“Insight Into the Universe” will be released by Shochiku in Japan on September 15, 2012.

According to the Japanese movie site Cinema Today, a higher-up at Hayakawa Publishing has revealed that the company is currently entertaining Hollywood interest in a movie adaptation of Project Itoh’s 2007 debut science fiction novel Genocidal Organ (Gyakusatsu Kikan).
The story is set in a world where the war on terror has intensified drastically after a homemade nuclear device destroys Sarajevo. First-world governments attempt to crack down by increasing surveillance of the public as incidents of genocide keep increasing in the developing world.
The protagonist of the novel is an American intelligence agent named Clavis Shepherd who’s tracking John Paul, a mysterious man believed to be behind the chaos.
Itoh’s debut work received a lot of buzz and was ranked the #1 domestic sci-fi novel of the decade on the annual “Sf ga Yomitai” list. Unfortunately, Itoh died of cancer in 2009, shortly after his next sci-fi novel “Harmony” was published.
