It is time for all around love with the the first romantic release of 2016 – Loveshhuda. This young film starring the talented & dapper Girish Kumar with the stunning former Miss India, Navneet Dhillon is already finding some good anticipation coming its way.
“Clearly, the audience is in the mood to embrace love,” says a trade guru. “Girish & Navneet are a fresh new pair and their chemistry is undeniable. The premise of the film starting in bed is something very different and yet so real.
For the lovers of hardcore action, there is Ghayal Once Again coming in too on 5th February, the fact remains that audience has been happy to gather roses rather than the guns. In an uncanny coincidence, Loveshhuda and Ghayal Once Again were both scheduled to release on the 15th of Jan, after which the filmmakers of Loveshhuda decided to push the film to February in order to avoid a clash.

A love story that starts in bed!
Well, finally it seems that the youth of India would have a language of its own spoken right at the beginning of the New Year. Come January 2016 and an entire new vocabulary of love (!) could well be up for display, courtesy Loveshhuda, which is not into beating around the bush when it comes to letting the world know what its true content is all about.
The teaser has pretty much done the trick, what with a young couple getting up from the bed after a night of bliss, only to realize that they are complete strangers who just found each other exciting enough for a one night stand. So while the girl doesn’t display any of those ‘Oh my God what did I do’ look, the boy – with a sore eye – only ends up wondering if this has been a ‘Hangover’ moment for him.

There is something around Bollywood that continues to carry its old world charm. When a pair is in love, a visit around the trees is a must. Now that’s the kind of timeless romantic rendezvous Girish Kumar and Navneet Dhillon indulge in as well during the song ‘Mar Jaayen’ from their film Loveshhuda which has just been unveiled.
What catches one’s attention is the fact that the song has been unveiled well in advance, even though the film is around three months away (it releases on 15th January 2016). Now that’s different from the current trend when sometimes songs aren’t heard even when just a fortnight remains for the release. In that aspect, the makers (producer Vijay Galani, audio company Tips) have done well to introduce the music and the cast to the audience so that they get adequately familiarized with what is in store.

Girish Kumar, the son of the Tips' head honcho Kumar Taurani, made his film debut with Ramaiya Vastavaiya. While he may have been chasing heroines in reel life, in real life, this soft spoken man just bid adieu to his single status by marrying his girlfriend of eight years Krsna Mangwani. News reports state that the marriage was a low key affair and was done in the presence friends and family on February 11. Girish Kumar made his debut in Bollywood with the Shruti Haasan starrer Ramaiya Vastavaiya. He is also busy shooting yet another romantic film directed by ad filmmaker Vaibhav Mishra which marks the debut of former beauty queen Navneet Dhillon. From what we hear, Kumar Taurani is planning to celebrate the special moment in a lavish way after the release of Girish's next film wherein he will be throwing a big bash with all industry friends and collegues.

We at BollySpice are not just excited but inspired by John Travolta having attended the Iifa awards.
As the anticipation builds up on seeing the icon strut his stuff on a Bollywood screen very soon, we at BollySpice were suddenly struck by the thought:
How Cool would a Bollywood version of Travolta’s legendary musical Grease be?!
Grease (Director: Randal Kleiser; 1978) is perfect Bollywood material.
One summer, Danny meets Sandy.
Danny and Sandy fall in love.
As the summer break ends so does their love story as they part ways.
By fate, they end up at the same school but things are not so simple. Danny has a “cool dude” reputation to maintain and doesn’t let his true feelings show… for a while!
Grease is a romantic, feel good musical on love, friendship and coming of age.
Well, we just wouldn’t let a mesmerising thought like this be left to our imaginations…...

This hasn't happened for ages. However the makers of Ramaiya Vastavaiya have taken an experimental route. Almost three months after the release of the film, Kumar Taurani has gone ahead and released a specially crafted music video from the film. Titled 'Rang Jo Lagyo', the song features debutant Girish Kumar along with leading lady Shruti Haasan.Farthest that one can remember when a new video was unveiled after the film's release, it was 'Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai'...

Makers of Ramaiya Vastavaiya are a happy lot. The film has enjoyed a good weekend at the box office and even more importantly, the film's main lead, Girish Kumar, has been accepted. For a newcomer who came with a baggage of expectations, more so since he is also the son of film's producer Kumar Taurani, there was a lot riding on the film. As mentioned in the column last week, both Ramaiya Vastavaiya and D-Day were meant to be word of mouth affairs. This is how both the film found an audience in theatres. Though it wasn’t a flying start for either of the two films, they did settle down as the day progressed with good escalation coming in. Of course only Friday opening wasn’t enough for champagne to be uncorked but as the weekend progressed, collections started getting better.
Let’s talk about Ramaiya Vastavaiya first. The film is finding itself in a happy zone today, considering its opening weekend of 15 crores. Considering the fact that it is a debut film of lead Girish Kumar, this is the kind of number that does carry good weight to promise a decent week ahead. A love story for the family audience, it should hang on for a respectable total ahead. Also, the...

Yet another newcomer arrives in Bollywood this Friday with Girish Kumar making his debut with Ramaiya Vastavaiya. Scion of Taurani family which has been in the business of music and films for close to quarter of a century, Girish is the first one to step into acting, unlike his father Kumar Taurani and uncle Ramesh Taurani who are into production. As things stand today, this is the way it is going to stay for Girish in many more years to come at the least.
Since your family has been into production, ever thought of handing that aspect of filmmaking as well?
No, I am not a part of production at all. Even in Ramaiya Vastavaiya, I am in the capacity of only an actor. I don’t intend to change it for time to come at the least.

Mumbai, July 20: Actor Girish Kumar, who makes his Bollywood debut with "Ramaiya Vastavaiya", felt awkward when he saw the audience whistling for him at a theatre here.
"It feels weird that people are whistling for you. I'm happy that the audience is liking my work. I feel quite different, it doesn't seem like I am seeing myself on the screen, but some other actor. It feels like an out-of-body experience," the 23-year-old said here Friday at a theatre.
"Ramaiya Vastavaiya" is a remake of Prabhudheva's directorial debut, Telugu blockbuster "Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana". It released Friday.
The Hindi version too is helmed.

Mumbai, July 20: Actor Sonu Sood, who essays the role of Shruti Haasan's brother in "Ramaiya Vastavaiya", is amazed by the film's lead actor, debutant Girish Kumar's performance. He says there's a future star in him.
"The performance that he (Girish) has given...I would never expect it from a newcomer. This kind of performance comes only after 10 to 12 films...you become camera-friendly, in dubbing also your voice sounds good...," Sonu said here Friday.
"Girish has done it all in his first film itself. I think that's a beginning, you are going to see a superstar," added the 39-year-old.

Yet again Prabhu deva comes up this week with a South movie remake – his debut Telugu movie by the way – with Girish Kumar-Shruti Haasan starrer Ramaiya Vastavaiya. A rehash of Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which itself was inspired by Maine Pyaar Kiya, this rich boy-poor girl done to death saga has very little new to offer and comes off as a disappointing affair.
The story is extremely predictable – America returned Ram and gaon ki chori Sona meet at a wedding and after being at loggerheads for some time, fall in love with each other. Of course this does not go down well with lover boy’s parents who want him to get married to another rich girl selected by the mom. Film: Ramaiya Vastavaiya; Starring: Girish Kumar, Shruti Haasan, Vinod Khanna, Randhir Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon; Directed by Prabhudheva; Rating: ***
This is a world of cultural values that are gone with the wind. Almost. It takes a man of Prabhudheva's innocent insouciance to bring alive that almost-forgotten feeling of the good old fashioned commercial cinema where the rich throw bundles of bank notes into the faces of the poor to get anything done, and the poor live on farms in the back of the beyond where credit cards are yet to reach.
"Maine Pyar Kiya", anyone? Yes, Prabhudheva's film, designed to launch the producer's son in style, is a quaint homage to old-fashioned love. The film offers a colourful palate of visuals.

Bollywood is smiling again. After ‘Fukrey’ and ‘Raanjhanaa’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ is doing quite well too. Now ‘D-Day’ and ‘Ramaiya Vastavaiya’, two altogether distinct movies, are releasing this weekend and it is expected that the good run would continue.

Opening on Friday worldwide is Ramaiya Vastavaiya, a Hindi remake of Prabhu Deva’s directorial debut in the South, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which, interestingly, was inspired by the 1980s cult Hindi film Maine Pyaar Kiya. Prabhu Deva once again sits and dances in the director’s chair for the musical love story. The rom-com sees producer Kumar Taurani’s son Girish Kumar make his debut as a hero and he is joined by Shruti Haasan as the heroine, Sonu Sood, Randhir Kapoor, Vinod Khanna and Poonam Dhillion. The story is based on a young man Ram (Girish Kumar) who falls in love with Sona (Shruti Hassan) who lives on the fields of Punjab. He follows her to her farm, where her elder brother challenges him to produce more seed on their fields. If he wins, he will be allowed to marry her, so does their prem kahaani come true? Well you have to see the film!

You are producer Kumar Taurani’s son… Was acting always something you wanted to do?
Yes, absolutely. Acting was always something I wanted to do. As you said, my father is a producer and I grew up in this environment. When I finished school, I told my father that this is something I want to do. I was about twelve or thirteen and wasn’t taken seriously. However, I was serious about it and took some acting courses and action classes. My father saw that I was ready to put the effort in and told me that he will give me a launch in his home production.

For Prabhudheva as well, Ramaiya Vastavaiya would be an acid test, as it would be perhaps for the first time that he would be directing a movie which is not peppered with ample dozes of South Indian style of action that was catalyst in giving a new lease of life to the acting careers of Salman Khan through Wanted and to Akshay Kumar through Rowdy Rathore while Abcd was a film that had dance as the reference point, which is the forte of Prabhudheva. So along with Girish Kumar a...

Girish Kumar is just starting his career and making his debut as an actor with Ramaiya Vastavaiya. However one realisation that he has quickly managed to gain in his very first outing is the fact that he is a director’s actor.
“Though he has been trained as an actor, both in overseas as well as in India, Girish made sure that he followed his director,” informs a friend of the actor, “He felt that when there is someone as experienced as Prabhudheva on the sets, he learn from his experience and then improvise instead of trying to do something innovative on his own.”
This was evidenced much before Ramaiya Vastavaiya went on floors when under the guidance of Prabhudheva, Girish underwent several coaching and dance sessions in order to be fully prepared for his part. At his end, his dad Kumar Taurani had ensured that he gets the best...

Girish Kumar who makes his debut this year with Ramaiya Vastavaiya unlike most newcomers has decided to take the dare-devilish route and performed all the film's stunts on his own. While a certain stunt required him to jump off a cliff, the actor insisted on doing the scene himself, minus a body double. And while 200 odd mattresses were to be laid down as a safety precaution for the stunt, only 20 mattresses could be procured but that didn't deter the young actor. In fact Gi...

Mumbai, June 26: Girish Kumar, set to make his debut on Bollywood boulevard with "Ramaiya Vastavaiya", says nothing is more important than the viewers' reaction.
