The holidays can be a perilous time for many, as some remember the joys of the past year with family and loved ones, while others are forced to look back at a year of disappointments, both personal and professional. One thing that can make both holiday options better is either to celebrate or commiserate with friends. In the new BET+ exclusive holiday movie “Whatever It Takes,” five women bond over the good and bad in their lives during the holiday season. You can check out the film beginning on Thursday, Dec. 21. Horror is at its most affective when it takes real world situations and inserts the strange and unnatural into them. When that subtle little oddity stands out to the camera, suddenly nothing is safe and everything can be a danger. This is exactly why It Follows is one of the best horrors you’ll see this year.
When Jay (Maika Monroe) goes out on a date, everything seems fine until she finds herself tied to a chair and unable to move. As he tells her of a creature that is going to start following her, at first she doesn’t believe him, until she starts to notice its presence everywhere she goes. Often somebody she knows, or somebody odd enough to stand...

Over the last few months we have been spoilt for choice when it comes to interesting indie genre fare. The Guest, Predestination, The Babadook and Coherence all seem to have chimed with the very particular audiences they attract and David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows seems to be treading the same path. Debuting at Sundance last year, the film has built up a head of steam since and along with the aforementioned Babadook, it has been rather difficult to escape it on film related social media for the last little while. On the basis of the film itself, this is hard to understand.

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
African Cats – Samuel L. Jackson (Narration)
Deep Gold – Bebe Pham, Jaymee Ong, Michael Gleissner
Madea’s Big Happy Family – Tyler Perry, Loretta Devine, Bow Wow
Water for Elephants – Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz
Movie of the Week
Water for Elephants
The Stars: Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz
The Plot: A veterinary student (Pattinson) abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.
The Buzz: This period piece looks to be a well put together romantic drama. I enjoyed Pattinson’s general vibe in the trailer; thankfully a far cry from his brooding ham-bake of the Twilight films. Witherspoon is winsome, I typically love her in her more dramatic pieces — aside from the laborious Vanity Fair. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of on-screen magic this pair can conjure up. Happy to see Christolph Waltz again,...
