It’s official: Godzilla business is booming. Godzilla Minus One just won an Oscar, Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire is ruling the box office right now – and on top of that, there’s plenty more small-screen Godzilla goodness to come from the MonsterVerse in another season of Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters. The Apple TV+ drama, which streamed from the end of 2023, told a timeline-hopping tale of in-universe agency Monarch, which featured several appearances from Big G himself. Evidently, the show was a hit – because not only is there more Monarch on the way, but other connected series are being developed too.
For now, details are scarce – it’s unknown if the second season of Monarch will continue the story of the Randa family across the generations, or if it’ll drum up a new human cast. And while you’d expect more appearances from Godzilla, expect much speculation over the kaiju roster too.

The past decade has been a great one for MonsterVerse with movies like Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019), and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) making massive numbers at the box office. Moreover, Apple TV’s 2023 show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters has also been raking in big streaming numbers. However, a new update reveals that many MonsterVerse stories are yet to be told.

Apple is booking another stay at the Las Colinas Resort. “Acapulco,” the Spanish- and English-language comedy series starring Eugenio Derbez, is renewed for a 10-episode third season.
The news comes a month after the show’s Season 2 finale, which premiered on the streamer December 16. The show premiered in October 2021, with both seasons consisting of 10 episodes. Season 3 will again consist of 10 episodes, and is scheduled to begin production later this spring.
“We at 3Pas Studios are thankful to Apple TV+, the perfect home for ‘Acapulco,’ along with our production partner Lionsgate, filmmakers and cast and crew,” Derbez said in a statement. “We have always believed that the stories we tell about our communities and cultures can resonate with global audiences, so crank up the AC, it’s about to get a lot hotter at Las Colinas Resort.”

Tel Aviv-based Donna and Shula Productions and “Tehran” director Daniel Syrkin have set a joint venture, Danush Studios, to develop TV series for the global market, with an emphasis on the U.S. and Europe.
Donna and Shula Productions leaders Dana Eden and Shula Spiegel have shepherded two seasons of the espionage drama series “Tehran” with Syrkin. The series debuted in June 2020 on Israel’s Kan 11 broadcast network. Apple TV+ quickly picked up the show, making it the first non-English series to premiere on the platform. “Tehran” bowed on Apple TV+ in 2021 and the streaming giant partnered with Kan 11 on the production of a second season that premiered in May.
The spy drama revolves around a female Mossad agent, played by Niv Sultan, on a dangerous assignment. The series, which features Glenn Close in Season 2, went on to win the International Emmy Award for drama series last year.

Don’t let media consolidation, MoviePass drama or the President’s Twitter account distract you from one of the biggest stories in Hollywood this summer: the quiet moves Apple is making to do to movies and TV shows what it once did to cell phones.
The tech monolith has ordered almost 20 original shows, a stack of poached and pedigreed executives, A-list collaborators across genres and a reported plan to enter the Oscar race — all to set to start rolling out next year.
Last week saw a flurry of announcements for scripted series with powerhouse brands like Sesame Workshop. Oprah Winfrey also has an overall deal. Apple’s projects will inhabit what insiders predict will be a video platform in the vein of the company’s music streaming service.

It’s Prime time for NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke, who has been named head of Amazon Studios after a lengthy search process at the digital giant. Salke had long been rumored as a frontrunner for the gig, and became the leading choice after the other top contender, A+E Networks president/CEO Nancy Dubuc, dropped out of the running earlier this week.
Salke’s new job represents a huge leap for the executive, who will oversee both film and television at Amazon. She joins the company as it undergoes a shift in the kind of content it produces — moving away from smaller, more indie fare to broader, populist content.
Salke will report directly to Seattle-based Amazon senior vice president Jeff Blackburn, and fills the position that has been more or less vacant since Roy Price exited last year in the wake of a sexual harassment scandal.

Amazon Prime Video wants to be the Amazon of streaming services. As a retailer, Amazon is a giant. But as a TV programmer, Amazon has lagged in buzz and attention — which is why it’s in the midst of a programming overhaul, particularly on the scripted side.
That means moving out of the art house business and into the big tent — focusing on more big-budget, buzzy series that might better capture the attention of viewers, giving them a reason to keep their Prime membership, beyond that infamously free two-day shipping.
Shows like “Transparent” and “Mozart in the Jungle” gave Amazon critical acclaim and credibility inside Hollywood. Yet Amazon hasn’t yet morphed into a true competitor to streaming leader Netflix, as ratings for those shows and others have lagged. Like Netflix and Hulu, Amazon’s ratings aren’t readily available to the public — but anecdotal evidence, including reports by third-party measurement agencies,...

SVoD service is keen for smaller UK TV indies to pitch ideas.
Amazon Prime Video is opening its doors to smaller UK indies and “boutique” producers as part of the next stage of growth.
The SVoD service is keen for fledgling producers and filmmakers to pitch projects to sit alongside ideas from high-end, Hollywood-backed firms.
Head of international originals Morgan Wandell told Screen’s sister publication Broadcast: “We are very open. Sometimes, the most original voices and distinctive filmmakers come from boutiques or the independent film world. We love that kind of talent.”
Last month, the digital streaming service ordered Le Mans: Racing Is Everything from New Black Films.
The series, commissioned by head of unscripted Conrad Riggs, tells the story of the gruelling 24-hour race, which was founded in 1923.
The indie, run by Senna line producer Victoria Gregory and director James Erskine, is one of the first British producers to win a factual commission from Amazon...

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie’s relationship lacks the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children, leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River.
