Exclusive: Lionsgate Television has come on board the Irish-Belgian drama series co-production Northern Lights.
The North American studio will handle all global sales (except Ireland) for the series, which is set in Dublin and billed as a “compelling saga of grief, human connection and the power of hope and humor in the face of darkness and adversity.” It runs to six episodes and is for Irish national broadcaster TG4 and Belgian VoD service Streamz, in association with Screen Ireland.

Ruth Meehan's debut film is a feisty descendant of the likes of Calendar Girls, with its female strength-in-the-face-of-illness narrative that presents its similar themes of dealing with cancer while navigating friendship and loss, with a younger audience demographic in mind.
Gemma-Leah Devereux - who put in a small but notable performance as Liza Minelli in biopic Judy - brings complexity to the central character of Kate, a stand-up comedian who uses her life as a punchline for her gigs, gambles her depression medication with pals and has quite a lot of dark thoughts about death.
But Kate discovers wanting to die and suddenly being faced with the prospect are two very different things when an accident leads to a diagnosis of breast cancer and the looming challenge of a round of chemotherapy and surgery. With a wit so sharp she's in danger of cutting herself, Kate proves initially abrasive to the group of.

New projects by Vivarium director Lorcan Finnegan and Maudie filmmaker Aisling Walsh are among 27 chosen for the inaugural edition of The Voice, Screen Ireland’s development scheme for emerging and established directors.
Each director is eligible for up to €30,000 in funding across a maximum of two projects.

Screen Ireland unveiled its 2020 slate in Dublin today.
Apple Original Drama’s sci-fi series Foundation starring Chernobyl’s Jared Harris has started shooting at Limerick’s Troy Studies, making it the largest single production ever to film on location in Ireland.
The news was confirmed by Screen Ireland at the launch of its 2020 slate in Dublin today.
Foundation is adapted from Isaac Asimov’s novel series of the same name and is creating over 500 production jobs.
Valhalla, a Vikings spin-off for Netflix, is also set to go into production at Ashford Studios in Co Wicklow.

Martin MCCann was named Best Actor for 'Swansong - Story of Occi Byrn', while Amy Huberman was got Best Actress for 'Rewind.'
Pierce Brosnan and Saorise Ronan took home the supporting honours at the awards with Brosnan winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in 'The Ghost', while Ronan's part in The Way Back earned her the supporting actress honour.
