Last summer’s edition of Food Network Star was something of a collapsed soufflé — after a lot of time and effort, the end result (a win by the relentlessly inauthentic “Cowboy Lenny” in an otherwise dubious field of cooks) had me wondering if it was time to retire the recipe altogether.
Season 11, however, has felt like a trip to a Michelin-rated restaurant following a month locked inside a White Castle.

The Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons has taken home the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in four of the last five years (Two and a Half Men‘s Jon Cryer broke the streak in 2012). But like a planet too reliant on fossil fuels, we kinda think the race could use some fresh sources of energy this year.

Jamie Deen (above, left, in June with mom Paula Deen and brother Bobby) stopped by "Today" this week to promote his new cookbook and also give an update on how his mom is doing in the wake of her racism scandal.
"It's tough. You're in this business, people are going to take potshots at you. You accept that with the opportunities that it allows you," says Jamie. "But personal attacks on your mom is never an easy thing. We know who mom is, and people that know us and love us know, so you've just got to roll with the punches. I mean, what are you going to do?"
"She's doing really fantastic," Deen continues. "We've gotten tremendous love and support, and of course we would just do anything for mom. It's been an interesting summer for us, but we've been through challenges as a familiy before, and we're going to be fine.

Ex-Food Network star Paula Deen took a step toward career rehabilitation today with her first live public appearance since her June mea culpa media blitz. Despite the N-word scandal that axed her TV reign and ended multiple endorsement deals for Deen, 1,500 attendees were on hand at Saturday’s $95-per-ticket Metropolitan Cooking & Entertaining Show in Houston where she and sons Bobby and Jamie Deen put on a pair of cooking demos. The Southern cooking maven reportedly earned a standing ovation. “I’ve said all along that the one place I’d want to make my first step back out is Texas. Y’all’s hearts are as big as your state,” Deen said per The Houston Chronicle. The Deen showcase kicked off the first day of the annual cooking confab, where Deen and son Bobby are also slated to appear tomorrow. Last month Deen made a pre-taped cameo on Fox’s MasterChef.
