Passenger is a comedically inclined, yet dark and supernatural drama series that manages to succeed on all levels – which is no mean feat. To mark its launch, beginning on ITV on March 24 – we had the pleasure in speaking to both its creator, and three of its leading stars. Below you can watch our full interview with Wunmi Mosaku, Jo Hartley, Arian Nik & Andrew Buchan, as we discuss the tonality of the series, their karaoke songs – and drinking tea.

Warning: binge-watchers only. Contains major spoilers for ITV1’s Passenger.
As Passenger’s Riya (Wunmi Mosaku) says in her 40th birthday party speech at The Dog and Duck, life hasn’t gone quite as she’d hoped. Five years ago, Riya left her job and spacious city apartment to move in with her husband and his mother-in-law in the remote Lancashire town of Chadder Vale, where the most exciting crimes to investigate involve stolen wheelie bins. Her husband soon legged it to Spain with his mum Sue’s carer, leaving Riya alone in a tiny terraced house to look after Sue.
Sue Goodheart (Clare Burt) isn’t well. She’s paranoid and hallucinates, phones Riya roughly 20 times a day, and has to be administered specialist medication for her degenerative condition. But as the Passenger finale shows in the briefest of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments, there’s a very good reason for all that.

Twin Peaks. Sunnydale. Castle Rock. Hawkins… America’s TV monopoly on small towns where Weird Stuff Happens has gone on for too long. Britain was once home to The Wicker Man, Children of the Stones and The Prisoner, all classics of the ‘something’s not right here’ genre. Isn’t it about time the UK put a few creepy burgs back on the map?
Actor and debut screenwriter Andrew Buchan must think so, and his answer is ITV’s Passenger – a six-episode mystery series that’s Happy Valley meets…well, no spoilers here. Comedic and sinister with a terrific cast led by Loki’s Wunmi Mosaku, Passenger, from the producers of Gangs of London and Chernobyl, is a top binge-watch that’ll keep you entertained and guessing – hopefully into a second series and beyond.

Dennis Sullivan (Christopher Gorham) is a genuinely nice guy. He works for a firm of accountants and is assigned by his vaguely unpleasant and sinister boss to a key client, Katie Wells (Susan Misner). Mrs Wells has recently lost her husband and together with her young son is struggling to come to terms with her loss. Sullivan, through a sightly bizarre sequence of events, winds up foiling a shop robbery while dressed up as Man America, who happens to be the favourite hero of Mrs Wells son, Jake. Man America becomes a symbol of hope for New York City, while Sullivan tries to be a friend to Jake and a support to his mother.

As Jerry Maguire says towards the end of that rightly lauded film, “we live in a cynical world. A cynical world”. In a world that has recently given us superhero films disguised as Oscar-baiting crime epics (The Dark Knight) and knowing,...

Movie Synopsis: In the heart-warming family comedy Somebody’s Hero, Dennis Sullivan (Christopher Gorham, Covert Affairs, Ugly Betty), an average New York City accountant, goes unnoticed by his co-workers and boss who refer to him as ghost-like. When his boss assigns him to the account of a wealthy young widow Katie Wells, and her son Jake who’s fascinated with the TV superhero ‘Man-America’, Dennis takes an instant shine to the young boy and his mom. On his way home from their meeting he spies ‘The Imagination Superstore’, where he decides to try on the ‘Man-America’ uniform. But when he steps out of the dressing room he unexpectedly discovers an armed robbery in progress. He bravely takes on the thief and thwarts his efforts to rob the costume store. When security camera footage of the failed heist leaks it causes a media frenzy. Apparently like young Jake, the rest of...
