George Clooney rejected a British newspaper's apology after they wrote a story about his relationship with his future mother-in-law, Baria. Earlier this week, Daily Mail claimed that Amal Alamuddin's mother had been "telling half of Beirut" that she didn't think George was good enough for her lawyer daughter because he was not Druze, an Islamic sect that is big in Syria and Amal's native Lebanon. The report claimed that Baria and her family joked about the Druze custom of excommunicating and even physically harming men and women who marry outside of the Druze sect. However, George claims that the report is completely fabricated and also damaging to the health and safety of his fiancée's family. George wrote: "The Daily Mail has printed a completely fabricated story about my fiancée's mother opposing our marriage for religious reasons. It says Amal's mother has been telling 'half of Beirut' that she's against the wedding.

Earlier this month, the actor walked out of a dinner with Las Vegas hotel magnate Steve Wynn after, according to George, Steve called Potus the a-word. "Steve likes to go on rants . . . In the new documentary Tim’s Vermeer, Texas-based inventor and non-painter Tim Jenison attempts to prove that seventeenth century artist Dutch Johannes Vermeer used an optical device to craft his masterpieces by adopting that technique to painstakingly recreate Vermeer’s The Music Lesson. If that sounds like a snooze on paper, the film is anything but, partly thanks to Penn Jillette’s enthusiastic narration, and his magic-partner Teller’s assured direction. but mostly because of the possibility Jenison might actually drive himself insane attempting to complete his Herculean task. (EW’s Owen Gleiberman recently described the movie as “exquisitely fun” in his “A”-grade review.

Depending on where you stand on Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen represents either a group of enormously famous actors going back to salvage the goodwill they squandered in the middle entry of the franchise, or that same group of actors going back to where it all started just to prove they can still pull one over on us. If you’re bothered by even the mention of Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen may strike you as an unnecessary extension of a series that maybe should’ve been a one-film wonder, but it seems, at face value, to be a safer one, at that. After premiering last week at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone," a high-concept magician movie starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey, is now appearing (as if by magic!) nationwide. The story follows an aged performer (Carell) who ditches his partner (Steve Buscemi) and attempts to recapture his mojo while fending off the competition in the form of a swarthy "street magician" (Carrey) whose shtick is more "Jackass" than "The Prestige." But does the considerable comedic weight of Carrel, Buscemi, and Carrey (not to mention a stellar supporting cast that includes James Gandolfini, Alan Arkin, and Olivia Wilde) equal an amazing feat of cinematic magic, or is it more or less like seeing the fake finger a magician stuffs the handkerchief into? 1. As is the case every year, I start reading year-end lists posted by trusted peers/journalists and discover I've missed plenty of deserving culture. Anthony E. Zuiker is constantly asked, "How did the guy who drove a tram in the middle of the night at The Mirage go onto create 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation'?" It's a legitimate question, so Zuiker decided to answer it in his new book, "Mr. CSI: How A Vegas Dreamer Made A Killing In Hollywood, One Body At A Time."
Originally conceived as a self-help book, "Mr. CSI" soon morphed into Zuiker's personal tale of growing up as an only child abandoned by his father, and raised by his mother in Las Vegas. The book tells a story of a man, who through hard work and perseverance, became one of the most successful and celebrated creators and producers on television.
How did you come up with the idea for "CSI"?
I was watching a forensic docudrama called "The New Detectives," and in one episode they were featuring a case about a missing cheerleader.

Steve Wynn mocked his own wedding last Thursday in a faux ceremony where he dressed like the other king of Las Vegas. Steve -- dressed as Elvis: The Later Years -- and bride-to-be Andrea Hissom road-tested their nuptials at Cupid's Wedding Chapel in Vegas. The ceremony wasn't legal -- that will happen in grand fashion this weekend. Read more...

All-Star Band Swings for the Fences We’re still deep in the throes of winter here in the Midwest. Spring seems like an impossible dream. But for the members of The Baseball Project—major-league sports nerds from better-known bands Young Fresh Fellows, Dream Syndicate, R.E.M., and Golden Smog—Opening Day is just around the corner. Their second album, Vol. 2: High and Inside, picks up right where Vol. 1 left off, firing power chords like fastballs, and tossing in a few musical changeups to keep listeners off balance....

Donald Trump is proud to still have all his own hair. The host of "The Apprentice", who is renowned for his distinctive style, has revealed he ignores friends when they advise him to cut off his famous locks because his hair is such an important part of his identity.
In an interview on CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight", he said, "I think I am pretty vain. I am. I mean, I think the look is very important. It is my hair. I guess it is [the most famous hair in America]. I can tell you, somebody said why don't you just give yourself a crew cut or shave it or something?"
"So it is my hair. And I'll have friends, I had a friend come up to my office recently, I hadn't seen him since high school. He walks up to my office. He weighed 100 pounds too much. He was bald as a, you have no idea,...

Girls Gone Wild boss Joe Francis has run into trouble with the law again - his production company allegedly owes more than $113,000 (£75,000) to the U.S. government in unpaid taxes.
Authorities at America's Internal Revenue Service filed a $113,128 (£75,400) lien against the soft-core porn director's Mantra Films, the parent company of Girls Gone Wild, at the Los Angeles County Recorder of Deeds in November.
The demand is for delinquent federal taxes from 2003, according to The Detroit News.
The filmmaker's woes continue to mount - last week, he was indicted by a grand jury over the $2 million (£1.3 million) he allegedly owes to Las Vegas casino boss Steve Wynn, who has charged Francis with felony theft and fraud.

Although the origins of The Baseball Project date back almost 20 years between Scott McCaughey and Steve Wynn, it was not until 2007 that the band finally came to fruition. Apparently, their collaborative debut album Vol. 1: Frozen Ropes & Dying Quails turned out nicely enough to inspire a second volume of baseball-inspired rock songs with collaborators Linda Pitmon and Peter Buck. On March 1, The Baseball Project will open the 2011 season with their sophomore effort Volume 2: High and Inside on Yep Roc....

It was going to be tough for Steve Wynn to top 2008’s solo effort Crossing Dragon Bridge, a fascinating hodgepodge of baroque chamber-pop and psychedelic garage-rock mostly written and recorded in Slovenia. A gorgeously sophisticated collection that stood apart from anything else in Wynn’s discography, Dragon Bridge showed the former Dream Syndicate frontman could still make music with nuance and depth, qualities missing from the amped-up, energetic anthems on two previous records with The Miracle 3. Those who hoped Wynn would bring that inventive spirit and boldness back to his band for its third album will be disappointed ...

Paris Hilton is upset over the "cruel" rumors that have been floating around since she got arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas last week. The 29-year-old heiress wrote a message to fans on Twitter about her current legal mess: These rumors going around are so ridiculous, untrue and cruel. I'm not going to even pay attention to them, because I know the truth. Paris has been having some trouble since her drug bust on Friday. The former Simple Life reality star has been banned from Steve Wynn properties in Las Vegas and her boyfriend, nightlife executive Cy Waits, has reportedly been "separated"...

One night in with Paris Hilton proved to be disastrous one. Not only is her boyfriend Cy Waits facing repercussion from his boss Steve Wynn, but she's most likely banned from all Vegas club appearances. Now that Paris is facing felony charges for cocaine possession, Vegas nightclubs want nothing to do with the once sought after heiress. “No club located inside a casino is going to want to glamorized the fact that she's been allegedly caught with drugs three times in the last four months," a top Vegas nightlife executive tells Hollyscoop. Our source, who has booked Paris...

Tony Abou-Ganim. Courtesy of Tim Turner Photography.A sold-out gala tonight at the New York Public Library kicks off the first-ever Manhattan Cocktail Classic, a nearly weeklong event that will draw cocktail nerds, mixologists, spirit publicists, and barflys to the Big Apple to celebrate speakeasies, gin and tonics, spherical ice, er, cubes, and everything that can be imbibed. In anticipation of such an auspicious gathering in the city that redefined the cocktail industry—first with trendsetting speakeasies such as Milk and Honey and now with the mezcal revolution, under way at Mayahuel in the East Village—Vf.com went on a pub crawl with Tony Abou-Ganim, one of the top mixologists in the world. He's the creator of popular drinks such as the Cable Car, founder of the cocktail program at Steve Wynn's Bellagio Resorts in Las Vegas, and winner of the 2007 Iron Chef America competition with Mario Batali.

CBS has saved the Daytime Emmy Awards! And they're moving to Las Vegas!*
The network today announced that it's struck a deal with the National Academy of TV Arts and Sciences, as well as tiny little production company Ati, to bring the soap-centric Emmys back to a big broadcast network.
As predicted a few weeks ago by Broadcasting & Cable's Paige Albiniak, this year's event will take place at the decidedly unspectacular Las Vegas Hilton (what, Steve Wynn was asking too much for one of his hotels?) on Sunday, June 27. It will air live to the east coast from 9-11 p.m.

The day after Evan Lysacek defeated Yevgeny Plushenko in an Olympic cold war for figure skating gold, we noticed Dancing With the Stars' Cheryl Burke tweeting him the suggestion that he join the cast of the show. If you've been wondering if he's game, well..."I would love to try Dancing With the Stars," he told EW in an email Tuesday. "I was a proud audience member (and cheerleader) as my friends Kristi Yamaguchi and Apolo Ohno danced their way to the mirrorball trophy. All I have heard from everyone that has done the show is what a blast it is.
