Actress Dakota Johnson ("Madame Web") poses for the August 2022 issue of "Vanity Fair" magazine photographed by Ryan McGinley:
"I do not like stupid rules", said Johnson. "Like rules for rules' sake. Or people implementing rules because they're seeking power.
"To go out into the world, do hair and make-up and wear an outfit to look a certain way, it's super jarring. So to wear clothes in which I feel like myself is vital. I feel like Ok this is a version of me.
"I don't know if you've ever had this where you meet another woman and see parts of yourself in them...
"...that you didn't know you had before you'd met. It's almost like they turn up the dial on your life.
"For so long, I've acted in movies and, when it comes out, sometimes it's completely different.
"And that's really hard to grapple with as a person...

"Being free, to Dash, was everything." Utopia Media has debuted an official trailer for a documentary called Moments Like This Never Last, a profile of the New York artist Dash Snow. Directed by photographer Cheryl Dunn, this first premiered last year at Doc NYC and is getting a small theatrical release (in NY & LA) next month. Snow rejected a life of privilege to make his own way as an artist on the streets of downtown New York City in the late 1990s. Developing from a notorious graffiti tagger into an international art star, he documented his drug- and alcohol-fueled nights with the surrogate family he formed with friends and fellow artists Ryan McGinley and Dan Colen before his death by heroin overdose in 2009. Drawing from Snow's unforgettable body of work and involving archival footage, Cheryl Dunn's exceptional portrait captures his all-too-brief life of reckless excess and creativity. Also featuring artist Dan Colen,...

There’s a TikTok video of a young man with tousled dark hair wearing eyeliner and a sweatshirt, throwing a smoldering gaze to the camera as Ariana Grande’s “Positions” plays; the camera then cuts to the boy in a full-blown French maid costume — white cap, dainty gloves, apron, and all. In another video, a girl with short hair and a nose ring rests between the legs of her boyfriend in a French maid costume, his hairy legs peeking out beneath frilly white lace, which transitions into them switching positions and outfits.

Tim Sutton is a filmmaker with a distinct visual style, which he brings into the heart of the gun control debate with Dark Night, an entrancing, terrifying exploration of the moments before a horrible event. Following multiple characters living in a Florida town, Sutton paints an American portrait that feels doubly relevant following last year’s election and everything that’s come since. The Film Stage had an earnest conversation with the writer/director about the the business of indie film, how politics affect art and how one casts a film so it feels authentic to the story being told.
The Film Stage: When you jump into a project like this, what’s the research process like?
Tim Sutton: So, research-wise I really tried to limit myself. People have asked if I’ve talked to a lot of people in Aurora or in Denver, and I did not. The work is purely fiction,...

“I would be nowhere without the Internet,” the artist and filmmaker Petra Collins told IndieWire last week, after her short documentary, “Keep Sailing,” about the Atlanta rapper Lil’ Yachty premiered on The Fader, which produced the film.
Collins was drawn to Yachty as a fan of the music, but also because of their similar trajectories. “How he came up on the Internet and was really honest about that really drew me to him.”
Collins began taking photos at 15, and when she didn’t see a place for her work, founded the online women’s art collective “The Ardorous.” Her dreamy visual style and unapologetic images of female sexuality caught the eye of other young artists, and she began receiving submissions.
