With co-production an ever-popular resource for independents and emerging talent, the Madrid Film School (Ecam), hailed as one of the leading film schools in the world, has launched Ecam Forum, a new co-production initiative to run June 10 – 13 in Madrid.
An Open Call ending April 9 has been announced March 18 for submissions from local Spanish feature film projects in development or in post-production, and series projects in development.
Said Ecam director Gonzalo Salazar Simpson at a press conference in late Feb.: “I believe that the key to the Forum’s success will have to do with the presence of decision makers and international professionals. Prime Video is reviving classic Spanish talent gala format Operación Triunfo and has unveiled its latest slate of scripted shows, films and doc series from the nation along with a local version of Takeshi’s Castle.
The 12th season Operación Triunfo, which is filmed in front of a live audience, will stream on the SVoD in Spain and Latin America later this year.
A major ratings hit and cultural phenomenon, the first 11 seasons aired on Spanish public broadcaster Rtve and ran between 2001 and 2020.

Barcelona – Spanish production company Good Mood has initiated a co-operation agreement with Madrid’s Ecam Film School aimed at creating professional internships for university alumni.
Madrid-based Good Mood was founded by Daniel Écija, a veteran producer and showrunner behind more than 30 TV series including, when Ecija was a senior executive at Globomedia, recent titles such as the groundbreaking “Locked Up,” one of Spain’s biggest primetime hits “Red Eagle,” and supernatural cop thriller popular “I Am Alive.” He currently has upcoming series “The Fence” in production.
Produced by Good Mood and Atresmedia, “The Fence” is a dystopian fantasy set in 2045 Spain starring Ángela Molina (“Broken Embraces”) and her daughter Olivia Molina.
Two Ecam screenwriter alumni, Roberto Martín Maiztegui and Clara Botas –pictured, are working on the series as part of the Good Mood-Ecam agreement. Spanish director Inés París (“Miguel and William”) executive produces alongside Écija, David Molina and Sonia Martínez.

No Rest for the Wicked aka No Habra Paz Para Los Malvados is a Spanish language thriller, which has recently completed production. Filmax International is handling the distribution of No Rest for the Wicked and the film tells a story of a corrupt cop, wrongfully accused of a triple homicide.
