Last week, Christina Applegate was brought to tears when she was met with a standing ovation during the 2023 Emmy Awards.
Applegate, who revealed a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, walked on stage using a cane and was escorted to the podium by Anthony Anderson, the host of that night’s ceremony.
The actress thanked the audience for their continued support.
“Thank you so much! Oh my God! You’re totally shaming me [and my] disability by standing up,” she joked, prompting laughter from the attendees.
“But very few of you probably know me from that debut — I’m going to cry more than I’ve been crying — Baby Burt Grizzell “Days of Our Lives,” she said, referring to her first-ever screen credit in 1972.
“It was really a breakout role,” Applegate said, noting that it has “been an honor to play funny, flawed complex characters.”

It’s no secret that Christina Applegate is suffering these days. Her multiple sclerosis symptoms make everything difficult. As she told Vanity Fair in May, “With the disease of Ms, it’s never a good day. You just have little shitty days. People are like, ‘Well, why don’t you take more showers?’ Well, because getting in the shower is frightening. You can fall, you can slip, your legs can buckle. Especially because I have a glass shower. It’s frightening to me to get in there. There are just certain things that people take for granted in their lives that I took for granted. Going down the stairs, carrying things—you can’t do that anymore. It f-ing sucks. I can still drive my car short distances. I can bring up food to my kid. Up, never down.”
She continued, “Yeah, and gravity can just pull you down and take everything down with you.

Christina Applegate has another Emmy nomination under her belt. On July 12, the actor earned a lead actress in a comedy series nod for "Dead to Me" season three, marking her fourth time being recognized for the Netflix series and eighth Emmy nod during her decades-long career. Applegate reacted to the news on social media, tweeting, "Thank you to the @TelevisionAcad @netflix @CBS and also the Hollywood critics and of course @GoldDerby for this incredible honor. I am humbled and grateful. It's been quite a ride. Thanks for the lift."
Applegate's latest nomination is particularly gratifying and deserved. In 2021, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (Ms) while filming the final season of "Dead to Me." Despite dealing with painful physical symptoms and difficulty standing on set, the 51-year-old star pushed through and took one last bow as hot-headed real estate agent Jen Harding. Christina Applegate was very intentional about who stood at the podium last November when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Watching from the crowd with her husband and daughter at her side, Applegate heard remarks from her other family — “Married… With Children” co-stars Katey Sagal and David Faustino, and her “Dead to Me” support system, co-star Linda Cardellini and creator/writer Liz Feldman.
For Applegate, the foursome represents the full breadth of her 40-year career in Hollywood.
“There was no mistake as to who I asked to speak, kind of my beginning and my…,” she hesitates for the moment, editing her thoughts in real time, before she continues, “…my possible end. That was really important to me. It was about where I came from and where I landed.”

Christina Applegate just made an unforgettable appearance at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards on Feb. 26. Accompanied by her 12-year-old daughter, Sadie Grace LeNoble, the pair walked the red carpet hand-in-hand. Applegate is nominated for outstanding performance by a female actor in a comedy series for her role as Jen Harding on Netflix's "Dead to Me"'s third and final season.
Applegate will be taking a step back from the spotlight following the SAGs. In the midst of shooting the final season of the hit Netflix series “Dead to Me,” Christina Applegate fully embraced the unexpected circumstances of her acting journey when she got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her obvious connection to the role and the show that explores ways of dealing with life’s endless obstacles allowed the actress to shine brighter than ever. Applegate’s nuanced performance could very possibly (and deservedly) bring the Emmy winner her first SAG Awards victory after six losses.
The “Dead to Me” star’s competitors for Best TV Comedy Actress are SAG Award winners Jean Smart (“Hacks”) and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), as well as first-time nominees Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) and Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”). Applegate is currently ranked third in our combined odds behind Brunson and her “Samantha Who?” co-star, Smart, with 4/1 odds.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards race for TV comedy actress appears to be a close battle between red-hot rookie contender Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) and defending champ Jean Smart (“Hacks”), who are currently 1-2 in our combined odds. But if support is more evenly split between the two actors than we might be expecting, you shouldn’t be surprised if the person lurking in third place, “Dead to Me’s” Christina Applegate, nabs the coveted statuette on Sunday.
Despite not being the odds-on favorite, Smart, as the incumbent champ, is still the smartest (sorry) bet on paper. No one loves returning to the well more than the SAG Awards, in whose 28-year history there have been six instances of someone bagging at least two consecutive trophies in this category. The “Hacks” star has demonstrated continued strength following last year’s guild triumph, prevailing a second time for the HBO Max...

Teamwork makes the dream work, even when it's just two people, but sometimes that's the key.
There were many iconic pairs on TV in 2022; whether it'd be hunting a monster or trying to save someone in the operating room, there were many dynamic duos.
It may be the end of the year, but there is a lot more to come with these great pairs.
These TV dynamic duos caught the hearts of TV Fanatic writers for 2022!
John Winchester and Mary Campbell (The Winchesters)
John and Mary's relationship is inevitable, as fans of Supernatural know, but their story on The Winchesters is much bigger.
They are the definition of "opposites attract," as Mary is a hunter and John is a soldier, but it's why they work so well together.
Even though they've known each other for a short time, they still open up to each other like never before while also kicking monster butt.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Dead To Me series finale.] Dead To Me‘s final season ends on an intentionally ambiguous note. Creator Liz Feldman said the uncertainty the Covid-19 pandemic made us feel informed the plot when writing the Netflix dramedy’s final episodes, explaining that life rarely gives us answers to its greatest questions. It’s part of what makes grief a lifelong experience with all of its ebbs and flows. Grief and ambiguity are at the forefront of the Dead To Me series finale, which sees Jen Harding (Christina Applegate) and Judy Hale’s (Linda Cardellini) story end on a heartbreaking but fitting note. In Dead To Me Season 3, Judy is diagnosed with late-stage cervical cancer. She undergoes chemotherapy throughout the season as she and Jen try to tie up loose ends connecting them to Steve Wood’s (James Marsden) murder. Jen also learns she’s pregnant with Ben Wood’s (also Marsden) baby.

Dead to Me fans have shared an intriguing theory regarding Judy’s (Linda Cardellini) season three fate.
The third and final season of the Netflix dark comedy – released on 17 November – picks up right after the series two cliffhanger, which saw James Marsden’s Ben Wood drive off after t-boning love interest Jen Harding (Christina Applegate) and his twin brother’s ex-fiancée Judy Hale (Cardellini).
While Judy’s shown conscious and awake, Jen’s future is left ambiguous.
Warning, potential spoilers to follow
In season three’s debut episode, Judy rides along with Jen as the latter is rushed to the hospital and eventually wakes up in stable condition.
After the two undergo routine scans to ensure there’s no internal bleeding or broken bones, the doctor mistakes Jen for Judy and informs her that he’s found a potentially cancerous mass.
“Again, I’m so sorry, Miss Hale,” he says to Jen,...

“You don’t think every experience is the universe trying to teach us something?” a curious Judy Hale (Linda Cardellini) asks her best friend, cynical and straight-laced Jen Harding (Christina Applegate), in the final season of Netflix‘s Dead To Me. Jen’s response is one of reproach, but as I watched the episode, I found myself taken aback by the question. Before screeners hit my inbox over a month before the show’s public release, I had already been personally mourning the ending of this series the same way some people prepare to say goodbye to a person; despite working in the entertainment industry there have been very few shows that I’ve become attached to enough to watch every episode of, invest myself in, and feel connected to on more than just an enjoyment level. Dead To Me was one of those shows. After plowing through the first...

Aside from series creator Liz Feldman, no one could have predicted the end of Netflix‘s Dead To Me — except Linda Cardellini. “I knew last season that Liz was thinking about doing Judy’s storyline. I knew sort of what that was,” Cardellini tells TV Insider of her character Judy Hale’s ultimate fate: a diagnosis of stage four cervical cancer and the subsequent choice to live out the rest of her days on her own terms, following a spontaneous vacation to Mexico with Bff Jen Harding (Christina Applegate). Despite knowing how it all ended, however, Cardellini was still caught off guard at the way the storyline played out. “I knew that whatever she thought of would be surprising and emotional and funny but what I didn’t realize was how it would remind me so much of what grief feels like,” she says. “And that whole thing of when...

The final glass of wine has been poured and everyone’s darkest secrets have (almost) been revealed — after three seasons, Netflix‘s Dead To Me has reached its official end. Dead to Me is a dark comedy that’s worked as well as it has because of the effortless chemistry between its two leads, Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, as Jen Harding and Judy Hale. These two frazzled friends have accrued a growing list of felonies in each other’s name and the show’s third and final season practically drowns in all of the secrets and lies that are in motion. However, Dead to Me’s final year is also very much a season about forgiveness and the importance of closure. This touching, tragic comedy comes full-circle as its poignant story about grief helps Judy, Jen, and Ben all mourn different individuals in their own ways as they properly move on.

Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini and creator Liz Feldman are going to miss “Dead to Me”.
The third and final season of the much-loved show just hit Netflix, with the trio chatting to Variety about its legacy and what they’re going to miss about it in their only joint interview together.
Applegate and Cardellini play best friends Jen Harding and Judy Hale — two grieving women who form a close bond in therapy — in the show.
The latest season means a lot to the cast because at the start of production, back in August 2021, Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Applegate shares, “I’m not going to say that any of it was easy. I started having symptoms in January 2021 — very small, something you could just brush off. Right before we started shooting, it was as if I got hit by a truck and didn’t know what was going on.
The third and final season of the much-loved show just hit Netflix, with the trio chatting to Variety about its legacy and what they’re going to miss about it in their only joint interview together.

On “Sex and the City,” Carrie Bradshaw once wondered whether girlfriends are really our soul mates. The women of “Dead to Me” know the answer to that question is yes. When creator Liz Feldman first began writing it, the episodes were a way to cope with her own grief over the death of a good friend, process her fertility struggles (she and her wife had been trying to have a baby for years) and simply pay tribute to the friends she’d leaned on along the way.
In Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, she’s found two more lifelong friends. And the three of them had to fight to make this final season of “Dead to Me” — through Covid and through Applegate being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the start of production.
“Dead to Me” fans, and they are legion with this show, will finally get to see Season 3 on Netflix on Nov.

Christina Applegate will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week, and to mark the occasion she sat down with Variety for an extensive interview covering the past, present and uncertain future of her acting career in the wake of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis last year.
In addition, next week will also see the debut of the third and final season of Netflix comedy “Dead to Me”, a role that she describes as “a gift.”
Playing Jen Harding in the series, she admitted, could be the end of the line for her. That role, she mused, is “quite possibly the last one I’ll play. With my disease, I don’t know how capable I am.”

Christina Applegate is a child of Los Angeles, and one of her most salient memories of growing up here is of standing on the Hollywood Walk of Fame while waiting to go into a movie. In a recent interview, she recalls going to see “Star Wars,” which had a line that snaked around the block. “That’s where you went,” Applegate, 50, says of trekking to Hollywood’s movie theaters. “And you stood on those stars, and you thought: ‘Who are these people? Did they do something magical?’”
Over the course of Applegate’s career — she received her SAG card at age 5 in 1976, and in April 1987 “Married … With Children” launched her into stardom for 35 years and counting — she has indeed done myriad magical things. She’s received six Emmy nominations for acting, winning in 2003 for guest actress in a comedy series for her portrayal of Amy, Rachel’s (Jennifer Aniston) thoughtless,...

Break out the oversized wine glasses and put out the Mexican lasagna: after an over two-year hiatus, Netflix‘s Dead To Me is finally back for its third and final season this November and we’re about to embark on a wild last ride, judging by the newly-dropped trailer! Created by Liz Feldman, the hit dramedy stars Christina Applegate as Jen Harding and Linda Cardellini as Judy Hale, best friends who — thanks to a lot of trauma and secrets — become bonded for life after meeting at a grief support group. Season 2 ended with some big reveals that included Jen confessing to Steve Woods’ (James Marsden) murder and the two besties seemingly putting their pasts behind them after getting rid of Steve’s body for good by burying him in the depths of the Angelus Forest. But in the episode’s moments, everything was turned on its head when both friends became victims of a hit-and-run,...

The long-awaited, much-anticipated third season of Netflix’s Dead to Me finally released a teaser trailer, and it was well worth the wait. The trailer does a terrific job of reminding fans how much we all miss seeing Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini together on the screen.
The teaser trailer was accompanied by the first photo from the upcoming third – and unfortunately – final season. The photo features Applegate and Cardellini at what appears to be a funeral.
Season three also stars James Marsden. Series creator Liz Feldman, Christina Applegate, Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, and Jessica Elbaum serve as executive producers, with Linda Cardellini co-executive producing.
“From start to finish, Dead To Me is exactly the show I wanted to make. And it’s been an incredible gift,” stated Feldman, back in July 2020 when season three was announced. “Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an...

Netflix released a trailer for the third and final season of “Dead to Me” as part of its Tudum fan event, announcing that the series’ final episodes would be released on Nov. 17.
The series starring Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini and James Marsden has been on a two-year pause since its second season came out thanks to delays in production by both the Covid-19 pandemic and Applegate’s multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which she announced last year.
Now, the new trailer teases a pick-up right from where Season 2 left off, with Jen Harding and Judy Hale in their damaged SUV after getting hit by a drunk Ben Wood. Ben had discovered that Jen was lying about the whereabouts of his brother and Jen’s ex-fiance Steve, whom she murdered in a fit of rage at the end of Season 1.

All roads have led to this. Netflix has announced the Dead to Me Season 3 release date and dropped the first trailer for the suspenseful final season (watch it above). And the clips from the new episodes reveal Christina Applegate‘s Jen Harding survived the car crash from the last moments of Season 2. The final season of Dead to Me premieres Thursday, November 17 on Netflix. The trailer kicks off with flashbacks to the drama of seasons past, with shots of Jen, Linda Cardellini‘s Judy Hale, and James Marsden‘s Steve Wood in their deadly encounters from the first two seasons. Jen’s confession to Steve’s murder is shown, followed by Applegate narrating Jen’s goodbye letter to Judy. “I know you think that you’re the reason all our problems started, but they existed long before we met. And I am so glad that we met,” Jen says. “You...

Settle in with a glass of wine, because we have a lot to go over. On Sept. 24, Netflix released a teaser for the third and final season of Dead to Me, hitting the streamer Nov. 17, and we're finally getting some answers after season two's cliffhanger finale. Before we get to the events of season three, however, the teaser reminds us of the dramatic way season two ended—which is helpful because it's been over two years since the second season dropped. Christina Applegate, who plays Jen Harding, is seen in the recap bluntly admitting to her actions, telling Detective Ana Perez (Diana Maria Riva), "There's something I have to confess. I killed...
