GLAAD’s “Where We Are on TV” report for a second consecutive year forecasts an all-time high in the number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender and queer (Lgbtq) characters on TV, and for the first time ever was able to tally characters who identify as non-binary and asexual.
That said, there are still strides to be made when it comes to the diversity and perceived expendability of Lgbtq characters.
“The Lgbtq characters who make it to TV screens tend to be white gay men,” notes GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis, whereas Lgbtq women actually outnumber men and bisexuals in the U.

The Primetime Emmy Awards are getting a new production team. CBS and the Television Academy have tapped Tony Awards and “Kennedy Center Honors” producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner to oversee this year’s telecast.
Stephen Colbert is on tap to host this year’s show, which takes place on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. Et at the Microsoft Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Giving the show a serious infusion of fresh blood, it’s the first time as Emmy emcee for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” star, just as it’s the first time as Emmy telecast executive producers for Weiss and Kirshner.
Weiss has directed the Primetime Emmy Awards five times before, however, and will helm the show this year as well.
“We’re looking forward to seeing their unique and innovative approach to the telecast,” said Television Academy Chairman and CEO Hayma Washington. “Glenn’s exceptional direction of past Emmy Awards,...

As host of “The Apprentice,” one thing eluded Donald Trump: an Emmy. The fact that the Television Academy never awarded him one drove Trump — whom you might know is now the President of the United States of America — completely bonkers.
Trump wanted an Emmy bad enough that he went on the Hollywood campaign trail in 2008, taking trade newspaper reporters (including, um, this one) to lunch in an attempt to curry attention and grab a win for “The Apprentice.” But that was in the middle of “The Amazing Race’s” hot streak. Ultimately the closest Trump came to Emmy glory was singing the “Green Acres” theme with Megan Mullally on stage at the 2006 ceremony.
It’s a bit ironic, then, that Trump may play a hand in which shows are nominated — and ultimately win — this year’s Emmy for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.

I’m a cable TV user. I still like my cable. Call me lazy. Call me spoiled. I haven’t yet succumbed to being a cable cutter. I know that financially it makes sense but I just can’t bring myself to do it. But there’s one area of Cable TV that boggles my mind. Whenever a new movie comes out on cable you can “purchase” it i.e. rent it for a set amount of time. But the prices of these rentals are enormous. We’re talking over $10 in most cases and over $20 in others. Pay-per-view events are different (even though those

Annabelle 2 is set to come out later this year, and the good folks over at New Line Cinema are hoping to build on the following created by the first film, which was a spinoff from James Wan's very successful horror film The Conjuring. The Annabelle doll was introduced in that film, and she sparked enough interest to get her own flick. The first Annabelle made $257 million when it came out in 2014, on a budget of only $6.5 million.
Annabelle 2 is being directed by David F. Sandberg, who directed last summer's very well-received scary movie Lights Out. The film is set to star Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (upcoming “Ouija 2,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Foxcatcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony Lapaglia...

Captain America: Civil War and Deadpool are among the movies nominated for the People’s Choice Awards 2017.
As two of the most successful releases of the year – and not just in terms of the lucrative superhero genre – confirmation that Civil War and Tim Miller’s R-rated romp are up for awards shouldn’t be all that surprising. They both feature in the ‘favorite movie’ category, and will be competing against Finding Dory, Suicide Squad and the barnstorming Zootopia in two months’ time. Voting is open from today, November 15, and you’ll be able to cast your vote right up until December 15. Expect the winners to be officially announced at the Microsoft Theater on January 18.
Nominations are spread across 64 individual categories, and you’ll notice that Captain America: Civil War and its leading stars crop up on more than one occasion. The People’s Choice Awards 2017 also recognizes the very best...

NBC’s broadcast of the Summer Olympics’ closing ceremony on Sunday night drew 16.9 million total viewers and a 4.0 demo rating, ticking up from Saturday’s Rio lows yet down 45 and 57 percent from the end of the 2012 London games.

Why does it never fail to water our eyes when Vin Diesel honors Paul Walker? He did it again last night at the People's Choice Awards, when giving a lengthy acceptance speech for "Furious 7," which won two awards. Vin name dropped the late actor, whom he has called his brother, and at the end of the speech he sang a verse from the film's end song, "See You Again."
