Whether it’s a collision in an office elevator or a case of mistaken identities, fans of romantic comedies have a love-hate relationship with meet-cutes: The central couple must meet somehow and, since this is a love story, preferably they should do so in a cute way. But how many more white shirts must be killed in the name of clumsy-cute trip-and-falls while holding cups of coffee or orange juice?
For serialized romances, the challenge is even greater. Directors and writers must create interesting run-ins for characters to help sustain interest for longer than it takes for audiences to eat a bucket of popcorn.
“I feel like the bar now is, if you are expected to figure out a meet-cute, it has to be your new slightly subversive never-before-seen version of it,” says director Jay Karas. “I don’t think it’s a trope that we can totally get away from,...

The following post contains spoilers for the “Ted Lasso” Season 3 finale, “So Long, Farewell.”
If “Ted Lasso” has come to an end after three seasons, Emmy-winning star Hannah Waddingham is satisfied with how her character, AFC Richmond team owner Rebecca Welton, said goodbye to the Apple TV+ series.
In the Season 3 finale, Richmond coach Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) decides to leave the team to move back home to Kansas to be with his son. Rebecca tries to convince Ted to stay to no avail, so instead does the next best thing: she keeps the team but sells 49 percent of the organization’s stock shares back to the loyal fans. It completes an arc for Rebecca that started in Episode 10, “International Break,” when the Richmond team owner admonished her fellow owners for valuing their greed over the sport’s spectators.

This scene is so Epic! Rebecca’s Welton speech was so touching.

[This story contains spoilers for “So Long, Farewell,” the season three finale of Ted Lasso.]
For the record, Hannah Waddingham doesn’t know if Ted Lasso is definitively over either.
“I genuinely don’t know,” Waddingham told The Hollywood Reporter after the Apple TV+ hit’s third season finale debuted, playing very much like a series ender. “That’s what’s kind of unnerving about it, because I’m not ready to say goodbye to Rebecca, or any of them.”
Co-creators and executive producers Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly and Bill Lawrence have repeatedly said that they envisioned a three-season arc for Sudeikis’ title character, an American football coach hired to lead English football club AFC Richmond at the behest of team owner Rebecca Welton (Waddingham). The finale ends with Ted returning to the United States to be closer to his son and ex-wife, but also leaves openings for continuing the story in London.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 3 finale of Ted Lasso.
Apple’s hit comedy series Ted Lasso wrapped up its third season on Tuesday night and quite possibly the series as we’ve come to know it. But no matter what happens in the future, Hannah Waddingham is proud of all she accomplished as Rebecca Welton and how things ended for her character.
As we revealed in our recap, Ted (Jason Sudeikis) helps AFC Richmond win big against West Ham —mission complete. He moves forward with his plans to return to Kansas to reunite with his son Henry leaving Rebecca and most of the team in tears. But life goes on, as it does, and everything works out as it should.
In the final moments of the episode, Rebecca was departing the airport sad after saying goodbye to Ted when she spots a young girl running outside of the terminal.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers through Ted Lasso Season 3, Episode 6, “Sunflowers.”] Ted Lasso went international as AFC Richmond visited Amsterdam for a “friendly” match against the Dutch. While the game was low stakes and a loss for the Greyhounds, it was a possible win for owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), who may have cracked the code when it comes to her psychic mystery in Season 3. As fans will recall, after a session with her mother’s psychic, Rebecca was told she’d find love and become a mother, and it would involve a green matchbook, her being drenched, and upside down, but safe. Well, it would appear that some of these things came true when she met a Dutch man while walking the streets of Amsterdam. (Credit: Apple TV+) Although his name was never revealed, the “Stranger” played by Matteo van der Grijn called out to her from his houseboat, acknowledging her beauty. But the moment distracted her from ...

Warning: The following contains spoilers about Season 3, Episode 6 of Ted Lasso.
We need to talk about what happens in Amsterdam. More specifically, what happens to Rebecca in Amsterdam. Because after watching Wednesday’s Ted Lasso, we have some serious questions about what, exactly, went down between AFC Richmond’s owner and the Man With No Name (played by Dutch actor Matteo Van Der Grijn), and whether we should be skeeved out at all.

[This story contains spoilers for “Sunflowers,” the sixth episode of Ted Lasso’s third season.]
AFC Richmond has been in a funk since losing to West Ham two episodes back on Ted Lasso, with only a couple of draws to show for their work and a dispiriting slide down to the middle of the Premier League table.
Will a trip to the continent get things back on track? On the pitch, decidedly not — the team loses a friendly by the frightening score of 5-0 to Dutch power Ajax (one of Zava’s many former clubs, apparently; a photo in the stadium commemorates his tenure there, “2013-2013”). Afterward, though? Ted (Jason Sudeikis) declares a curfew-free night in Amsterdam for everyone, and what follows is reminiscent of season two’s (very good, no arguments considered) “Beard After Hours,” but following most of the principals (save Keeley, who jets off to see the Northern Lights with Jack early on and isn’t seen again).
It’s the show’s longest episode to date,...
