Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) is a fist-bumping, cocky, and beloved senior resident at Chastain Memorial. He know the ropes, he knows the rules and how to break them… he knows just about everything. And to Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal), one of the hospital’s baby-faced and optimistic new residents, it’s terrifying. While other residents seem to be rolling with the punches, Devon feels like he’s been put in the ring for a fight he can’t win. Then there’s Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood), a community hero — and Devon’s idol — who seemingly can do no wrong. But that might be because there’s a bit of a medical malpractice cover-up going on…
In The Resident, from creators Amy Holden Jones (Mystic Pizza), Hayley Schore (Call Jane), and Roshan Sethi (Call Jane), Devon learns the hard way what hospital life is really like.

The Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (you can read our review Here) is set to continue with a second season that will focus on Daryl’s good friend Carol, played by Melissa McBride – and because of that, the second season has the ridiculous (and ridiculously long) title of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol. Thanks to a SAG interim agreement, the show was able to make its way through production while the actors strike was still going on… and now that the strike is over, Deadline has revealed that McBride is joined in the cast of the show by Manish Dayal.
Dayal just wrapped up a six season run on the Fox TV series The Resident. Some of his other credits include The Hundred-Foot Journey, Viceroy House, Holidate, Halt and Catch Fire, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Last season, The Resident's renewal came down to the wire. The ratings are middle-of-the-road, and Fox no longer owns the series (since the studio was sold to Disney). As a result, the network doesn't make as much profit from the show and is shifting toward only airing shows they produce. Will The Resident be cancelled or renewed for season seven? Stay tuned. *Status Update Below.

"The Resident" season 6 ended its relatively short run back in January, but Fox waited a long time to weigh in on the fate of the long-running series. At long last, it has been confirmed that this is the end for Conrad Hawkins and the rest of the staff at Chastain Memorial Hospital. Yes, sad to say for fans of the show, it will not be returning for a seventh season, so the season 6 finale will ultimately serve as the series finale.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has officially canceled the medical show after six full seasons and 107 episodes. The series was produced by 20th Century Television and was created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi. It's worth pointing out that "The Resident" season 6 was the shortest in the show's history at just 13 episodes, and that may have, in hindsight, been a bit of writing on the wall.

The end could be on the horizon for The Resident.
According to TV Line, the medical drama does not stand a great chance of being picked up for a seventh season.
"It's essentially done," a source close to the show told the outlet.
In a word? Whoa.
Despite The Resident Season 6 closing with a finale that functioned as a series-ender, there was still a hope the show would be picked up.
While one person's account of the situation can be wrong, TV Line cites "multiple sources" in its report.
More concerning is that it seems many of the show's props are being sold, which is usually an indication that a project has wrapped.
Fox did tell the outlet that no decision has been made about the show's future, but the show's prognosis is grim.
The Resident Season 6 averaged 2.8 million viewers and a 0.34 rating among adults 18-49.

In one of the stranger coincidences of the 2022-23 TV season, two medical dramas said their goodbyes on Tuesday — New Amsterdam on NBC and The Resident on Fox. It was a series finale for the former; as much as creator/showrunner David Schulner and Executive Producer Peter Horton didn’t think their five-year-old series should be canceled, they had enough time to plan a hopeful ending for the Ryan Eggold starrer.
After six seasons on Fox, The Resident hasn’t been canceled … yet. But Tuesday’s finale dubbed “All Hands On Deck” had all the makings of a final farewell. Dr. Conrad Hawkins (Matt Czuchry) got his happy ending by declaring his love for Dr. Billie Sutton (Jessica Lucas). Dr. Ian Sullivan (Andrew McCarthy) came clean about his drug addiction and got to keep his job at Chastain Memorial after saving young Sammie, the granddaughter of Dr. Bell (Bruce Greenwood...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 finale, “All Hands on Deck.”] If this is how The Resident goes out, it does so on a happy note. Among the highlights: Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Billie (Jessica Lucas) say, “I love you.” The doctors save Bell’s (Bruce Greenwood) granddaughter Sammie and Governor Betz (Steven Culp) — and, therefore, the hospital (thanks to their deal). Bell is entering Devon’s (Manish Dayal) Ms trial. Devon proposes to Leela (Anuja Joshi), who becomes an attending. Showrunner Andrew Chapman explains why that felt like a series finale and shares what we could see if Season 7 is picked up. What can you say about a Season 7? Andrew Chapman: Fingers crossed. We just don’t know. I don’t think that Fox knows. I don’t think anybody really knows. They hold out the possibility, but they won’t pick us up yet. We probably won’t know until April or May.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 12, “All the Wiser.”] “You can’t be serious,” Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) says upon seeing the report that Governor Betez’s (Steven Culp) helicopter crashed blocks from Chastain. Governor Mark Betz (Steven Culp) is probably going to wish he’d been a lot nicer to Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves), Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood), and Chastain in the penultimate episode of The Resident Season 6. As you can see in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of January 10’s “All the Wiser,” he ends up a patient in the ER. Devon (Manish Dayal) and Feldman (Tasso Feldman) are the first doctors to start meeting the patients of a helicopter crash. Cade (Kaley Ronayne) and James (Ian Anthony Dale), then Conrad (Matt Czuchry) and Billie (Jessica Lucas) arrive to help — they’ll need everyone — but Feldman has one of the best lines of the season when he remarks, “it’s like musical chairs around here.” After all, until the previous episode, Conrad, Cade, Billie, and James were together. Conrad and Devon meet the next ambulance, carrying the pilot, and...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Resident Season 6 Episode 9, “No Pressure No Diamonds.”] Unfortunately, Dr. Kit Voss (Jane Leeves) didn’t scare off Governor Betz (Steven Culp), and he’s just making things worse for Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) on The Resident. His latest move, following that lawsuit, was an article with the headline “Dangerous Doctor at Chastain.” That comes just as Bell is set to perform a risky surgery on one of Dr. Devon Pravesh’s (Manish Dayal) patients: the implantation of a titanium rib cage. What’s more: a documentary crew is going to film it. It’s not only good for the partnership Devon, through his clinical trials, is getting going with a robotics company (that made the ribs), but it would be good publicity for Chastain as well — at a time that it could use it with Betz slashing its budget. The hour was pure perfection.
To celebrate a milestone in 100 episodes of the series, The Resident Season 6 Episode 6 did a tremendous job of marking the occasion with the long-awaited wedding for Kit and Bell and a beautiful display of these characters we love and adore simply doing what they do best.
From the heartrending and emotional medical case with Max and Tracy to the family feels of the gang coming together to celebrate Kitbell to the recognition of Bell's growth -- cleverly juxtaposed with Ian Sullivan's continued descent, the hour felt like appreciation for the fans who have tuned in for six seasons.
It wasn't a shadow of a doubt that we'd get our happy wedding ceremony with Kit and Bell, but it wouldn't be The Resident if it weren't dramatic and kept us on edge until the blissful payoff in those final moments.

Ian reached an all-time low!
Ian's addiction was front and center on The Resident Season 6 Episode 4, and it was shocking how far he went to keep his issues under wraps and how it impacted Cade. The hour also saw Devon being a great doctor and Conrad and Gigi spending some quality time together.
Join Carissa Pavlica, Leora W., Laura Nowak, and Meaghan Frey as they discuss the hour.
How much did you enjoy watching Conrad and Gigi spend quality time together?
Carissa: It was wonderful. Matt Czuchry seems to love those scenes as much as we love watching them. A terrific little actress portrays Gigi, and they really come across as father and daughter. They're a shining light in this series.
Leora W: I found it adorable, of course. However, I am curious about its place in the episode. It seemed completely separate from everything else in the episode,...

As Conrad says, “Fixing things is supposed to be my job.” Well, he and the rest of the staff need to step up in the Season 6 premiere when “the unthinkable happens to one of their own,” the promo teases. Padma collapses, and as she hopes, “Please don’t let there be anything wrong,” once she’s in the hospital, with her twin Leela (Anuja Joshi) at her side and Dr. Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal) looking worried, she must be rushed to the Or. “Please save my babies,” she begs. “We need to get in there right away,” Dr. Randolph Bell (Bruce Greenwood) says,...

Dr. Ian Sullivan is sticking around at Chastain Memorial Hospital.
Deadline reported Monday that Andrew McCarthy has been promoted to series regular for The Resident Season 6.
“His groundbreaking surgeries rescue the most vulnerable patients and make him key to the hospital’s financial stability," Deadline shared of Ian's arc on The Resident Season 6.
"But as Ian’s demons emerge, both his daughter, Dr. Cade Sullivan (Kaley Ronayne) and our doctors face a dilemma."
"Where do you draw the line with a doctor whose own life is spiraling dangerously out of control, even as the keeps saving lives?”
McCarthy debuted at the end of The Resident Season 5, and a promotion to series regular status was on the table since he joined the cast.
His first big storyline involved him showing up at the hospital to save his daughter after she was shot.
He collapsed and later learned that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
