Night two of the Creative Arts Emmys got underway at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
Night one saw “The Last of Us” dominate the night with eight wins. “The White Lotus” and “The Bear” won four apiece, with “Beef” going home with three.
The evening focused on competition, unscripted and documentary programs. Hulu’s “Welcome to Wrexham” dominated the evening with five wins. “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” took home four Emmys.
Stephanie Filo made history as the first editor to be nominated in a single year for three different shows and the first Black female editor to be nominated three times in a single year. She won the Emmy for picture editing for variety programming for HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” alongside fellow editors Malinda Zehner Guerra and Taylor Joy Mason.

Jake Johnson’s survival comedy “Self Reliance” will play on the big screen for one day before it lands on Hulu.
Neon is releasing the film in 225 North American theaters on Jan. 3 in partnership with the cinema chain AMC Theatres. During the one-night stunt, audiences will be treated to 10 extra minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and a discussion with Johnson and his “New Girl” co-star Lamorne Morris.
“Self Reliance” will begin streaming on Hulu on Jan 12.
Johnson wrote and directed the movie in addition to starring as Tommy, a man who is offered $1 million to play a game in which he must outwit hunters as they attempt to kill him. He thinks he has found the perfect loophole because he can only be attacked when he’s alone. The only problem is that none of his friends or family want to keep him company because they don’t believe the game is real.

Emmy winner Tim Robinson is back for more cringe, bizarre and surreal antics, with the trailer for "I Think You Should Leave" season 3 giving us a peek at the myriad sketches and the guest stars that will be part of the third six-episode batch of the Netflix series. And it carries the same weird energy that we've come to expect from Robinson's sketch comedy series. The series has become something akin to a cultural phenomenon, full of endlessly quotable lines that work their way into people's everyday vocabulary. Which means the new season will provide viewers with even more lines to quote out of context.
Once again, Robinson and fellow "I Think You Should Leave" creator Zach Kanin is taking the lead on writing. Back when the show was renewed for a third season last May, Netflix said the duo would "bring their distinct comedy style and observational humor to the forefront,...

Jake Johnson describes his new film “Self Reliance,” which he wrote and directed, as “‘Jacob’s Ladder’ with some laughs.” The film is a comedy with real stakes: Johnson stars as a man who winds up in a game where he’s trying to win a million dollars while hunters try to kill him. The twist is he discovers that the hunters can only attack him when he’s alone. But when none of his friends or family believe the game is real, Johnson’s character must figure out how to survive on his own.
There are scary moments, but more often it’s also really funny. And the audience screening it on Saturday night at the South by Southwest festival in Austin rocked the Paramount Theatre with big laughs throughout the film’s tight 85 minutes.
“I love ‘Jacob’s Ladder.’ I love it so much. I do get some laughs,” Johnson said after the screening.

Andy Samberg and Jean Smart have teamed up for a unique May-December romantic comedy titled 42.6 Years, which is in development at Amazon Studios.
Craig Gillespie, the filmmaker behind Cruella and I, Tonya, is on board to direct the feature.
Samberg came up with the original idea and co-wrote the story with Seth Reiss, a writer on Late Night With Seth Meyers who is coming off a WGA Award nomination for The Menu. Reiss then wrote the script, which landed on the 2022 Black List.
The story centers on a young man (Samberg) who, in order to save his life, undergoes an experimental procedure in which he’s cryogenically frozen. Tim Robinson’s beloved sketch comedy show “I Think You Should Leave” has been renewed for Season 3 at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.
Cast member Sam Richardson told Variety that the team was in the process of writing the third season in early March. It is unclear when Season 3 will debut, as well as how many episodes it will contain. If one thing’s for sure, there will be more memes (and hopefully more hot dogs).
“I’m not sure when they’ll start filming,” said Richardson, who appeared in both seasons of the Netflix show. “But there are funny sketches coming already, I can tell you that much.”

Irony Point might not have wide name recognition just yet, but its projects, which include Netflix’s WGA Award-winning “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” and Marvel’s new scripted “Squirrel Girl” podcast, are attracting the attention of high-profile backers.
The banner, now almost 12 months into a three-year overall deal with Netflix, is headed by co-presidents Alex Bach and Daniel Powell. Their little company also has partnered with Endeavor Content and Broadway Video on recent projects.
Endeavor Content, Irony Point’s collaborator on Hulu dramedy “Life & Beth,” is a “behemoth” operating “in a budget space that we’ve previously not even come close to,” Powell tells Variety. “Being partners with them as the studio really allowed us to have our first experience in what I’d say is a different league, but one that we hope to continue in.”

Exclusive….Developing…We’re hearing that Paramount Players creative executives Matt Dines and Ali Bell are departing the label that they arrived to in late August 2017. While these two key execs are leaving, the Paramount Players will remain in operation under the oversight of Paramount Motion Pictures Group president Wyck Godfrey.
Word is that Dines is heading to Jonah Hill’s production company and will become a producing partner there. Hill recently produced Richard Jewell; executive produced and starred in the Netflix limited series Maniac; and directed, wrote and produced the 2018 A24 movie Mid90s. At the same time, I understand Bell is heading to Andy Samberg’s label Party Over Here.
While at Paramount Players, Dines worked on such features as Nobody’s Fool and Playing With Fire. Bell during her tenure oversaw What Men Want, Dora and the Lost City of Gold and the upcoming Monster Problems which has a February 12, 2021 release date.

One of YouTube’s biggest trends is hitting the big screen. An upcoming film called Unboxing -- which was just acquired by Paramount Players (a division of Paramount Pictures that focuses on contemporary properties) and is set to be produced by kid-friendly entertainment company Pocket.watch -- follows an 11-year-old YouTuber who unpackages her father’s secret safe for her channel, inadvertently unleashing chaos on her town.
Ice Age: The Meltdown writer Jim Hecht penned the script, and his uncle, Albie Hecht -- a former Nickelodeon and Hln exec and currently Pocket.watch’s chief creative officer -- is producing, Deadline reports. Pocket.watch CEO Chris M. Williams is executive producing, and Ali Bell is overseeing the project for Paramount.
For those not in the know, ‘unboxing’ videos on YouTube involve vloggers opening everything on camera from monthly subscription boxes to mystery packages they bought off eBay to online shopping hauls.
