Charlie Brooker, creator of anthology drama Black Mirror, has been travelling down a dystopian wormhole since 2011. However, Brooker, who spent years as a Guardian newspaper columnist, calling out the likes of former British Prime Minister David Cameron as a “pitiless blank-eyed hell-wraith,” has found a somewhat lighter tone in Season 4 of the tech-driven Netflix drama. Droughtlander begins with the airing of the Season 2 finale, “Dragonfly in Amber.” Somehow millions of fans around the world must satisfy their continuing hunger for the Starz adaptation of author Diana Gabaldon’s book series that started with Outlander, first published way back in 1991.
Centering on the love story between 20th century Royal Army nurse Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and 18th century Scottish Highlander James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser, it encompassed the lead-up and beginning of the 1745 Jacobite Rising which climaxed in the final defeat of the Stewart claim to the British throne at Culloden Moor and the end of the Highland clan culture.

With the UK Parliament back in session, Polish-American model Joanna Krupa took time out of her flying London visit this week to pose bodypainted as a tiger outside Westminster in order to put pressure on the government to introduce a long-overdue bill banning the use of wild animals in travelling circuses.
Joanna Krupa Calls for Ban on Animal Circuses
“I’ve always loved and respected the importance the UK places on protecting animals – which is why I was so surprised to learn that wild-animal circuses are still allowed to tour in England and Wales,” says Krupa. “No animal should be forced to perform tricks for entertainment, and it’s time the British government put an end to this cruelty.”
Former Prime Minister David Cameron promised to put a stop to these archaic animal acts by January 2015 but failed to do so, even though 94 per cent of respondents to a government...

2017-08-30T06:43:05-07:00Why Is Fox News Off the Air in the UK?
Fox News is hot in America, but in the UK it's struggled to build an audience. British regulators are also a little tougher than American watchdogs, it turns out, when it comes to fake news and political bias. All of that has led the network to stop operating in the UK, a major blow to Rupert Murdoch's media empire.
Via The Hollywood Reporter.
With 21st Century Fox pulling the plug on Fox News in the U.K., where pay TV giant Sky had been carrying its U.S. version for over a decade, on Tuesday, the network once again made headlines.
It was a familiar sight as analysts said Fox News in recent years often attracted attention from media and critics of the Murdoch family, which controls Fox, in Britain despite its...

The Queen is expected to earn $61.38 million next year, which would be a $3.7 million increase from this year, according to figures released by the palace this week. The monarch's salary - also known as the Sovereign Grant - is tied to the total earnings of the Crown Estate. Typically, the Queen is given 5 percent of its total profit from the previous two fiscal years. But in the wake of Brexit, the Queen's taxpayer-funded pay raise may be affected.

[Update: “Game of Thrones” producers have told Entertainment Weekly that the Brexit vote will not affect production on the HBO series.]
Brexit has already brought crashing markets and Prime Minister David Cameron’s resignation. It’s reasonable to believe that the financing and production of the biggest TV and film productions could soon follow suit. Here’s a breakdown of the major categories that could feel the impact.
Large Hollywood Productions
The Star Wars franchise is one of many blockbusters that shoots at Pinewood, a top-notch UK soundstage. “Game of Thrones” makes great use of the green field of Northern Ireland. “Outlander” creates it’s magical universe in Scottish castles and countrysides. All told, Hollywood sends 10%-12% of its productions — and billions of dollars — to the UK.
Hollywood is attracted to shoot in the U.K. because of tax incentives which save 25% on up to 80% of total production costs. These rebates are now in jeopardy due to Brexit. It is possible that the British government could decide to continue these incentives on their own.
