Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre’s children Nina Maria Felicia Bernstein, Jamie Bernstein and Alexander Bernstein are opening up about how much their mother knew about their father’s bisexuality.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Bradley Cooper and correspondent Mo Rocca sat down with the three kids to discuss Netflix’s upcoming film Maestro, which Cooper starred in, directed and co-wrote with Josh Singer.
“Our mom was the most elegant, delicious person,” Nina said. Jamie added, “She knew exactly what the deal was.” Alexander chimed in, “They, obviously, loved each other to death. They never fought in front of us. We never saw any darkness. We felt a lot. They kept everything very well tidied and pretty well hidden.”
The segment explained that while Bernstein and Montealeagre truly loved each other, their relationship was complicated by the fact that the legendary composer had affairs with men over the course of their marriage.

Let the music pull on your heartstrings and allow you to get overcome with emotion as Netflix releases the new trailer for Bradley Cooper’s new directorial effort, Maestro. Not only is this Cooper’s sophomore outing as a director, it’s also his second venture into the world of music and the artists behind it. In addition to directing, Cooper co-wrote the script with Josh Singer. Singer spoke of the film via Netflix’s Tudum, “I think people will see the complexity of marriage and the many forms love can take. I think those are both powerful themes.” The teaser debuted in August, and Cooper faced a bit of a backlash due to his prosthetic nose for the character drawing controversy.
The synopsis of the plot reads,

Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan bring Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre to life in the first official trailer for “Maestro,” premiering in limited theaters on Nov. 22 and arriving on Netflix Dec. 20.
In the trailer, Cooper and Mulligan travel through time as the couple experiences love, betrayal and music. The movie encompasses Bernstein’s professional life but glosses over his commercial achievements in favor of focusing on his complicated relationship with Montealegre.
“If summer doesn’t sing in you then nothing sings in you,” Cooper says at the beginning of the trailer as an old man, gently playing the piano. Later on in the trailer, but depicting the young couple decades before, Mulligan finishes the sentence: “And if nothing sings in you, then you can’t make music.”

The latest trailer for Netflix’s upcoming biopic Maestro reveals the personal costs of being in the orbit of one of the greatest American composers and conductors.
Directed, co-written by and starring Bradley Cooper, the biopic traces the life and work of Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) amid his great and complicated love affair with wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, portrayed by Carey Mulligan. “One can be as free as one likes without guilt or confession,” Mulligan’s Felicia says to Cooper’s Leonard. “Please, I know exactly who you are.”
But the heart of the composer of Broadway’s West Side Story and the first American-born-and-trained music director of the New York Philharmonic was as complex as the mind of the arrangements, the new two-minute trailer reveals. “There’s a price for being in my brother’s orbit, you know that,” Sarah Silverman’s Shirley Bernstein tells Felicia.

The makeup artist behind Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein movie Maestro has said he didn’t expect the backlash to the film’s prosthetic nose, which has been criticised by some as an example of ‘jewface’.
Speaking at the Venice Film Festival press conference for the film, Kazu Hiro was asked about the social media backlash: “I wasn’t expecting it to happen. I feel sorry if I hurt some people’s feeling. I wanted to portray Lenny as real as possible. He’s photogenic and a great person, we wanted to respect and love that look. We did several different tests. That was our [only] intention.”
The movie has been the subject of some controversy in recent weeks due to Cooper — who is not Jewish — using prosthetics to enlarge his nose to capture Jewish composer. Bernstein’s family has defended the actor-director.

Awards season is over the horizon, and while films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon are going to be big releases for Apple Originals, Netflix will be throwing its hat into the fray with Bradley Cooper’s new drama, Maestro. Cooper, who has already gained acclaim as a writer and director with his Academy Award-nominated remake of A Star is Born from 2018, returns in the trifecta duty of writing, directing, and starring in Maestro alongside Carey Mulligan, whose credits include The Great Gatsby and had garnered positive reviews for her performance in Promising Young Woman. Bradley Cooper is striking a new chord as Leonard Bernstein in “Maestro.”
The Netflix film marks Cooper’s return to directing after Oscar-winning 2018 film “A Star Is Born.” Cooper stars as legendary composer Bernstein. Cooper also produces, and he co-wrote the film with “Spotlight” Oscar-winning screenwriter Josh Singer.
The film, which is being billed as decidedly not a biopic, centers on the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre, portrayed by Carey Mulligan. Bernstein married the Costa Rica-born actress and activist in 1951, and they stayed together until she died in 1978 even as he had affairs with men and lived a gay life otherwise.
And “Maestro” may turn out to be Felicia’s story, as Mulligan gets first billing in the trailer. The film’s first poster (below) only features Mulligan, facing away from the frame.

Bradley Cooper portrays legendary conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein opposite Carey Mulligan as actress and activist Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein in the first trailer for the Netflix film Maestro.
Cooper directed and co-wrote the movie that hits select theaters Nov. 22 before debuting on the streamer Dec. 20. Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Michael Urie, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton and Miriam Shor round out the cast for the feature that counts Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg as producers.
The trailer introduces the married couple in their younger years, where they are seated back-to-back and playing an apparent game in which Bernstein (Cooper) has to guess which number Montealegre Cohn Bernstein (Mulligan) has selected. After a number of erroneous picks, Bernstein asks, “So how long do we have to do this for?” This leads Montealegre Cohn Bernstein to lightheartedly reply, “Oh, we need to build up a very strong connection.

Christian Bale plays an 1830s detective tasked with solving a series of grisly, possibly cult-related murders in Netflix’s ice-cold thriller, “The Pale Blue Eye.” Watch the first trailer above.
Scott Cooper’s film, which the streamer acquired last year in a 55 million deal, takes place at West Point Academy, a military training school. When a cadet turns up dead, its leadership turns to Augustus Landor (Bale) for help – a local detective who, if rumors are true, “once elicited a confession with nothing more than a piercing look”.
The trailer opens on a wintry landscape, where Landor contemplates the crime at hand – a soldier has been hanged, with his heart expertly cut out from his chest.

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Christian Bale's latest, "The Pale Blue Eye," which also represents another collaboration for him with director Scott Cooper. Bale, who is coming off of this summer's "Thor: Love and Thunder," previously worked with Cooper on movies like "Out of the Furnace" and "Hostiles." This time? They're headed back to the 1800s for a mystery that ties into the king of old-time gothic spookiness, Edgar Allan Poe.
In this case, the legendary author behind "The Raven" and "The Masque of the Red Death" is played by Harry Melling, of "The Queen's Gambit" fame. So, how is it that Poe crosses paths with a man trying to solve a murder? Let's have a look-see.

Andrew Dominik’s long-gestating Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde received a reception Thursday night at its Venice world premiere that somehow managed to be both rapturous and stunned. The contradictory nature of that response reflects the divisiveness that will most likely follow the harrowing Nc-17 movie into awards season.
The Venice audience responded with rousing applause and a heap of appreciation as the nearly three-hour-long film came to a close, rising to give Dominik and his cast a standing ovation lasting around 14 minutes, the longest of the festival so far. The most exuberant moments of appreciation seemed to come when the attention was focused on star Ana de Armas, whose fully committed performance as Marilyn Monroe is certain to spark Oscar speculation. Just as the uncommonly strong and scandal-filled 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival was beginning to wind down, Andrew Dominik’s wildly ambitious Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde arrived on the scene Thursday to reignite discussion. When Netflix subscribers finally get to check out the long-awaited Marilyn Monroe film “Blonde” from director Andrew Dominik, they’ll see something rare for a mainstream release: an Nc-17 rating.
The forthcoming movie, which stars Ana de Armas as Monroe, is coming soon to Netflix and, on Wednesday, it was given the adults-only rating by the Motion Picture Association.
Not that anyone who has followed the project should be surprised. The film is based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates, which includes numerous graphic scenes of sex and violence. Dominik himself previously discussed the movie and revealed it was likely marked for an Nc-17 rating.
“It’s a demanding movie,” he said in February to ScreenDaily. “If the audience doesn’t like it, that’s the f–king audience’s problem. It’s not running for public office. … It’s an Nc-17 movie about Marilyn Monroe, it’s kind of what you want,...

Equal measures irritably supercilious and demonically brilliant, our introduction to this filmmaker came via his co-writing gig: 2004’s I Heart Huckabees. Fast forward a decade later, and Jeff Baena broke into Sundance’s U.S. Dramatic section with zom rom com (short of zombie romantic comedy). Starring girlfriend Aubrey Plaza, Life After Beth wasn’t as secretive as his follow up film. Not appearing on any radars, production wrapped up on Joshy in April, so this comedy is definitely ready to go out. List of players includes: Thomas Middleditch, Adam Pally, Alex Ross Perry, Nick Kroll, Brett Gelman, Jenny Slate, Lauren Graham, Aubrey Plaza, Joe Swanberg, Kris Swanberg, Alison Brie, Paul Weitz, Brian Patrick Farrell, Jake Johnson and Frankie Shaw.
