Before we know it, festival season will be upon us again along with (hopefully) some lovely British summer weather that’ll evoke the chill-out vibe everyone wants from a music festival. The V Festival, held at Chelmsford’s Hylands Park and Staffordshire’s Weston Park on the 17th and 18th of August, is already set to be another cracking year, complete with a line-up includes a bit of everything for everyone.
Beyonce and Kings of Leon are set to headline the festival, providing a solid contrast of pop and indie rock that will transpire through to the entire festival, ensuring that attendees manage to get a broad selection of music to choose from. If you’re thinking of going, it’s best to snap up tickets quickly, because as usual, they’re going to sell out long before the fest kicks off. You can buy tickets for the V festival here,...

Maximo Park have admitted that their future is uncertain. "We ask questions about ourselves before each record. Before this one we were like, 'Does the world need another Maximo Park record?' We wrote some songs and came to the conclusion that it does," he told The Sun. "To use a sporting analogy, we're taking it game by game. Boardmasters has always been a festival like no other and this year was one that even managed to top previous years. Thats right. I have been to many festivals in my time, several even this year and I am sure in the UK alone there are several hundred each year, but Boardmasters has always topped the list in my eyes and no doubt it has been the same for others.
The location of Newquay combined with the month of August, brings an optimised combination for success. Throughout the weekend we saw sunny skies, warm humid weather and little rain which could have easily ruined the festival experience like some of you may have witnessed at Download. The festival was broken down into two sites, easily accessible by shuttle bus. Watergate Bay where all the music and entertainment happened and Fistral Beach, where all the sports went down.

A centrepiece of the BBC and Arts Council's digital project The Space is set to blow the region away. Dan Carson takes a look
Here in the North East, we're well accustomed to music development agency Generator and Northern Film & Media stoking the region's creative fire with exciting, innovative arts projects. However that hasn't stopped eyebrows from being raised in all corners of the local creative arts industry at the sheer scale and ambition of their latest partnered project, Space Invasion, a series of experimental music, arts and film collaborations staged in abstract venues around the North East.
Space Invasion will unfold over what we're begrudgingly still calling 'the summer months' and is one of the biggest projects to receive funding from The Space, Arts Council England and the BBC's £5.5 million digital arts venture.

There have been a number of music videos in the last decade inspired by the YouTube culture revolution (see Weezer's "Pork and Beans" for the ultimate example) that has since resulted in everyone and their grandma (literally) having a webcam. Britain's alternative rock group Maximo Park has taken a more straightforward approach in incorporating YouTube culture by modeling their music video for "Hips as Lips" in the style of a teenager playing around with a camera in his room. The song's subdued overall sound but catchy chorus combined with the amusing antics of the teen make for a worthwhile watch and will likely having you seeking out more of Maximo Park's signature clash of 80s and 90s sounds.
Below you'll find the video for "Hips and Lips" as well as for their earlier singles "Books and Boxes" (which just might be the best song of the three featured here) and "Our Velocity".

Doves are preparing for their last show before going on hiatus. The "Black and White Town" band will be playing a final homecoming show at Manchester's Warehouse Project on October 16, after which they have no plans to work on a new album or tour.

We all know you can't step two feet into the Internet without getting a Lady Gaga cover all over your shoes. The cover phenomenon isn't anything new — in fact, it happens every couple of years: One massive song is the catalyst for a whole spawn of other artists to remake, cover and call their own. A few years ago it was Rihanna's "Umbrella," and before that we had a thousand versions of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy."
With Lady Gaga, it's not just one song that other artists love to cover — it's her whole catalog.
