Exclusive: Bluestone Entertainment has preemptively acquired rights to “Support Group for the Formerly Possessed,” an original horror short story written for Assemble Media by J. Preston Witt, with plans to produce a feature adaptation alongside Assemble.

New Line has picked up the action-thriller pitch “Classified” with “John Wick” director Chad Stahelski attached to direct, according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan will write the screenplay.
The log line for “Classified” describes the project as a “high octane, cat-and-mouse thriller, in the vein of ‘Die Hard’ meets ‘Indiana Jones,’ set inside a top secret government bunker that contains relics covertly recovered during World War II — that turn out to be more powerful and dangerous than ever imagined.”
Stahelski is about to start shooting the fourth installment of the “John Wick” franchise after directing the first three films. He is also currently in development on a reboot of the cult classic “Highlander.” Stahelski is a self professed “Highlander” fan, who first watched the 1986 action-fantasy film starring Sean Connery when he was in high school. The film, which spawned the catchphrase “There can only be one,...

Who knew you could get this much mileage out of a ghost named Toby? Nine years ago this week, Oren Peli started production on "Paranormal Activity," which was made for $27, a box of Band-Aids, and three plates of ham sandwiches. Truly independent in every way, the film premiered a year later at ScreamFest, and then… didn't come out for two more years. While "Paranormal Activity" is a remarkable success story, it's also not an instant one. Peli had to struggle to get his film from that first screening to a major theatrical release, and there were plenty of fine-tuning that had to be done to get it there. "Paranormal" has many godfathers, and by the time the film came out in 2009, it had been through many hands. The result, though, has been one of the biggest horror franchises in recent memory, and it laid the foundation for Jason Blum's entire horror empire.

Meet the Paranormal Activity film that promises to wrap the series up! Here's our review of The Ghost Dimension...
This is a spoiler-free review, which includes plot details from the previous five instalments in the Paranormal Activity series.
Back in 2009, Paramount masterminded a revolutionary marketing campaign for Oren Peli's micro-budget found footage horror movie Paranormal Activity. With endorsements from the likes of Steven Spielberg, it was arguably the most hyped film of its year and certainly the most profitable, returning $193m on a $15,000 budget.
Sequels abounded and the films comfortably usurped the annual Halloween slot occupied by the Saw franchise over the course of the following three sequels. 2013 was supposed to see two Paranormal Activity movies - a “Latin-American oriented” spin-off at the beginning of the year and then a fifth instalment at Halloween as usual, but the cool reception to Paranormal Activity 4 apparently led...

Despite all the praise heaped on it on release, I was never really a fan of Josh Tranks found-footage superhero movie Chronicle. So when Project Almanac was initially announced as a “found-footage time travel movie” I was less than enthusiastic. Imagine my surprise then when the film turned out to not only be a fantastic time travel movie but also one of the best found-footage films Ever made. For me it’s even better than the grand-daddy of them all, The Blair Witch Project.
Project Almanac tells the story of David (Johnny Weston), a brilliant high school student whose skills get him a place at MIT; however a lack of funds means that he can’t attend the only school that will push him academically.

In our latest horror/sci-fi round-up, we have details on two upcoming Jeremy Renner movies, a look at the Hannibal Season 3 poster recently posted by showrunner Bryan Fuller, details on Colin Trevorrow's next film after Jurassic World, and an update on the high school horror film, Lockdown (formerly known as Lockdown at Franklin High).
Captain America: Civil War & Story of Your Life: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeremy Renner will appear as Hawkeye in Captain America: Civil War. The plot's inclusion of the Superhero Registration Act means we should see a large number of superheroes in the sequel, with Chadwick Boseman's first appearance as Black Panther confirmed and Spider-Man's involvement likely. Captain America: Civil War will also star Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), and Daniel Brühl in a role that's unknown at this time (though he's expected to play a...

Fresh off the release of Paramount’s original sci-fi movie “Project Almanac,” scribes Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan have been hired to rewrite the high school monster movie “Lockdown at Franklin High” for Sony Pictures, Platinum Dunes and Benderspink, TheWrap has learned. Imagine Back to the Future meets Chronicle seen through the eyes of Michael Bay and you've pretty much landed on the latest offering from the found footage factory, Project Almanac.
Bay produces this movie through his Platinum Dunes production company and, though first-time director Dean Israelite initially has fun with Project Almanac's nifty premise, the film's inevitable descent into 'Bayhem' prevents it from being anything other than fast-forgotten entertainment.
Jonny Weston leads the cast as David, a geeky high-schooler who discovers time machine blueprints left by his late father. With his pals Quinn (Sam Lerner), Allen (Adam Le), sister Christina (Virginia Gardner) and school crush Jessie (Sofia Black-d'Elia), they construct the device and start pinballing across the space-time continuum.

I don't think I could even begin to attempt to explain how the time travel is supposed to work in director Dean Israelite's Project Almanac, but it's not as if it matters. A group of teenagers stumble on blueprints telling them how to make a time machine, they make it, use it to get rich, popular and to party at Lollapalooza. What's not to understand about thatc Of course, when things begin to go wrong, and one of them attempts to fix things on his own, it's no longer fun and games. Yes, the butterfly effects is in full... ahem... effect. Told using the found footage style of filmmaking, Project Almanac is never going to come together logically, but that doesn't stop it from being a harmless little time travel feature that does tend to wear thin and overstay its welcome once things begin to fall apart for the group of five teens.

With the Super Bowl kicking off Sunday, it seems somehow appropriate that we’re looking at another “American Sniper” blowout at the box office this weekend.
The NFL’s biggest game has seen more than its share of lopsided contests over the years, and if Las Vegas set odds on the movies, the breakout hit from Warner Bros. would be a 35-point favorite.

Produced by Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes, “Project Almanac” is an agreeable and entertaining teen time-travel thriller that’s equal parts Ray Bradbury and John Hughes, as our five teen leads unlock the secrets of “temporal relocation” and then trample through the delicate space-time continuum in pursuit of riches, repair and romance. Directed by Dean Israelite in his feature-length debut, the big conceit of the script and story is that what we’re seeing is all footage recorded by the film’s characters throughout their adventures. It’s a stylistic and shooting decision that adds very little and ultimately distracts...

Pining for those long summer days and blood-splattered nights at Camp Crystal Lake? Looking forward to the next found footage entry in the Paranormal Activity franchise? In advance of its release at the end of this month, Paramount Pictures has posted five new TV spots for teen sci-fi thriller, Project Almanac. Directed by Dean Israelite and based on a script by Paranormal Activity 5 scribes Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, the movie concerns the meddlesome antics of a group of youngsters who discover a time travel device and begin to utilize its capabilities for their own gain. Each 30-second tease expands on a specific area of the project, most of which involve life-changing repercussions.
Embracing the tired found footage style, the movie unravels through home video footage as the clutch of kids document their experiences. The genre itself is somewhat exhausted, but judging by the good word-of-mouth which emerged following a secret Comic-Con screening last year, Project Almanac has the potential to rise above its competitors. Stephen St. Leger and James Mather have found their way to The Lost Squad, coming on board to write and direct the project for Rogue Pictures. Adrian Askarieh and Daniel Alter are producing.
Squad is based on a Devil's Due comic written by Chris Kirby and drawn by Alan Robinson. The miniseries revolved around the supernatural action-adventures of a squad of U.S. soldiers who take on weird missions during World War II, fighting Adolf Hitler's occult agents and other threats.
Devil's Due Josh Blaylock is co-producing.
Andrew Rona, Andrew Deutschman and Alex Heineman will oversee.
The duo, known and Saint & Mather, are based in Ireland; St. Leger is a commercial director, Mather is a director of photography. The pair are riding into Hollywood on buzz created by Prey Alone, a high-octane 15-minute short they made digitally using actors and some hand props. It is that technique, similar to the fashion of how "300" was made, that they plan to use in making Squad.
