Family Jewels (aka Barry Munday) **
Stars: Patrick Wilson, Judy Greer, Chloë Sevigny, Malcolm McDowell, Jean Smart, Christopher McDonald, Cybill Shepherd | Written by Chris D’Arienzo, Frank Turner Hollon | Directed by Chris D’Arienzo
If you’re looking for a film where you laugh with every passing minute, then I’m sorry to tell you, you’ve picked the wrong film. Family Jewels is the story of Barry Munday (Wilson), who is a single 30 something, who doesn’t seem to have much ambition in his life, doesn’t seem to care about his career, and definitely doesn’t have a care for meeting the one and building a life with her. In fact he’s the kind of guy who enjoys drunken one night stands, without the memory of who he was with or what he did.
However, one afternoon he finds that his days of casual sexual conquests may be up,...

In the Chris D.Arienzo film Barry Munday, the title character, played by Patrick Wilson, has to have his testicles removed when a man bashes a trumpet into his crotch . and that.s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to weirdness. Based on the book Life is A Strange Place by Frank Turner Hollon, this independent is packed to the brim with quirkiness, hysterical moments and terrific performances by both Wilson and co-star Judy Greer. Sitting in on a roundtable with D.Arienzo, Wilson and Greer, the conversation was much like the movie: never too far from veering off into the abnormal. In addition to talking about the making of the film and creating the characters, the three discuss what it.s like to work without Spanx, accepting jobs in superhero costumes and genital mutilation. You know, the stuff most junkets aren.t made up of. Check...

Cannes 2010 - Voltage Pictures are introducing completed comedy Barry Munday to buyers at Cannes. Starring Patrick Wilson, Chloe Sevigny and Colin Hanks, the film follows a womaniser whose hedonistic lifestyle comes to an abrupt end when his testicles are removed by an irate father. We're assuming that's one of his conquest's fathers as opposed to his own, but don't take our word on that. Written and directed by first time helmer Chris D'Arienzo, Barry Munday is based on Frank Turner Hollon's novel, Life Is A Strange...

Director: Chris D'Arienzo Writers: Chris D'Arienzo (screenplay), Frank Turner Hollon (novel) Starring: Patrick Wilson, Judy Greer, Chloe Sevigny, Jean Smart, Malcolm McDowell, Cybill Shepherd, Billy Dee Williams, Colin Hanks, Missi Pyle, Christopher McDonald, Kyle Gass Based on the novel Life is a Strange Place by Frank Turner Hollon, Barry Munday (Patrick Wilson) is the poster-child of all douche bags. His tool-ery seems to have no end, as this self proclaimed ladies man who inappropriately flirts with his female co-workers and heads out to local fern bars each night with his best friend to try and score with chicks. Conquests are somehow accomplished on a fairly regular basis for Barry, proving that desperation seems to fall on both parties in these stringless and empty sexual encounters. During an unexpected hookup at a shopping mall movie theater, Barry meets an aggressive young lady who turns out to not only be underage, but...

Chris D'Arienzo knows how to make a good first impression. For his feature debut, D'Arienzo adapted Frank Turner Hollon's 2003 novel, Life is a Strange Place, into the comedy Barry Munday, which screened last week at the South by Southwest Film Festival. It's an impressively polished comedy with a stellar cast including Patrick Wilson, Judy Greer, and Chloe Sevigny in the story of a shallow, would-be lothario who loses his testicles in a freak accident...and then soon learns that prior to that he impregnated a woman he doesn't remember sleeping with (check out our review here). Writer-director D'Arienzo was on hand at the SXSW press day to talk about adapting the book and the joys of improv. How did this project come about? The book was given to me by my agent, and it was one of those things where you just saw how it could be this really...

I’m having a hard time explaining the premise of Barry Munday to anyone who owns a pair of testicles in a way that doesn’t immediately make them lose interest. It’s my suspicion that the idea of losing your balls just isn’t one a guy could get it up for. But it is that event in Barry Munday that is a conduit for great change.

The 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival has barely started and already the cream of the crop is starting to rise to the top, and one of the big hits so far is Chris D'Arienzo's hilarious comedy Barry Munday . Based on the novel "Life is a Strange Place" by Frank Turner Hollon, it stars Patrick Wilson as the title character, a cocky womanizer who ends up sans testicles after a bizarre accident. Soon after, he's contacted by the representation of one Ginger Farley (Judy Greer) claiming he's the father of her unborn child after a one-night stand, and Barry suddenly realizes this might be his last and only chance to sire a child. Even though Ginger is a frumpy and negative woman who would never normally interest Barry, he does his best to make it work even after meeting her...

The SXSW Film Festival [1] is just a couple of days away, and one of the movies that will be premiering there is a dark comedy called Barry Munday, from first-time director Chris D'Arienzo. Based on the novel Life is a Strange Place by Frank Turner Hollon, the movie stars Patrick Wilson (Little Children, Watchmen) as a total douchebag who wakes up in the hospital one day to find that his testicles have been removed, and a woman he doesn't remember having sex with is pregnant with his child. Total bummer. The pregnant woman is played by Judy Greer of Arrested Development fame, and the cast also includes Chloë Sevigny, Malcolm McDowell, Colin Hanks, Cybill Shepherd and Billy Dee Williams. The trailer for the movie looks pretty hilarious, and to be honest, I probably wouldn't have even known it was Patrick Wilson if I hadn't read his name on the cast list.

Cinematical has just received the first set of exclusive stills from the film Barry Munday, which will enjoy its world premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival on Saturday March 13th at 2pm at the world famous Paramount theater. One of the films we've been looking forward to the most at this year's fest, Barry Munday stars Patrick Wilson as a suburban wanna-be ladies man who loses one of his testicles after being attacked in a movie theater ... and, to make matters worse, learns that he's facing a paternity suit from a woman he doesn't remember having sex with. Happens to you all the time, I'm sure. Nevertheless, Barry marches forward and welcomes what may very well be his last chance to be a father with open arms ... until, well, you'll have to see the film to see what happens next.
I'm personally looking forward to watching Patrick Wilson...

What do docs The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters and Mad Hat Ballroom have in common? Both films received their world premiere in Park City, but not at Redford's festival but the other main street venue the hosts Slamdance. If I'm on target with my predictions, we'll be seeing the filmmakers of these docs, Seth Gordon (as a producer) and Marilyn Agrelo in Park City once again, but with Sundance credentials. - What do docs The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters and Mad Hat Ballroom have in common? - To be honest I'm losing track on just who is attached to this project - the plug got pulled somewhere in early 06' and has just now has been resuscitated. According to Variety, Patrick Wilson (who has seen his stock go up significantly since Todd Field's Little Children and has starring roles in Lakeview Terrace, The Watchmen and Passengers) is probably taking over the lead role that was assigned to Luke Wilson - they both have the same build, so I'd argue that this is indeed the case. Barry Munday still has Chris D'Arienzo on board to direct his debut (from his own script) with filming to being in April and remain in Los Angeles. The indie pic (2 dollar bet this preems in Sundance of 09') is based on Frank Turner Hollon's novel "Life Is a Strange Place", this is about a womanizer who wakes up sans
