You know, whenever I open my mailbox and find a package of DVDs from Planet Fury, I throw up a little bit in my mouth. "Why?", you might ask. Because I know that, in among the really good flicks, there's going to be a really bad one. Not a "so bad it's good" flickershow. Those, I love. No...I mean really Bad.
And then there's A Darker Reality.
A Darker Reality follows the investigation of Lapd Detective Alex "Cold Steel" Belasco (Burns) and Dr. Jesse Metcalf (Doench) as they hunt for a serial killer known as "The Ghost" (Baldwin). Actually, the two of them spend a great deal of the time seeing who can overact more. And the "Maurice Evans Ham Award" for 2008 goes to...Daniel Baldwin! So that's where those excess pounds came from,...

*full disclosure: a screener of this film was provided by Phase 4 Films.
Director: Chris Kazmier.
Writer: Sxv'leithan Essex.
A six month streak of not having to turn a movie off early has been broken by Phase 4 Films' A Darker Reality. This reviewer wanted to turn this film off at the twenty minute mark, but an obligation kept this critic watching until about the one hour point. The film did not improve. Starring Daniel Baldwin, A Darker Reality is a reimaging of Chris Kazmier's earlier film Dark Reality (2006). This product was finished in 2008; unsurprisingly, this follow-up waited three years before finding a release date. And this reviewer hopes that Kazmier gives up on this atorcious series or finds money to improve his filmmaking style. Full of bad acting, zero musical selections, dark sets and tortuous scenes, A Darker Reality gets a place on 28Dla's Worst Films of...

Co-creators Katee Sackhoff and Sxv'Leithan Essex have given SuperHeroHype an exclusive look at the character design for Versus, their genetically-created antichrist wrapped in a Vargas girl's body.
Plans were to announce Versus at Comic-Con this year. So what happened? "Things got really crazy for the both of us with a few other projects which unfortunately took time away from Versus," says Sackhoff. "We wanted Versus to have an impact at Comic-Con and had some very visual ideas to make her seen but time became the enemy and we don't want her to get lost in the mix."
The image is drawn and colored by Essex based on the detailed discussions between the two of them. Essex explains: "We talked about everything to make her sexy but tactical. There's a reason why her suit looks so pin up doll meets assassin. Versus has a hidden...

A trio of new werewolf films is slated to kick off next year with Sxv'leithan Essex's new Growl, a film described as Fight Club with lycanthropes. Shock recently got the grabs on some new stills from the film, which is being shot in Los Angeles, including a still of Katee Sackhoff of Battlestar Galactica fame. Included below for your enjoyment!
The synopsis involves some sort of traveling 'fight club' which hits up a tiny ghost town set in the Colorado mountains. They take up some matches against the local toughs, only to find that the denizens of the town can get a little hairy and long of tooth.
This film sounds interesting, if perplexing - this breakdown might make an entertaining 90 minutes, but a trilogy? There has to be more involved. Especially considering the director has said there is also a graphic novel and video game planned. The bonus...

The werewolf subgenre has always been somewhat of a bastard stepchild in the world of horror, but what exactly is it about the cursed creatures that prevents so much fiction and filmmaking on the subject from being all that great? And, more importantly, will the upcoming Growl be one of the good ones?
Shock Till You Drop got the first look at what can only be described as Fight Club with werewolves. Director Sxv'Leithan Essex explains:
"Two of my favorite things thrown in the ring to see what will come out alive. But what I love most about it is it's completely character driven. I started writing and wanting to direct after seeing Aliens in theaters and how James Cameron made you care about the characters who would eventually be in peril. I love the characters in Growl like they are my family, and it sucks to have to kill some of them off.

Katee Sackoff has managed a sort of teflon magic in her post Battlestar career. She keeps landing in roles tacked onto the last seasons of shows or borderline B-movies that normally would be the sign of a waning career. Because starring in a movie described as a mix between Fight Club and werewolves, which is directed and written by a guy named Sxv'Leithan just screams of a climbing career right? That's how Sxv'Leithan Essex (what is that? ancient Assyrian?) describes his new film Growl, set to hit theaters in 2011.
Here's the official plot summary: "A traveling underground fight club called 'The Brawlers' arrive at a derelict ghost town tucked away in the Colorado Rockies. When last we reported on actress Katee Sackhoff, the former Starbuck was rumored to be picking up a healthy pile of Typhoid Mary comics and dropping hints at a possible Marvel Comics movie role. Now it appears the "Battlestar Galactica" alum and mystery star in the upcoming season of Fox's "24," is switching gears from actor to author as the co-writer behind an upcoming comic book project.
Sackhoff told TV Guide last week that she'd be announcing a new project entitled, "Versus" with co-creator and screenwriter Sxv'Leithan Essex at next summer's San Diego Comic-Con International.
Apparently her multiple convention appearances have rubbed off on the actress, who shared a few of her earliest comic book reading memories and noted a potential writing influence.

Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff is to launch her own comic book.
Sackhoff, who plays Captain Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace in the space series, has penned the title with writer/production designer friend Sxv'Leithan Essex but says she isn't ready to disclose details of what the comic will be about.
She told TVGuide: "I'm launching my own comic book that we're getting ready to debut at Comic-Con next year. It's called Versus. I wrote it with my friend Sxv'Leithan Essex. We're very excited."
The 29-year-old, who has joined the cast of 24, added: "I grew up reading [the comic book] Betty & Veronica. I was obsessed with it.
"I was always a Betty, because I felt like identified with her but at the same time Veronica kicked ass, right?"
"Every time that we would go on an airplane or on a car trip I would go and get them and now I've become a fan of just the genre in general.

Now here's a movie after my own heart. Because aren't we overdue for a mixed martial arts movie featuring werewolves? The film-to-be is titled Growl. The very notion of a movie about a traveling pack of underground Mma fighting werewolves makes me want to cheer.

12.00 Normal 0 false false false En-us X-none X-none MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 Vampire culture has gotten the film treatment more than any niche of the occult world. The world seems to be ga-ga for vampirism; the inherent sexuality, the blood, the power - the elements come together each and every time to form the same movie, the only real difference is how the features are implemented. Bled definitely has a new angle on the vampire concept treating it as a mere means to be exploited for immortality instead of focusing on the immortality of vampirism itself. The blood of innocents sustaining the life of an immortal: old and mentioned in Bled. Where Bled hits a new vein is in how the vampirism exists and the elementary analysis of addiction that gets thrown in along with it.
