Russell is a rideshare driver with a Porsche. That’s about all he has left after his career and marriage fell apart. So when Charlotte (Sophie Dalah; Satanic) starts offering him large amounts of cash to cancel his plans and drive her around the city, and not log it in his app, he agrees. She comes running out of her first stop with a small box, and her ex in hot pursuit. But that’s just a taste of what’s to come. When they accidentally hit a pedestrian Charlotte convinces him not to call the police, she can help him get rid of the body. When the body steals the Porche and drives off into the night, that’s when it really gets weird.

Russell (Aj Bowen) is a good guy. We know because his joint rideshare driver helps a customer by carrying her giant wreath to the door before refusing a tip with a genuine “Merry Christmas.” You kind of have to be if you’re working a thankless job on the biggest holiday of the year so you won’t go insane before igniting a killing spree. “Good” doesn’t equal “saint,” however. He’s not going to pass up a couple hundred dollars when the next fare (Sophie Dalah’s Charlotte) asks him to wait for her without wanting to waste time putting in a second destination. And he’s not above massaging a couple hundred more out by saying he’ll have to cancel plans to comply. So don’t believe he’s innocent of what transpires next.
Complicity is one thing, but active participation is different. Russell watches Charlotte...

"Take a deep breath... Finish the job." Dark Sky Films has released official trailer for yet another new ride share driver thriller titled Night Drive, from filmmakers Brad Baruh & Meghan Leon. This one twists the concept a little bit and makes the passenger the villain as their strange ride goes into the night. A ride share driver's life is turned upside down after an unexpected series of misfortunes. When a business proposition takes him to even darker places than before, he hopes that he can somehow survive the night. "Surprising at every turn and with a wickedly dark sense of humor Leon & Baruh's Night Drive is an unforgettably shocking ride-along with a seemingly normal man and the most abnormal of passengers." The film stars Aj Bowen & Sophie Dalah, along with Reba Buhr. Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting really tired of all these ride share thrillers - they're all so dull and derivative,...

In Night Drive, a comedy of errors unfolds after a ride-share app driver (Aj Bowen) picks up an intriguing young woman (Sophie Dalah) and quickly realizes that his passenger is about to keep him on his toes in some very unexpected ways. Night Drive recently celebrated its world premiere at Fantastic Fest 2019, and Daily Dead sat down with both of the film’s directors, Meghan Leon and Brad Baruh, as well as the cast – Bowen, Dalah and Scott Poythress – to hear about their experiences collaborating on Night Drive, how their tight-knit group came together throughout production on the darkly comedic holiday romp (yay for more Christmas-centric movies!), and more!
If we could start with you, Meghan and Brad, and talk about the story. It’s very ambitious, but it’s all condensed within this one night, so were there any unique challenges for you, in terms of hitting those narrative high points?...

The momentum was building fast heading into Day 2 of Arrow Video FrightFest, as horror icon Barbara Crampton swooped into town to introduce the European Premieres of Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund’s Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich as well as Brad Baruh’s Dead Night. Elsewhere boasted the world premiere of Jon Knautz’s The Cleaning Lady and the UK premiere of Pascal Laugier’s brutal Incident in a Ghost Land. Friday also saw the festival’s only Asian feature film, Shinichiro Ueda’s riotously entertaining One Cut of the Dead, take its UK bow. Over at the Prince Charles, the legendary Scala Cinema was lovingly celebrated by former programmer Jane Giles, in conversation with Alan Jones. The festival had planned to screen a double bill of Julien Temple’s...

I can see some people already rolling their eyes when they hear about another ‘cabin in the woods’ style horror movie. Yes there has been a lot of them in the last 5, 10, even 20 years but plenty of good ones. I was hoping Dead Night would be one of these good ones.
It at least tries to do things differently. Not long after it begins, we are told what is going to happen in the movie via a TV documentary. Those kind of shows that explain ‘real-life’ crime and have ‘re-enactments’ when there’s no actual footage. But this show only shows one side of the story and the movie itself shows something that turns out completely different.

Barbara Crampton takes on a devilishly fun role in Dead Night, now in select theaters and on VOD courtesy of Dark Sky Films. Also starring Brea Grant and Aj Bowen, the movie follows a family (parents played by Grant and Bowen) that heads to a remote cabin in Oregon and stumbles across a mysterious woman, played by Barbara Crampton, who is passed out in the snow. Unfortunately for the family, this mysterious woman is anything but helpless and the night quickly turns deadly.
I caught up with Barbara Crampton to talk to her about taking on this fun and different role, reteaming with Brea Grant and Aj Bowen, what she looks for when taking on a new genre role, and she also talks about her upcoming roles in Reborn and the Castle Freak remake:

*there are spoilers here. Director: Brad Baruh. Writers: Irving Walker and Brad Baruh. Cast: Elise Luthman, Joshua Hoffman, James Bartz, Mikie Beatty, Joseph Bishara, Aj Bowen, Shauna Case and Jagger Chase. Good night or Dead Night, the name of this feature, is a euphemism trying to be developed in this creature feature, slasher cum cabin in the wood scenario. Here, the Pollack family are about to arrive at a retreat. James (Aj Bowen) has cancer and the forest sanctuary they are going to has a mystic reputation for healing. Just how that works is uncertain. I can guess that's due to either ley lines or a meteorite that crashed at this spot over a millennia ago. Both are implied. Casey (Brea Grant) and their children, Jessica (Sophie Dalah) and Jason (Joshua Hoffman), are together for some family bonding time. By all indications, James is dying. Tagging along is Jessica’s...

Zombies, Murder, and Gore – Oh my! I’ve never been much of a horror buff and I’m not one to get excited when a new horror film comes out unless it’s some sort of a psychological thriller. That being said, I do have a few favorite films from the genre and I do appreciate what the genre has done for the industry, so I hope you readers can hear me out. Dark Sky Films’ Dead Night directed by Brad Baruh (Bradford) is completely insane.
During a family trip to a cabin in the snowy woods, the Pollacks encounter a stranger that will turn what was supposed to be a fun getaway to the Pollacks wanting to get away – fast. The stranger (Barbara Crampton) unleashes terror on the family and a mother (Brea Grant) begins to lose her sanity. The film tells two different perspectives which makes for more chaos.

"I was born and raised in these woods… I'll be just fine."
Yeah... right. We all know what happens when people think the woods is a good place to go on a relaxing vacation. Dark and sinister things happen and people die! That's the truth because it happens in every horror movie that is set in the woods!
We've got a creepy trailer for an upcoming horror film called Dead Night, and it actually looks like it's worth checking out. But that's coming from a guy who loves watching horror movies, even the bad ones. I like what I'm seeing in this trailer, though, it looks like it going to be a wildly eerie horror flick with some surprising twists and turns.
The movie stars Brea Grant (Heroes) and 80's horror icon Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, You're Next, From Beyond) and this is the synopsis:

"I was born and raised in these woods... I'll be just fine." Dark Sky Films has released an official trailer for a horror film titled Dead Night, which is the feature directorial debut of a producer on John Dies at the End. The film features two different storylines about a terrifying night in the woods. Here's the quick synopsis for this: a caring mother loses her sanity, setting off a chain of events resulting in tragedy and murder. The story of Casey Pollack unfolds from two very different perspectives when one night in the woods culminates in absolute terror. Dead Night stars Brea Grant, 80's horror icon Barbara Crampton, plus Aj Bowen, Sophie Dalah, Elise Luthman, and Joshua Hoffman. I'm digging the snowy setting for this film, and it looks like it has some very gnarly, freaky twists. Another intriguing horror film to add to your watch queue. Here's the...

Living in Chicago, I spend much of my year being jealous of all the people I see online going to the various genre film festivals held around the parts of the country that aren’t here… until now.
For the first time ever, Chicago is getting its very own full-blown genre festival with Cinepocalypse, a week-long event running November 2nd–9th at the Music Box Theatre, the best place to see a movie in the entire city. Formerly the Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival (which I have attended since it began and always completely loved), Cinepocalypse now has a new venue, a larger and more ambitious slate of programming, and dozens of special guests. It’s going to be bigger and better than any festival of its kind the city has ever seen, and I can’t wait to be there as much as possible to see as many cool movies as possible.

The terror of the Tall Man has stuck with viewers since his footsteps first echoed onscreen in 1979’s Phantasm, and last March it was revealed that Angus Scrimm’s legendary horror movie villain will stalk the screen one last time in Phantasm: Ravager. The film stars Reggie Bannister as ice cream man turned warrior Reggie and also includes original cast members Michael Baldwin, Bill Thornbury, Kat Lester and, of course, Angus Scrimm as the Tall Man.

When the surprise news broke earlier this week that a fifth Phantasm movie — called Phantasm: Ravager — was not just in the works but had actually been completed, it raised an awful lot of questions. Who directed the latest entry in the beloved cult horror franchise about the ghoulish, mysterious Tall Man and his lethal flying spheres? Which previous actors from the series (if any) would be making an appearance in the film? And when might we see some footage from the first Phantasm movie in 16 years?
EW can confirm that Phantasm: Ravager is directed by filmmaker and artist David Hartman,...

After a seven-year break, movie writer-director Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) returns with John Dies at the End.
Based on the novel by David Wong, the horror-comedy movie is set in a time when a new drug, Soy Sauce, is out, promising an out-of-body experience with each hit. It’s supposed to make users drift across time and dimensions, but when they come back, they’re no longer human.
As a silent invasion happens, the world needs a hero, but the only people available are college dropouts John (Rob Mayes, TV’s The Client List) and David (Chase Williamson, TV’s Never Fade Away), who can barely hold down jobs.
The R-rated independent film also stars Paul Giamatti (Win Win), Clancy Brown (Cowboys & Aliens) and Glynn Turman (Super 8).

Magnet Releasing has taken it upon themselves to distribute the supernatural sci-fi horror comedy John Dies at the End. I had a chance to see this film while at Sundance earlier this year, and I thought it was an extremely entertaining flick. It's definitely not for everyone because it's such an odd, far out movie, but that's why I liked it so much! It was different kind of wacky than anything else being made.
The film was written and directed by Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep), and is an adaptation of the novel written by Cracked.com's David Wong. It stars Paul Giamatti, Chase Williamson as David, Rob Meyers as John, Doug Jones, and Clancy Brown, who plays a badass well known Russian paranormal psychic named Dr. Albert Marconi, who helps John and Dave on a dimensional journey.

Take another hit of Soy Sauce before watching this psychedelic reel for John Dies at the End. This is a surreal film from director Don Coscarelli (Bubba Ho-Tep) that promises to reveal the secrets of the universe. This horror, comedy stars Paul Giamatti and Clancy Brown in a supernatural thriller that really plays with reality. What is real? Video and online production company M3 Television is expanding into program development with the appointment of former "Dancing With the Stars" producer Victoria Mercado Guinto to oversee a new multiplatform content division.
The development and production unit will encompass M3's current pilot and series production roster for television and the Web as well as short- and longform projects for all media.
Guinto has worked on M3's field production operations -- encompassing pilots, series, commercials, music videos, electronic press kits, trailers, promo and interstitial sales campaigns -- since joining the company in December.
M3, whose credits include "ESPN Hollywood", was founded in 2003. The company is headed by president Andy Meyers, whose partners include Roman Perez and Brad Baruh.
Along with ABC's "Dancing", Guinto worked on that network's "The Bachelor" franchise and produced a series of Endemol USA reality shows and pilots for ABC, CBS and Lifetime. She began her career at CNN, working as an associate producer on "Larry King Live", before leaving for MTV, where she worked on "The Hills" and other shows.
