Ten years ago, the writing and directing duo of Jen and Sylvia Soska (a.k.a. the Twisted Twins) teamed up with Katharine Isabelle of Ginger Snaps and Freddy vs. Jason to make the body horror film American Mary (pick up a copy Here). To mark the film’s tenth anniversary, the Soskas have created “a variety of American Mary Ten Year Anniversary items for your collection and to celebrate a decade of modification”, which are available for purchase through their Etsy store. But that’s not the only way they’re celebrating. Speaking to a fan on Twitter, the Soskas revealed they are currently developing an American Mary TV series!

“Sometimes dead is better”
One of the wonderful things about the horror genre is the low barrier to entry. If a young filmmaker today has a GoPro, a monster energy drink and an idea (or someone else’s idea) then they can make a film. We are told, by the Roger Corman school of film making that for a young film maker getting out there and just making low budget horror films is the number one way to hone their craft and learn their skills. So what would a young John Carpenter have achieved given a GoPro and a can of monster energy drink back in the early 1960s?
This impossible to answer question somehow takes us into talking about the low ($39K of...

Canadian performer Tristan Risk has been steadily building a name for herself in our horror and cult film community as an actress over the years. Our own Izzy Lee directed Risk in her 2015 short film Innsmouth and she has worked with other female directors, specifcally other Vancouver area locals the Soska Sisters (American Mary) and Gigi Saul Guerrero (Madre de Dios). Well now it is Risk's turn to get behind the camera. She has just completed post on her first short film, a horror comedy Parlour Tricks. Fittingly to Risk's penchant for dark and twisted things, including her dancing with snakes, Parlour Tricks is a short film about a seance with an unexpected guest. The film will be looking to get into...

Here's a strange yet fascinating trailer for an upcoming fantasy/horror film for you to watch called Ayla. This is a mysterious dark thriller that tells the story of a man who is haunted by the death of his 4-year-old sister. 30 years after her death, he decides to bring her back to life as a woman and as you'd expect, things get really weird. This may be a low-budget indie film that was funded on Kickstarter, but it sure does look intriguing.
The movie was directed by a filmmaker who just goes by the name Elias and that it stars Tristan Risk as Ayla, along with Nicholas Wilder, Dee Wallace, Sarah Schoofs, D'Angelo Midili, Bill Oberst Jr., and Andrew Sensenig.
There's no release date for the film, but when it is released I'm willing to check it out. Watch the trailer for yourself and tell us what you think. ...

From the official synopsis, the authorities believe that a young man has killed his girlfriend. Before his arrest, he goes on a two day journey to track down the real killer. "You don't see the resemblance?" An official trailer has debuted for a dark fantasy sci-fi thriller titled Ayla, from an American director known only as "Elias". The story is about a man haunted by the mysterious death of his 4-year-old sister, who decides to bring her back to life 30 years later as an adult woman - "obsession becomes flesh". Obviously things turn out a bit weird, and only get weirder, and this trailer definitely hints at that. The cast of Ayla includes Tristan Risk as the titular Ayla, along with Nicholas Wilder, Dee Wallace, Sarah Schoofs, D'Angelo Midili, Bill Oberst Jr., and Andrew Sensenig. The footage in this trailer reminds me of Splice, in a way, which seems to be appropriate comparison. I'm not sure what to make of this, seems like it could be good, but it could also be awful and way too experimental. Check it out. Here's...

February is known as Women in Horror Month, when the spotlight is put on female filmmakers working inside our favorite genre, and many horror sites run pieces about movies directed by women. And that’s great! But there’s no reason why that spotlight should be limited to only one month, particularly when there are so many brilliant and talented female filmmakers working in the genre. Why not use this October to hit up these titles on Shudder and get to know some of the most exciting female voices in horror right now?

Screen Anarchy is happy to premiere the first teaser for Ayla, the new film from writer/director Elias Ganster (Gut). Elton, a man haunted by the mysterious death of his 4-year-old sister, brings her back to life thirty years later as an adult woman, with dire consequences. It is an interesting teaser, with hints of some body horror going on in there along with glimpses of the always fascinating Tristan Risk. Out of curiousity I looked up the meaning of her character's name Ayla. It is Hebrew and Turkish in origin and could either mean oak tree, halo or moonlight. I cannot say if any of that ends up being intentional on Ganster's part but nature does appear to weigh in thematically here, as...

In a world where there are a lot of indie filmmakers doing it wrong, it's refreshing when it's done right.
Now, I'm not talking about film quality or tired stories etc. I'm talking about old fashioned "We actually give a shit about our fans and want them to know." It's about the little things.
Running a horror website for over seven years in the red with no steady income stream generated by the site can get quite discouraging. What makes it worse is when filmmakers and producers feel they are gracing you with their film and doing you a favor by "letting you" watch their movie's, forgetting that the professional rout is to offer a screener for review consideration.
Here at MoreHorror we try to get to as many screeners as we can, but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Sometimes, there's no real incentive, just a sense of expectation,...

The week I saw Fetish Factory, the new feature from writer/director Staci Layne Wilson, I also rewatched Anna Biller’s The Love Witch and Hillary Clinton lost her chance to be the first female president of the United States. I was very much in the mindset of seeing art through a specific prism of gender politics and sexism, which may have colored my reading of the movie. At the same time, I don’t know if that’s true. This is a movie with gender politics very much on its mind. You don’t make a movie about the male customers of a sex fetish club being turned into bloodthirsty zombies without wanting to say something about the relationship between men and women.

A few months ago, we premiered the trailer for Frankenstein Created Bikers, which had a ton of hits from fans of the upcoming film. Well, I've finally seen it, and I've got to admit that it's even more insane than the trailer lets on. Shot on 35mm after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Frankenstein is a love letter to exploitation films carved into a bullet --- and sent skyrocketing into the air after several beers on the Fourth of July at a biker rally. This exploitation-sci-fi-cult-horror film extravaganza was directed by James Bickert (it's a sequel of sorts to his flick Dear God No!) and stars Tristan Risk, Ellie Church, Jett Bryant, Laurence R. Harvey, and a cast of others. The above actors are the best of the bunch in...

The bio-pic crime drama House of Manson will release in the United States on digital and physical media on August 5th from Gravitas Ventures.
Read more about the film from the official details below.
From The Press Release
Following a successful film festival run, director Brandon Slagle's "House of Manson" - a tense crime drama based on the life of notorious criminal Charles Manson, will be making its debut on digital platforms and physical media on August 5th in the United States from Gravitas Ventures.
Previously released in the UK as "Manson", the film follows the life of Charles Manson from childhood to his arrest at Barker Ranch following his involvement in the deaths at the Tate and Labianca residences (among others) during the summer of 1969, which ultimately led to his trial and sentencing.
Charles Manson, Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Leslie Van Houten all remain incarcerated to this day.
The film stars Ryan Kiser (Dead Sea) in the title role of Charles Manson. Having previously portrayed the role in the unrelated short film "Lie" in 2009, Kiser's performance has gained accolades for his fresh take on the character, portraying him not as the ranting caricature often seen in low budget film adaptations of the story but as a flawed, human individual who also happens to be responsible for some of the most heinous acts in United States history.
Also garnering acclaim is Devanny Pinn's (The Black Dahlia Haunting) chilling portrayal of Susan Atkins, who has since died in prison of brain cancer, and Reid Warner's (Oren Peli's Area 51) harrowing and unsettling take on Charles "Tex" Watson - who now ironically runs a Christian outreach program from prison.
Rounding out the cast is Tristan Risk (American Mary) as Abigail Folger, Suzi Lorraine as Sharon Tate, as well as Serena Lorien, Erin Marie Hogan, Britt Griffith, Chriss Anglin (Supergirl), Julie Rose, and Maxine Wasa.
The film received awards and nominations from festivals all over the world including Snowdance, Canada International Film Festival, International Euro Film Festival, North Hollywood Cinefest, Action On Film, Twin Cities Film Festival, and The California Film Awards.
“House of Manson” is a riveting retelling of a bloody chapter in American crime."- Inside SoCal
"Slagle should be applauded... 4.5 out of 5 Stars" - Dread Central
"Ryan Kiser delivers a powerful performance as Manson."- Shock Till You Drop
"Devanny Pinn is outstanding as the chilling Susan Atkins" - Starburst Magazine

Director James Bickert (Dear God No!) is currently channeling the likes of Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Harvey (The Human Centipede 2, The Editor), Tristan Risk (American Mary, The Editor) and Ellie Church (Harvest Lake). Frankenstein Created Bikers was described to me as a two-and-a-half hour "exploitation epic" --- shot over 30 days in 10 cities with a cast of 70 actors. Now that's ambition! No premiere details as of this posting, but stay tuned to the film's Facebook page for news and updates. Bickert says: "I'm really proud of how we merged...

A screener for a strange indie film called Harvest Lake landed in my inbox recently, and instead of a straight review, I decided to interview the filmmakers to get more details on their bizarro opus. Harvest Lake follows four friends who go to a lakeside house to celebrate a birthday with sex, drugs, booze, a campfire, and more sex. It's not quite a horror film, not really an exploitation flick, and I'm undecided if it could be classified as science fiction. Due to its elevated score and photography, the film encapsulates all of these genres and more, with some odd surreal moments that will surprise its viewers --- with Tristan Risk (American Mary, The Editor) stealing every scene she's even --- even if those scenes include alien appendages. The film...

El Gigante is directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero and Luke Bramley, and written by Shane McKenzie. The film stars Edwin Perez, Luis Javier, Arlina Rodriguez, Alexa Marie, Mathias Retamal, Devyn Dalton, Nisreen Slim, Adelita Rockhill, Indiana Dean, and David Forts. Madre De Dios is directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero and written by Shane McKenzie and Gigi Saul Guerrero. The film stars Tristan Risk, Luis Javier, and Gabriela Zimmerman.
I have always said that it is very difficult to review short films, because you can hardly say anything about them without giving everything away. But, there are some shorts that are so good, and some short film directors who are so talented, that every once in a while I break my moratorium on writing about shorts and cover them.
Gigi Saul Guerrero is such a director, and El Gigante and Madre De Dios are two such films.

Uli Lommel’s Boogeyman, released in 1980, should have slipped under the radar of many a horror fan and it would have – had it not become entangled with the Video Nasties scare here in the UK in the early 80s. It was that “promotion” which gave Lommel’s film more notoriety than it undoubtedly should. So much so that Lommel’s film spawned Two sequels – Revenge of the Boogeyman in 1983 and Return of the Boogeyman in 1994 (well, if you can call them sequels – they reuse way too much footage to be original films).
Now, 26 years after the first film was released, Uli Lommel returns to the boogeyman well for Boogeyman Resurrection, purported to be a remake of the original film; and he has released the first trailer – which again re-uses old Boogeyman footage!!
The only positives I can see this time round is in Lommel’s choice of cast: Tristan Risk...

Harvest Lake is written and directed by Scott Schirmer and stars Ellie Church, Tristan Risk, Jason Crowe, Dan Dye and Kevin Roach. Producers include Arthur Cullipher and Brian Williams.
Harvest Lake is about a group of four horny adults who rent a cabin in the woods. Yes, this has been the setup for literally thousands of horror films, but in the case of Harvest Lake, the usual formula is thrown out for something completely different. There are strange fungi growing in these woods that have the visual and tactile qualities of human sex organs. These fungi fascinate and seduce our campers one by one, and ejaculate spoors into their faces that lower their sexual inhibitions and ultimately take over their bodies for the purpose of sex.
