You will soon be able to bring home the soundtrack for one of the best movies of 2023. The folks at Waxwork Records have teamed with Sony Music and Toho to bring the "Godzilla Minus One" soundtrack to vinyl. The double LP record will arrive in April and you can pre-order a copy now. And, as per usual, the folks at Waxwork have gone all-out for the release.
The 150-gram vinyl is beautifully colored and it comes in impressive packaging that captures the film's terrifying version of Godzilla in all of his glory. The score was composed by Naoki Sato, who was inspired by the works of Japanese animated films from Studio Ghibli for the emotional moments (as well as the work of original "Godzilla" composer Akira Ifukube's score to drive home the moments of kaiju terror). Anyone who has seen the film can attest to Sato's incredible use of the original "Godzilla" theme,...

Toho’s Godzilla Minus One has been a monster-sized success in U.S. theaters, scaring up over $50 million domestically with a worldwide total of just under $100 million.
As we recently learned, Toho is celebrating with a brand new black & white version of the movie, titled Godzilla Minus One Minus Color. It was released in theaters over in Japan earlier this month, but when will you be able to see the “minus color” version in the United States?
According to a listing on the official AMC Theatres website, Godzilla Minus One Minus Color will be getting a theatrical release here in the States on Friday, January 26, 2024!
How many theaters will it be playing in? And how long will it be playing for? We have no idea at this time, but you probably want to jump on that while you have the chance.
Update: This version will be playing for One Week Only,...

Director Takashi Yamazaki has let it be known that he would like to make a sequel to the film, which has been a box office success both in Japan and internationally. Toho is celebrating the smash hit success of their new movie Godzilla Minus One with a “minus color” version of the movie in theaters over in Japan next month, we’ve learned!
The brand new black & white version of Godzilla Minus One will open in Japanese theaters on January 12, 2024, with no word yet on a release here in the United States.
Toho’s Godzilla Minus One, written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, sees an already devastated post-World War II Japan facing a new threat in the form of Godzilla.
Yamazaki said in a new statement tonight, “We are now able to announce Godzilla-1.0/C, which we have been working on for a long time. Rather than just making it monochrome, it is a cut by cut. I had them make adjustments while making full use of various mattes, as if they were creating a new movie. What I was aiming...

(Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Movie: "Sword of the Stranger"
Where You Can Stream It: Crunchyroll, Funimation
The Pitch: It's the Sengoku period in Japan. Samurai clans are warring with each other and the Chinese Ming dynasty maintains influence over their island neighbors. The era sets the stage for this beautifully animated adventure, which plays out like "Lone Wolf and Cub" meets "Rurouni Kenshin."
An anonymous samurai is haunted by the violence he inflicted and the innocent people he killed during the Feudal wars. So, he's become a ronin, wandering Japan alone. That is until he meets young Kotaro, an orphan being pursued by Ming warriors. Kotaro's dog Tobimaru (the most adorable badass in the movie) is wounded saving Nanashi from attackers. So, the man...

A successful balance of swords and romance, Japanese samurai epic Rurouni Kenshin is well worth your time, Ryan writes...
Japanese cinema has a grand tradition of samurai movies, from Akira Kurosawa’s lauded classics like Rashomon to more recent entries like Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins. Rurouni Kenshin is a little different, however, in that it’s an action romance clearly aimed at a slightly younger audience. First published in 1994, Nobuhiro Watsuki’s original Manga was a hit among both male and female readers, resulting in successful anime adaptations, videogames, and now a live-action movie. Director Keishi Otomo adapts the story with flair, offering up a lavish period piece that’s as full of swooning romantic drama as it is katana-swinging violence.
A beautifully-staged opening battle in the mountains of Kyoto sets the scene: it’s 1868, and the forces of the Meiji government have defeated the military shogunate,...

Since my copy of Bandai Entertainment’s Us Blu-ray Disc release of Sword of the Stranger (Mukoh Hadan) arrived a few days before the official release date on June 16, here’s my short review on the disc itself. Luckily and unlike on their Ghost in the Shell: Innocence release, Bandai has decided not to use region encoding so feel free to (pre-)order, there’s no need to wait for the announced Region B release.
Bandai also does not repeat the audio track mistake from their first Bd release (lossy Dd only), as both audio tracks (original Japanese and English) on Sword of the Stranger are available in sweet and lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1 that especially shine during the grand finale and the fight scenes accompanied by Naoki Sato’s gripping score. The English subtitles are available for all dialogues or signs only which is a nice gift to fans of the English dub.
