When I wrote about a game called KeyForge a few years ago, I remember using words like “innovative” and “groundbreaking” and I also had to mention that games legendary designer; Richard Garfield. With credit for Magic: The Gathering (perhaps the most important collectible card game (Ccg) of all time) Garfield is a designer of true pedigree, and KeyForge was an AI-assisted concept that could have changed the landscape forever. As it happens, for reasons that don’t matter here, it didn’t… But clearly, the idea of using AI to assist game development is a concept that has stuck with Richard Garfield, and now he’s back with another ground-breaking new concept called SolForge Fusion.
SolForge Fusion takes the idea of semi-randomised decks which are seeded by a unique key, then printed in what the game refers to as “faction decks.” Each faction deck contains 30 cards, a Forgeborn leader, and...

While there may be many things I love about the tabletop industry, the marketer in me has always struggled with the distribution model. Since many publishers rely on crowdfunding to presell their products, promotions are often frontloaded years in advance. Many high-profile board games get expensive explainer videos and reviews before the campaign's launch; by the time the game is finally in the hands of the players, the needs of the industry have moved on.
Throw in the impact of a global pandemic and ongoing supply chain issues, and every end-of-year list is equal parts access and accomplishment. So, to take the guesswork out of this Best of 2022 list, we are borrowing a page from everyone's favorite social media oligarch and letting vox populi rule the day. As a result, our version of the Best Board Games of 2022 list will list, in order, the 22 games from 2022 that finished highest in BoardGameGeek's overall rankings.

The animated “Magic: The Gathering” series at Netflix has cast Brandon Routh in the lead role.
The announcement was made during Wizards of the Coast’s Magic Showcase 2021 stream. Plot details on the series are still being kept under wraps, but it was confirmed that Routh will voice the character Gideon Jura. It was previously announced that the show expands on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are the game’s magic-wielding heroes and villains.
In addition, it was announced that a prequel novel by Django Wexler will be released in conjunction with the series, which is slated to debut in 2022.
The novel, which hails from Del Rey Books, sees Planeswalkers Gideon Jura and Jace Beleren adventuring together as they right wrongs across the multiverse. But with very different insights into what they witness, it is safe to say that the partnership is under quite a bit of strain.

Andrew Garfield has certainly proven he has a silly side. Just check out the interview I did with him back in December and you'll know what I'm talking about. Well, now his father Richard Garfield confirms this isn't anything new. I talked to Andrew's dad as he walked the Oscars red carpet with his nominee son. "He was a complete ham," Richard recalled of Andrew's childhold. "His grandmother predicted he would go to clown college." The Silence cracked, "She was correct. She was right." Andrew insisted he didn't prepare an acceptance speech for Sunday. He was up for best actor for his work in Hacksaw Ridge, a real-life drama about a pacifist...

It's been awhile since we've posted an installment in our Tabletop Terrors series, but since we're getting a new Godzilla movie this year, it seems only right to talk about King of Tokyo from Iello Games.
King of Tokyo was designed by legendary designer Richard Garfield. He also created this little game called Magic: The Gathering. You may have heard of it.
What kind of game is KoT? Well, it has the simplest board you'll ever see. The board has two spaces on it.
Unless a whole bunch of people are playing, you'll only use one of those spaces. It also has dice and cards. Is it a dice game? A card game? A board game?
Yes!
Each player chooses a monster. These are very cleverly named to avoid all copyright infringement claims but are clearly modeled after big critters we all know and love. The giant ape is The King,...

New gaming platforms don't come along every day, so when they do they're always worth taking a look at. In 2011 years ago a small tech company, Sifteo Inc., headed up by David Merrill and Jeevan Kalanithi - two products of the MIT Media Lab, released an innovative gaming product, the Sifteo Cubes. They were a collection if small, 1.7 inch blocks with clickable LCD screens that communicated wirelessly with one another, allowing for responsive information to be passed between them, creating a system of tangible interactive objects. While they were pioneering, they we not without their limitations (requiring a computer to transmit data, a limited number of applications, hardware restrictions, etc.), but served as a great introduction of the concept for consumers and developers alike. Today Sifteo announced an updated, second generation of the Sifteo Cubes to build on the solid ground of the first generation by improving the platform in just about every way.
