PBS has renewed Miss Scarlet and The Duke for a fifth season, but the upcoming season will be without one of its stars -- Stuart Martin, aka The Duke. Due to the actor's exit, the Masterpiece series will be retitled Miss Scarlet.
Starring Martin, Kate Phillips, Ansu Kabia, Andrew Gower, and Kevin Doyle, the series follows Eliza Scarlet (Phillips) after she is left penniless when her father dies in 1882 in London. She takes over her dad's detective agency alone while working under his name. She struggles to build her reputation and frequently calls on her lifelong friend, gruff Scottland Yard detective William Wellington (Martin)

For those of you who were anticipating seeing :a[West Side Story]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/west-side-story-2021/' }'s Rachel Zegler as Disney's Snow White in the new, live-action version of the 1937 animated classic, here's a good news-bad-news situation. The first image, featuring Zegler as Snow alongside the Seven Dwarfs, has now arrived. Yet it comes on the heels of news that the studio, because of the ongoing actors' strike, will delay the release of the movie from next year to 2025.
Marc Webb is directing this new take on the fairytale, which via a script from Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson, will eschew the usual romantic subplot in favour of Snow White becoming the leader her father encouraged her to be.
Alongside Zegler, the cast includes Gal Gadot as The Evil Queen, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman and Andrew Burnap plays a new character named Jonathan.

The first look of the upcoming live-action remake of ‘Snow White’ has been unveiled. In a new image, Rachel Zegler has transformed into the iconic Disney Princess, surrounded by her Seven Dwarfs.
As of now, the film, which was originally set to open on March 22, 2024, has been delayed to March 21, 2025, reports Variety.
Zegler stars as Snow White and Gal Gadot plays The Evil Queen. Ansu Kabia co-stars as the Huntsman and Andrew Burnap plays a new character named Jonathan.
As per Variety, the Seven Dwarfs have been reimagined for the remake, and Zegler has said that this new iteration will not be as focused on the romantic subplot but instead will show Snow White becoming the leader her father encouraged her to be.

Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs certainly seems to have struck a nerve for some people, and I doubt the first-look image is going to change anyone’s mind.
The studio announced this morning that the release of Snow White had been pushed from March 22, 2024, to March 21, 2025, but they also released a new image featuring Rachel Zegler’s Snow White surrounded by the Seven Dwarfs. Unfortunately, the characters look as though they’ve been dragged from the uncanny valley kicking and screaming. Check it out below.
That’s some Polar Express shit right here. The reveal of the characters may also come as a surprise to some as Disney had implied that they would be taking a different approach with the Dwarves after Peter Dinklage slammed the remake last year.

Marc Webb, best known for helming The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, has signed on to direct the long-in-development Bermuda Triangle movie at Skydance Media.
The Bermuda Triangle is a region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft and ships have disappeared under mysterious circumstances over the centuries. The theories behind these disappearances range from plausible explanations, such as extreme weather and currents, to the paranormal, with everything from UFOs to parallel universes to technology from the lost city of Atlantis taking the blame. Plenty of possibilities for a movie.
The Bermuda Triangle movie has been in development at Skydance for quite some time, with Sam Raimi and Scott Derrickson both attached to direct the project at various points. However, it seems that the project has gone back to square one. Deadline reports the project is still in the early stages with no writer attached.

The upcoming remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is just one of the many live-action adaptations Disney has made of their animated classics, but this one seems to be hitting a nerve.
While speaking with The Telegraph, David Hale Hand, son of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs supervising director David Dodd Hand, is very much opposed to the remake. “I mean, it’s a whole different concept, and I just totally disagree with it, and I know my dad and Walt would also very much disagree with it,” Hand said. “There’s no respect for what Disney did and what my dad did… I think Walt and he would be turning in their graves.“

“Snow White” has been plagued with backlash from the beginning. First, star Rachel Zegler’s casting was criticized due to Zegler being of Latina descent. Peter Dinklage, meanwhile, called the live-action remake a “fucking backwards story” that he said was offensive to the dwarfism community. Disney later responded that the film would not be “reinforcing stereotypes” over differently abled people.
Now, the son of the director of the original 1937 animated film is saying that Walt Disney himself would disapprove of the new “woke” direction of the feature. David Hand, whose late father of the same name was the original film’s director, worked for Disney as a designer in the 1990s.

Disney’s live-action remake of 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs doesn’t come out until next year, but a culture war surrounding the film — titled Snow White — is already at full boil.
First, conservative critics took issue with casting of Latina star Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) as a character described in the original Brothers Grimm story as having “skin as white as snow,” and the production changing the formerly titular seven dwarfs into a diverse collection of magical creatures of varying sizes and genders.
Then 22-year-old Zegler caused a stir when a flurry of comments from late last year recently resurfaced that suggested she didn’t like the original film and that the new movie would take a very different approach to the iconic character.
“She’s not going to be dreaming about true love,” Zegler told Variety in September. “She’s dreaming about becoming the leader...

Stuart Martin sympathizes with fans of PBS’s Miss Scarlet and the Duke who’ve been waiting years for the title characters to admit they have feelings for each other. The Victorian era has been shaped by its men, from Sherlock Holmes to the dastardly deeds of Jack the Ripper. That’s not to say that inserting a woman into this world immediately revolutionizes the premise. In fact, there have been numerous female detectives created for the period, with the plotlines generally revolving around how strange and unusual she is for entering a man’s arena. Maybe that’s why Rachael New’s PBS mystery series, “Miss Scarlet and the Duke” feels so charming, because Being Feminist (capitalization intended) isn’t what it sets its focus on.
Eliza Scarlet’s (Kate Phillips) father was a retired detective who taught his daughter everything about detection. When he dies, Eliza is left needing to find a way to keep a roof over her head, so she decides to carry on in her father’s footsteps and become a private detective. However, the men of Scotland Yard,...
