Exclusive: In a competitive situation, Amazon Studios has landed for development Sharps, a half-hour comedy from writer Flint Wainess (In the Dark), John Hamburg (Me Time), Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment and Wendi Trilling’s TrillTV.
Written and executive produced by Wainess, Sharps revolves around 30-year-old Tyler Flynn, a nice guy with a normal job, a great girlfriend, and a secret that’s eating away at him: he’s one of the millions of Americans addicted to sports gambling. After their Oscar-winning work together on 2019 Best Picture Green Book, Amblin Partners has tapped Peter Farrelly to direct the comedy feature Super In Love.
Flint Wainess, who has had the Black List script Linda and Monica; and has written Power Couple for Comedy Central and has been a consulting producer on In the Dark, is writing the script.
Green Book won three Oscars, Farrelly notching two of those for Best Picture and Original Screenplay, with the film grossing over $320M WW.

Peter Farrelly is reteaming with Amblin Partners on the comedy movie Super In Love.
Farrelly will direct the feature after partnering with Amblin on the Oscar-winning Green Book, which earned $320 million at the global box office. Flint Wainess is penning the script for Super In Love.

Ninety-five members of the Writers Guild of America have signed a letter sent to the guild’s board of directors urging that it divest from gun companies and any companies that support the NRA.
The letter, sent to the Board Tuesday, warns “Gun violence enabled by the ready availability of military grade weapons, has become one of the biggest threats to the safety and security of the American people.” The letter continues, “We urge the WGA and the WGA Pension Plan to divest of all stocks of any gun or ammunition manufacturer, and any company that provides material support to the gun industry lobbying organization called The National Rifle Association, whether through donations, deductions or other means (e.g. Federal Express), until such time as sensible national gun reform legislation is passed.”
It is signed by 95 members of both WGA West and WGA East.

Comedy Central’s latest development slate is diverse in more ways than one.
Not only has the cable network put together several new series with performers of color at the center, but the three shows picked up Tuesday by Comedy Central are all very different.
Ordered to series are the stand-up/musical show “The New Negroes,” the comedy game show “Taskmaster” and the scripted comedy “Corporate.” In development are shows from creators including Awkwafina, Neal Brennan, Arturo Castro, Franchesca Ramsey, Noël Wells and Flint Wainess, among others.
“The network when I got here was pretty traditionally targeted toward young white guys, both in terms of who the audience was and who was creating the shows for the audience,” said Comedy Central president Kent Alterman. “We started changing that a few years ago by expanding that into having funny women on the network, with Amy Schumer and Broad City and a lot more since.

Seventy-three unproduced screenplays comprise this year’s Black List, an annual ranking of well-regarded scripts that have yet to make the leap from page to screen. More than 250 executives in the film industry voted on this year’s edition, and their consensus is that Elyse Hollander’s Madonna biopic “Blond Ambition” is the “most liked” of them.
