Norman Bates is haunted by many demons, but the one which tortures him the most is not loneliness or fear or even his questionable past. That demon is his mother.
Norma Bates (at least what remains of her) is glimpsed in the shadows of Alfred Hitchcock’s horror classic Psycho, and later heard through Norman’s own mouth. Her backstory remained a mystery until Bates Motel first aired in 2013. It reveals Norman couldn’t have possibly become Hitchcock’s iconic killer without being twisted by his mother. Now, a decade later, Norma, played to chilling perfection by Vera Farmiga, is as controlling as ever—dead or alive.
As Norman (Freddie Highmore) fumbles through adolescence, climbing out his window to meet girls and at least attempting to date, his mother does everything in her power to keep him from going through puberty. She wants to preserve him in the formaldehyde of...

Near the end of season two, A&E’s Bates Motel gave a tantalizing glimpse of teen Norman Bates experiencing the personality split integral to his later-life behavior. Since the character has already racked up a body count, the next question might be when he’ll begin wearing his mother’s clothes. In a discussion after the Bates Motel Comic-Con panel in San Diego Friday afternoon, star Freddie Highmore addressed the inevitable.
“It’s going to come at some point, isn’t it? I can see Norman sitting down in her room in front of the mirror and thinking ‘Oh,...

Though she can currently be seen on the big screen in Michael Bay’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, rising star Nicola Peltz isn’t done with television just yet. After breaking out on A&E’s excellent Bates Motel, her character departed the show early on in season two. While many fans were left disappointed, it was assumed that the actress wanted to focus on her film career and would not be returning.
In fact, we sat down with Peltz about a month ago and asked if we might ever see her back on Bates Motel. While she teased that we might, she wouldn’t confirm anything one way or another. This week, however, the actress seems to have had a change of heart.
Our very own Matt Donato landed an exclusive interview with Peltz for her new movie Affluenza and asked her about any future projects that she had in the pipeline.

Chicago – Among the Transforming machines in the fourth installment of the “Transformers” series are human actors, poised to react to the giant robot madness around them. Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor are newcomers to the series, and both are making major franchise film debuts in “Transformers: Age of Extinction.”
Peltz portrays Tessa Yeager, the daughter of Cade Yeager (Mark Walhberg), and they are both allied with the good-guy Transformer Autobots, who are the target of a government takedown. Jack Reynor is Shane Dyson, the secret boyfriend of Tessa, who also happens to be a expert race car driver, which is really handy when escaping both the emerging enemy Transformers and the government.
Nicola Peltz is also familiar to fans of “Bates Motel” on the A&E Network, portraying Bradley Martin. She was also seen in “Deck the Halls” (2006) and “The Last Airbender” (2010), and will have a role in the upcoming – and intriguingly titled “Affluenza.

For those of you who watch A&E’s excellent series Bates Motel, you were likely pretty disappointed when early on in season two, Nicola Peltz departed the show. Her character, Bradley Martin, fled town to start a new life after getting caught up in some pretty nasty stuff. Seeing as she didn’t die and simply just took off on a bus, fans were hopeful that Bradley would return to the town of White Pine Bay one day.
Though the actress is about to make her mark on the film world in a major way with the upcoming blockbuster Transformers: Age of Extinction, she doesn’t seem to be ruling out a possible return to the small screen. In a recent interview, we asked Peltz if we could expect to see Bradley Martin back on the show one day. While she didn’t give us a solid answer, she...

Some shows come along and you just can’t help being sceptical about them. Bates Motel Season 1 came with the news that it would be a “modern re-imagining” of the Psycho origin story, putting Norman and his mother in a modern-day setting with an aim of looking at the routes of just what made Norman the killer he would become.
After the death of her husband Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) and her son Norman (Freddie Highmore) move towns taking over an old motel with the aim or making it a success. With news of a new road bypassing the motel completely though and the arrival of Dylan Massett Norman’s half-brother tensions run high between the small family. With dark family secrets and the new town they live near not being the more normal of towns, it’s not long before blood is shed and the Bates family are dragged into the towns strange secrets.

Diane Haithman is a Deadline contributor. During a Bates Motel panel discussion Friday, Carlton Cuse was blunt about borrowing from a classic. No, not Hitchcock’s Psycho; TV’s Twin Peaks. “We pretty much ripped off Twin Peaks,” joked Cuse, co-executive produces the A&E series with Kerry Ehrin, in response to a question about the similarities from panel moderator Shawn Ryan. “If you wanted to get that confession, the answer is yes. I loved that show. They only did 30 episodes. Kerry and I thought we’d do the 70 that are missing.” Cuse appeared on the Paley Center panel “Inside Bates Motel: Reimagining A Cinema Icon” with Ehrin, Vera Farmiga (who portrays Norma Bates), Freddie Highmore (Norman), Max Thieriot (Norman’s half-brother Dylan), Nicola Peltz (popular teen Bradley Martin) and Nestor Carbonell (Sheriff Alex Romero). English actress Olivia Cooke, who plays Norman’s friend Emma Decody, who battles cystic fibrosis,...
