It’s a bye week for some of your favorite ABC procedurals, and Will Trent is no exception. On Tuesday, April 23, instead of a new episode of the riveting detective show, the network will air a rerun in its usual 8/7c timeslot. At that time, fans can revisit March 26’s Season 2 Episode 4, “It’s Easier to Handcuff a Human Being,” which centers on Will (Ramón Rodríguez) and Faith’s (Iantha Richardson) investigation of the “Boo Hag,” an apparent supernatural suspect in a multiple homicide case involving camping teens. It’s the second consecutive week Will Trent has been on a break; last week, on April 16, ABC reaired March 5’s Season 2 Episode 3, “You Don’t Have to Understand,” which centered on the investigation of a suspicious pastor and an attempt to save a pregnant woman from a killer. Fans will finally get a new episode of Will Trent on Tuesday, April...

When Megan Leavey joined the Marines, she was looking for a fresh start. Things at home weren’t going well — she couldn’t keep a job, and her best friend had just died. After joining the Marines, though, she wasn’t faring much better — until she ended up in the K9 unit. There, she met a snarling, growling dog named Rex — and he scared her … a lot. But over time, and throughout their tours in Iraq, they became an inseparable, life-saving duo.
Based on a true story, the 2017 film Megan Leavey is the journey of an unlikely pair and how they managed to stay together against all odds. [Warning: This post contains Major spoilers for the latest episode of Will Trent, “We Are Family.”] The latest episode of Will Trent not only reunited the titular character (Ramón Rodríguez) with a long-lost member of his family — Uncle Antonio (John Ortiz) — but the case of the day also hit home for a lot of folks in the LGBTQ+ community. In the episode, titled “We Are Family,” Will Trent and his team investigate a homicide that has taken place just outside of a dance club for drag performers. The victim turns out to be a conservative judge who just so happens to be the mother of one of the performers, Gabe Ringgold aka “Defcon Vibe” (Garrett Richmond). While video surveillance shows she had a scuffle with an extremist protestor who’d been lurking outside the building for some time, and her son confesses to the crime, it turns out that her killer is someone unexpected. The judge’s daughter ...

After the heaviness of the previous episode, Will Trent will return to heartwarming drama, levity, and humor in this upcoming installment.
The series excels at balancing both kinds of cases and character arcs, and spoilers for Will Trent Season 2 Episode 6 tease that Will will finally meet and connect with his long-lost uncle, Antonio Miranda.
Elsewhere in the episode, the Gbi and the Apd team up to solve a judge's murder, so they work together for two episodes in a row. From the spoiler photos, this case looks entertaining.
At the end of Will Trent Season 2 Episode 5, Will's Uncle Antonio reached out to him. Antonio Miranda is as curious about his nephew as Will is about him.
John Ortiz guest-stars as Antonio Miranda, who seems kind and charismatic and is eager to bond with Will.
While I'm anxious for Will to have a positive male role model, it feels like Lucy's brother got a total rewrite.

Since it premiered in January 2023, ABC's Will Trent has been a massive hit. The network just renewed the series for a third season, and the Gbi and Apd will return to solve more cases.
The renewal wasn't much of a surprise because Will Trent's ratings have risen to 4.8 million viewers and a .4 in the demo.
What makes Will Trent so intriguing to watch? Why is it different from other police procedurals? There are many reasons, but at its core are the characters.
Based on Karin Slaughter's best-selling novels, the hour-long procedural focuses on Special Agent Will Trent of the Gbi.
While no two series are the same, Will Trent is most similar to The Mentalist and Mobk, whose protagonists also see key details differently than most investigators. Adrian Monk also had a dark past, and digging into a character's past allows for more interesting storylines.

Will Trent isn’t going anywhere. ABC has decided to greenlight its engaging procedural for a third season, thanks to Season 2’s very solid ratings in its first few episodes. Per Deadline, the show recently enjoyed its highest-rated episode ever with its March 5 episode, Season 2’s “You Don’t Have to Understand.” The series received a similarly early renewal for its second season after its inaugural season was the top new drama in terms of viewers with almost 10 million. Will Trent is a police procedural with a unique twist: Its eponymous character (played by Ramon Rodriguez) has dyslexia and thus struggles to read things quickly. That hasn’t stopped him from being a most-valued member of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, though; in fact, he seems to have a unique gift of getting into the mindset of victims in order to solve the cases at hand, whether it’s a murder,...

Will Trent (Disney/Daniel Delgado) RAMÓN RODRÍGUEZ It’s one thing to take books and make them into movies, because you only need to tell one story at a time. Turning books into a TV series, however, is a little different. Since a series — especially a procedural — often requires a new story for each episode, those shows usually deviate from the source material and become something new. Will Trent originated in the pages of the novels by author Karin Slaughter, but the show, now in its second season, has taken on a life of its own. Ramón Rodríguez, who is both the star and a producer of the series, told us he feels like the show has branched out in ways that stay true to the spirit of the books, but creates new and interesting stories unique to the show. Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Will Trent (Ramon Rodriguez) started Season 2 with a case that involved a flirtation with bomb tech Cricket Dawson (Susan Kelechi Watson), who later sacrificed her life to save him and others from a deadly explosion. The shocking loss stunned and saddened Trent, but as Rodriguez says, Will is able to “compartmentalize all the things that he’s dealing with in his life.” Looks like that will be a tough order this season, not just for Will but for his colleagues in the Atlanta-set crime show. Will’s top concern is figuring out his dad’s identity. Too bad the person who thinks he should be getting a Father’s Day card is serial killer James Ulster (Greg Germann), whom Will broke down and visited in prison at the end of the season premiere. “Will doesn’t want to interact with him much, but Ulster...

ABC has made it a priority this season to turn sophomore series “Will Trent” into an established hit — and so far the strategy seems to be working. The drama’s Season 2 premiere already posted one of the Alphabet net’s most-watched scripted drama episodes among live+same day total viewers in years, at 4.77 million.
Now, after three days of viewing on ABC, Hulu and digital platforms, “Will Trent” has grown by nearly 3 million viewers, to 7.68 million. And its adults 18-49 average is up 142%, from 0.33 to 0.8.
Network execs attribute the growth to an extended plan to expose the show to audiences on multiple platforms and in various time slots. Buoyed by the show’s early signs of success in Season 1, ABC developed an awareness campaign to capitalize on that. This past summer, ABC aired reruns of “Will Trent” Season 1 on Friday nights to court the “20/20” audiences on that night. The...

Another big award show took place this weekend (in addition to the SAG Awards), the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which celebrates indie film and TV. One thing about this awards show is that their idea of independent sometimes makes me scratch my head a bit, with HBO’s big-budget The Last of Us nominated a whole bunch in the TV category, along with Netflix’s Beef and several other streaming shows, which I’m not sure one could call independent. For films, there’s a $30 million budget cap. For TV, I’m honestly not sure what the benchmark is because Last of Us was notoriously an expensive show to shoot, costing at least $100 million.
Indeed, The Last of Us won some key awards on the TV side, winning Best Supporting Performance (for Nick Offerman) and Best Breakthrough Performance (for Keivonn Montreal Woodard). Over on the film side, American Fiction and...

It's challenging to find that balance when doing a book-to-screen adaptation. While Will Trent Season 1 excelled at it, they've found an even better stride in Season 2.
We barely scratched the surface of getting to know the main characters in Will Trent Season 1.
In contrast, interpersonal connections and messy family dynamics have taken center stage in Will Trent Season 2, interwoven with an unfolding mystery about Will's past.
Delving into these characters' rich histories makes us care about them, and many fans appreciate it if it follows the novels' storylines.
Ever since James Ulster arrived on the scene on Will Trent Season 1 Episode 12, he's been a thorn in the Gbi's side. He's appeared charming while he murdered innocent women or played mind games with Will.
Even though James is a monster, he values family. Would his mind games include murdering an agent so his son would visit him in prison?
That's a tough one.
