Written by Erin Ehrlich and Michael J. Cinquemani
Directed by Steve Gainer
Airs Tuesdays at 10:30 Pm on MTV
While a breakup is undoubtedly difficult on the couple experiencing it, it can often also leave friends of the former couple in a lurch. Mutual friends often try to reconcile their personal relationships with the two individuals in a way that leaves everyone happy. With Matty and Jenna’s relationship existing in the cocoon of high school, this is even more apparent, and this week’s episode examines how their mutual friends cope and adjust to the change in their lives, in another solid episode that once again lets several characters share the spotlight.
The various reactions this episode, both to the new relationship between Jenna and Collin, and to the perceived brushing off that Jenna shows, put a strong focus...

Awkward., Season 3, Episode 5: “Indecent Exposure”
Written by Lauren Iungerich and Michael J. Cinquemani
Directed by Joe Nussbaum
Airs Tuesdays at 10 Pm on MTV
Moving in together can be a big change for a couple, no matter their age or the stage of their relationship. With Matty moving into the Hamilton household at the end of last week, the relationship between him and Jenna was bound to change as a result of being under the same roof for the first time, particularly due to the unexpected nature of the move. Whether the increased proximity would help or hurt the couples’ second go-round was the key question, and it’s one that the show tackles this week in a nuanced manner, adding another dimension to Matty while further fleshing out Mr. Hart and Jenna’s Writing Class.
It was fascinating to watch how Matty and Jenna’s...

Elena and Damon head out to the Gilbert lake house. Bonnie, Jeremy, and Shane are holed up there, and Bonnie thinks she has a way to get Jeremy past the whole “I need to kill my sister” thing. As Shane explains, Jeremy’s is a conditioned response. He sees a vampire, he must kill it (funny - his reaction isn’t as strong with any other vampire in town. Just Elena.) Shane’s idea is to recondition him to protect Elena, and to realize that he doesn’t need to act on his first instinct. He needs to stop, think, and realize he has a choice in the matter. Elena shares a warm and fuzzy memory about the Gilberts in the lake house. Jeremy...
