“Euphoria” star Austin Abrams believes his days of playing high school kids are behind him.
In an interview with IndieWire at the 2024 Sarasota Film Festival about his new fraternity hazing drama “The Line” from director Ethan Berger, Abrams, now 27, said that while he might still get some parts like that in “The Line” that place him in college, it’d be a stretch to see him playing a high schooler again.
“I can’t really do it anymore,” he told IndieWire of playing such a younger character. “Yeah, definitely. It’s just like at this point, I’m not really a service to the project anymore. I mean, I just can’t do that. College, kind of. I don’t really feel like that. But yeah.”
While he broke out as a teenager on “Euphoria,” it’s been over two years since the second season of that show ended. Now...

With Dune: Part Two and Civil War in theaters, it’s already been a great year for sci-fi, and that doesn’t even count goofball flicks like Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, or any other movies with the word “empire” in the title. Sure, it’s not all perfect. Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson, has been pulled from the release schedule and there’s no way that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release this year. But overall, 2024 has been a strong start for sci-fi movies.
Even better, 2024 isn’t even halfway done. Per tradition, Den of Geek has put together a list of the big sci-fi movies heading your way for the rest of the year. This list doesn’t include upcoming sci-fi movies without firm release dates, but it will when they are announced. It will also be updated to add any movies we may have missed,...

You might think “The Line” is simply a film about illuminating the bad behavior of college fraternities and their dangerous hazing practices. You’d be wrong. Yes, that is the subject matter in question, but in the hands of first-time feature director Ethan Berger it’s a richly drawn, slow-burn character study that suddenly becomes a breathless thriller.
There’s a pivotal scene that occurs almost two-thirds of the way into the movie that marks the moment that “The Line” becomes one of the great suspense movies in some time. It’s a hazing scene in which the worst possible traits of Greek Life pledging are actually just a cover for a battle of wills between two guys who hate each other: Frat brother Mitch (Bo Mitchell) and pledge Gettys (Austin Abrams). Mitch is all “Animal House” bluster but deeply insecure — with a wealthy businessman father played by an imposing...

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th. With the film’s release date just a couple months away, it was no surprise to hear that Paramount was promoting it at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Those in attendance for the Paramount panel today were shown an extended trailer for the film – and JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek was there to tell us what he saw!
Lance sent in the following description of the trailer: “Set in New York. Lupita Nyong’o looks up to see the aliens shooting down to earth as everyone in the city looks at what seems to be meteors raining down. Everything goes wild, chaos in the streets, everyone is getting attacked/killed as Nyong’o hides under a truck. A man tries to hide with her,...

For a film in the “Quiet Place” universe, the decibel level was near deafening at the film’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday in Las Vegas.
John Krasinski’s horror franchise is now in its third outing, the latest being a prequel of sorts starring Lupita Nyong’o and titled “A Quiet Place: Day One.” The film takes viewers back to the inciting incident, when faceless alien beasts invaded the planet and revealed an extreme sensitivity to sound — using it to track and find terrified humans and, well, kill them.
Nyong’o and costar Joseph Quinn (breakout star of the last season of “Stranger Things”) teed up an extended version of a “Day One” trailer released earlier this year. Given that sound is how the creatures find the unassuming citizens of earth, it plays a major role in the craft of the film. An unintended sneeze is as deadly as a sonic boom in this world,...

Paramount’s A Quiet Place: Day One is getting ready to bring chills to audiences.
Stars Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn on Thursday introduced extended footage of the prequel to movie theater owners gathered in Las Vegas this week for CinemaCon, where they are being briefed by Hollywood studios on their upcoming slates (the footage won’t be shared outside the room, since the movie is close to opening and there have been numerous trailers already).
The event spinoff pic is a cornerstone of Paramount’s slate, and hopes to be another win for the innovative horror franchise created by John Krasinski that turned into a major hit after successfully proving that original stories can work on a large, commercial scale.

Former Nickelodeon star Allie Dimeco recently posted a TikTok video in which she claimed she was once forced to kiss an older male on the set of “The Naked Brothers Band,” in which she starred as Rosalina. The series, created by Polly Draper, used the mockumentary format and starred Nat Wolff and Alex Wolff as fictionalized members of a family rock band. Rosalina was Nat’s love interest on the show, but their relationship hit a speed bump in Season 3 when she had a quick fling with a French man (Jake Hertzog).
Dimeco told her followers that she had been “stressed” while watching “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” the buzzy ID Discovery documentary about abuse allegations at Nickelodeon, and said “I went through trauma” of her own during her time at Nickelodeon.

Following the premiere of Investigation Discovery’s Quiet on Set, a docuseries that exposes the disturbing behind-the-scenes environments of various TV shows at Nickelodeon, The Naked Brothers Band alum Allie Dimeco has shared her own experience on the set of the show, which aired from 2007-09.
In the musical mockumentary series starring Nat and Alex Wolff as fictionalized versions of themselves, Dimeco played the former’s love interest, Rosalina. During the third season, Dimeco’s character, who is a teenager, has a short-lived romance with a French man named Michel (played by Jake Hertzog). In a scene of the two-part episode “Naked Idol,” he kisses her in front of Nat, causing Rosalina’s temporary exit from the band.

In the first few minutes of his first Zoom casting call with actor Alex Wolff, Oystein Karlsen knew he had found his Leonard Cohen.
“He came on the screen like this,” the Norwegian director and screenwriter puts his hand over his face, with one eye poking out. “He said: ‘Sorry, I’m so hung over. I know I’m not going to get the role. I feel horrible.’ I thought: That’s Leonard!”
Karlsen already had his eye on Wolff to play the famously melancholic Canadian singer-songwriter in his new TV miniseries about Cohen and Marianne Ihlen, his great love, muse and the woman who inspired the song that gives the series its title: So Long, Marianne.
Alex Wolff as Leonard Cohen and Thea Sofie Loch Ness as Marianne Ihlen in So Long, Marianne.

“’I sacrificed my love on the altars of fame,’ Leonard Cohen said in the ‘70s,” “So Long, Marianne” showrunner Øystein Karlsen notes. Cohen was referring of course to his ‘60s decade-long relationship with Norway’s Marianne Ilhen, which shaped him for life.
One of the highest-profile and most anticipated world premieres in Series Mania main competition, “So Long, Marianne” is a coming of age love story which, in a quietly innovative, genre-breaking turn, asks whether the place in the world chosen by one character, Leonard Cohen, was always for his good.
Sold by Cineflix Rights as an eight-part series, “So Long, Marianne” begins in 1959 focusing on Norway’s Marianne Ilhen and Cohen’s love idyll on Hydra, a Greek island, which Ilhen reaches as the partner of budding Norwegian novelist Axel Jensen, and Cohen looking to find a place where, he says in Episode 1, he “can take responsibility for my own identity.

Leonard Cohen had a huge impact on generations of fans, and So Long, Marianne star Alex Wolff is one of them.
Speaking exclusively to Deadline ahead of So Long‘s worldwide premiere at Series Mania this week, Oppenheimer and Hereditary actor Wolff paid tribute to the late singer-songwriter. “His contribution to my life has been so substantial that whatever words I have don’t sum up what he’s meant to my working life and to me personally,” he said.
Wolff, who is himself a musician and recording artist, plays Cohen in So Long, Marianne, which is one of the buzziest international series at Series Mania, which is Europe’s largest scripted television festival. The Nrk and Crave series is the International Competition category against the likes of Peacock’s Apples Never Fall and the ABC’s House of Gods.

Hayden Panettiere of Heroes, Scream 4, and Scream VI shares the screen with Tyler James Williams of Everybody Hates Chris, Abbott Elementary, and The Walking Dead in the thriller Amber Alert. Deadline reports that Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film, which flew under the radar as it made its way through production and is now in post-production.
Amber Alert was directed by Kerry Bellessa, who also wrote the screenplay with Joshua Oram. Bellessa’s previous credits include the 2022 horror film Immanence and a 2012 thriller that was also called Amber Alert… so apparently this is a reimagining of Bellessa’s previous film. A catchy nickname for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer crew has emerged during awards season: the Oppenhomies. During his acceptance speech for best actor at Saturday’s SAG Awards, Cillian Murphy made sure to give credit where it’s due by revealing the specific Oppenhomie who came up with it.
“Just an Fyi on that exquisite moniker, Oppenhomies, that was actually invented by the great Olivia Thirlby,” Murphy said of the actress who plays Lilli Hornig in Nolan’s epic about American scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the events surrounding the creation of the atomic bomb. “So Olivia, I think you should immediately trademark that and start merching the shit out of it because someone else will.”
Murphy then got serious by calling his peers “the greatest group of actors I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.” It’s a long and impressive list, too, that includes Emily Blunt,...

Such has been the chaos in international TV over the past 12 months that you could argue Cineflix Rights’ Head of Scripted, James Durie, is underplaying things when he says it has been “a hell of a year.”
Distributors around the world have watched on in horror as the streaming sector crumbled and the crashing TV ad market decimated budgets at commercial nets everywhere, not to mention the license fee woes being experienced by the likes of the BBC. Redundancies, cost saving and restructuring took hold, and the likes of Paramount, Disney+ and Prime Video have cut back on international originals, in some cases brutally culling non-u.S. shows.
In recent months, international scripted projects from countries such as the UK, Canada and Australia that would have been viable options for the U.S. streamers have suddenly been seen as big gambles. The sense that co-production agreements with streamers could be struck faded into dust,...

Exclusive: Lionsgate has acquired world rights to under-the-radar thriller Amber Alert, which will star Golden Globe nominee Hayden Panettiere (Scream VI). Golden Globe winner Tyler James Williams (Abbott Elementary) co-stars.
In Amber Alert, which is in post-production, an ordinary ride share becomes a high-stakes game of cat and mouse. The story will follow Jaq (Hayden Panettiere) who is eager to get to her first day at a new job, and her driver, Shane (Tyler James Williams), who is just trying to earn a little extra at his side hustle. An alert of a child abduction on their phones will change all that when they discover they are behind a car that matches the description of the kidnapper’s. Unable to let a possible child trafficker escape, they begin a pursuit that will put their own lives at risk.

Oppenheimer costume designer Ellen Mirojnick took audiences back to the 1940s with her two- and three-piece suits worn by Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer and the other scientists on the Manhattan Project. But the fashion in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic also stayed impressively timeless, which Mirojnick reveals was one of the director’s early requests.
“One of Chris’ first notes was, although we’re traveling through many different periods, can we find a way to make it accessible to a modern audience?” Mirojnick tells THR, adding that she studied the varied silhouettes of different time periods in her research.
Coupled with Murphy’s undisclosed weight loss for the role, Oppenheimer’s look is fashioned after David Bowie’s Thin White Duke era, that “’70s American life,” says Mirojnick. “His exaggerated silhouette at that time was Cillian’s first entrée into Oppenheimer. We looked at the images [of Bowie] and went,...

“Oppenheimer” is now in pole position to have a big night at the Academy Awards after it won a lucky seven times at the BAFTA Awards. This hit Universal film claimed Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. plus Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score. Many of these winners headed backstage after getting their hands on the golden gongs. Here’s the best of what they had to say.
Nolan, who also shared in the Best Picture win with his wife Emma Thomas and Charles Roven, emphasized how touching it is that his film has received such attention and acclaim. “It’s a nihilistic subject. The film, inevitably, reflects that. The recognition this film has received and to see so many people that I’ve worked with be recognized is very, very enthralling, particularly the crew and our cast.

The synopsis for A Quiet Place: Day 1 is short but sweet: “Experience the day the world went quiet.” The official trailer reveals the day of the attack, showing scenes of the aliens arriving from space and the beginning of humans starting to understand the creatures are attracted to noise.
The prequel focuses on new characters played by Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou.
Unlike A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part 2, John Krasinski isn’t in the director’s chair and didn’t write the screenplay. Instead, Michael Sarnoski takes over as writer and director. However, the plot is based on Krasinski and Sarnoski’s original idea and is part of Krasinski’s plan to expand the A Quiet Place universe.
Krasinski, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller serve as producers. Executive producers include Allyson Seeger and Vicki Dee Rock.

The trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One, due out June 28, features Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Djimon Hounsou, and an adorable white-and-black cat who are all fighting to survive a global catastrophe. Like the previous Quiet Place films, Day One presents a postapocalyptic world where making the slightest sound summons bloodthirsty alien creatures hellbent on destruction. The twist this time is that it focuses solely on “the day the world went silent,” as the movie’s official synopsis puts it, beginning with shots of a noisy New York City.

The prequel’s teaser opens to Nyong’o walking peacefully with a cat in her arms when a nearby crash signals the first horrific moments of blind, monster-like aliens crashing to Earth and hunting down anything that makes a sound.
A Quiet Place: Day One diverges from worlds of A Quiet Place 1 and Part II in following Nyong’o as she navigates a New York City in which aliens run amok and terrified people run for cover amid apocalyptic devastation.

New Yorkers minding their own business when aliens attack from the sky? That sounds like a Cloverfield! Well, the first Cloverfield from 2008, anyway.
The teaser for the film promised hip New York teens filming themselves during an alien invasion. Between the Escape from New York homage and the name “J.J. Abrams” — better known at the time for Alias and Lost instead of Star Trek Into Darkness or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker — the Cloverfield trailer created a buzz that concealed the finished product from director Matt Reeves and writer Drew Goddard.
Cloverfield left viewers hungry for a sequel that further developed the world, and Paramount was quick to acquiesce. But instead of giving fans another found footage chronicle of the central monster’s attack on New York, Abrams’s production company Bad Robot retrofitted a project called The Cellar into 10 Cloverfield Lane, directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Josh Campbell,...

Paramount has releasing the official trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One, a spin-off prequel to John Krasinski’s 2018 and 2020 apocalyptic horror films.
Premiering in theaters June 28th, A Quiet Place: Day One shows us “why the world went quiet.” Naturally, there’s no dialogue in the trailer — aside from a “shh” — but we do see snippets of Lupita Nyong’o and Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn going about their regular lives in Manhattan before all hell breaks loose.
A Quiet Place: Day One was directed and written by Michael Sarnoski, with Krasinski stepping back into a producer role this time around. The new film welcomes new cast members Alex Wolff and Denis O’Hare, and brings back Djimon Hounsou, who starred as the nameless “man on the island” in A Quiet Place Part II.

"Discover why our world went quiet." Paramount Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for the sci-fi prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, arriving in theaters this June in the middle of the summer. After the first two A Quiet Place movies (from 2018 & 2020), they've decided to go big and make the prequel - setting it in New York City when the alien creatures first arrive and wreak havoc. (There's also a A Quiet Place III sequel in the works). There are no plot details revealed, but this trailer gives us a first look at what's going down. Lupita Nyong'o stars as a woman named Sam in NYC caught up in the mayhem. "As everything quickly goes to hell, she’s thrown together with a man named Eric. With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together." And yes, she has a cat she brings along, and its name is Frodo.

"A Quiet Place" had a fairly simple premise. The Abbott family (which includes John Krasinski and Emily Blunt) struggles to survive in a ravaged post-apocalyptic world swarming with blind extraterrestrials with a heightened sense of hearing, making near-silence crucial to the fates of everyone involved. A singular, accidental sound could spell death for anyone, leading to heartbreaking circumstances amid a horrifying situation.
The success of the first film snowballed into a sequel, appropriately titled "A Quiet Place Part II," which continues the family's journey while also granting us flashbacks to how the aliens descended on Earth and wreaked absolute havoc. But how did it all start, and what was it like to experience day one of this horror for anyone other than the Abbotts? The answer lies in the first official trailer for "A Quiet Place: Day One," which dramatizes the events by offering distinct perspectives within a familiar story.

The trailer for “A Quiet Place: Day One” has been released, marking the latest installment in the post-apocalyptic horror franchise spawned from 2018’s “A Quiet Place.”
As the title suggests, the film will explore the beginning of the invasion in which deadly alien creatures with hyper-sonic hearing arrive on Earth.
The original film and its direct follow-up were helmed by “The Office” and “Jack Ryan” alum John Krasinski, but Michael Sarnoski directs the upcoming third installment. “A Quiet Place Part II’s” cold open showed Lee and the rest of the Abbott family navigating the chaos of the first day of the invasion in their quaint suburban town. The prequel “Day One,...

The sci-fi horror A Quiet Place franchise is heading to New York with its latest entry, A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to reach theatres on June 28th – but cast member Alex Wolff (Hereditary) doesn’t think the film should be categorized as a sci-fi horror movie. During a red carpet chat with Discussing Film, Wolff said A Quiet Place: Day One is more like an expensive drama.
Wolff told Discussing Film, “That’s not a horror movie, not really. I might get in trouble for saying that. It’s the director of Pig, this film I did, so it’s very… it’s more a drama. It’s weird going from a two million dollar movie (Pig) to, like, a hundred million dollar movie (A Quiet Place: Day One), though, and working in the same proximity, there’s only about four or five characters in it. Paramount is taking us back to A Quiet Place with the upcoming prequel movie A Quiet Place: Day One, which is set to expand the universe of John Krasinski’s hit horror franchise.
But is this new franchise spinoff a horror movie at all?
In a new red carpet interview shared by Discussing Film this week (watch below), Day One star Alex Wolff (Hereditary) describes the upcoming prequel as a large scale drama.
Wolff explains, “That’s not a horror movie. Not really. It’s more a drama.”
The actor notes in the interview that there are “only about four or five characters in it,” and that the budget for A Quiet Place: Day One is somewhere in the ballpark of $100 million.
It’s likely that Wolff means the new movie focuses a bit more on drama than creature feature mayhem, not that there won’t be any monster carnage at all.
