According to controversial new biography "The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House," Michelle and Barack Obama were headed for divorce in 2000, and friends thought the future president might be suicidal.
The New York Post reports that, per the book out Tuesday (May 15), Barack decided to challenge Democratic Congressman Bobby Rush in a Chicago primary in 2000 -- against Michelle's wishes. Barack was then beaten in a 2-to-1 landslide.
"Amateur" author Edward Klein writes, "During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood for sympathy ... He had refused to listen to her warnings about taking on" Rush. The primary also reportedly left the Obamas in debt.
"Michelle actually had divorce papers drawn up," Klein writes, citing one of Michelle's friends. "Obama was so depressed that some of his friends worried that he was suicidal."
The White House, however, dismisses Klein's work as pure fiction.

The tragic shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin has led to a public outcry for justice, which many feel has not yet begun to be served.
George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old who claims he shot Martin in self-defense, has yet to be arrested or charged with a crime. Demonstrators have taken to the streets, lawmakers have protested on Capitol Hill and even President Obama has spoken out in support of Martin and his family.
The hip-hop community has also been vocal about the delicate matter, which has overwhelming racial implications. "It's something very near and dear to me, because my son is around his age," Young Jeezy told MTV News last week. "He looks like an innocent kid. I understand...

What to do with all this data is a question that has plagued privacy advocates and stumped government officials. But solutions are coming from companies like Mozilla: Its Firefox browser boasts 400 million users, and has become a powerful leveraging tool. Recently, Mozilla launched "Do Not Track," a tool that gives consumers some control over how much data they're willing to share with third parities; other browsers such as Google Chrome and Microsoft's...
