Studio Ghibli have been in a bit of a lull since the announcement of flag-bearing director Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement back in 2014. That sad news, however, did reveal a silver lining in 2017 when it was announced that the legendary director would come out of retirement to make a new film. Not much has since been heard regarding the prolific animation studio since, but the initial couple months of 2020 have been brimming with news about them and their future. Here, we break down everything that’s been announced regarding Studio Ghibli so far this year.
First up, the news of Studio Ghibli’s catalogue coming to Netflix across the world filled fans all round with joy. Several of the Studio’s films are often considered among the best of not just animation but cinema in general, and fans had been waiting with bated breath for them to hit the world’s biggest streaming platform.

Like all great stories, the Skywalker Saga must come to an end.
After eight films and 42 years, Lucasfilm’s crown jewel reaches its triumphant endgame with the aptly-titled Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. And it’s about to unleash the space battle to end all space battles.
Truth be told, last night’s trailer contained more than a dozen shots good enough to leave the Star Wars faithful rooted to the edge of their seats – C-3Po’s farewell (?), the Star Destroyer emerging through a frozen sheet of ice, Rey and Kylo Ren dueling atop the wreckage of the Death Star… you name it. It’s no wonder advanced ticket sales are outpacing even Avengers: Endgame; this is the grand finale to a saga which began in 1977, and brings with it a fanbase spanning generations.

September 18th is definitely a phan-tastic day to be a genre lover, as we’re finally getting individual Blu-ray releases for both Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead and Phantasm IV: Oblivion this week, courtesy of Well Go USA. Cult director Teruo Ishii presents a nightmarish, hallucinogenic tale drawn from the fevered imagination of Japan’s celebrated pioneer ofero-guro (“erotic grotesque”) literature, Edogawa Rampo.
Medical student Hirosuke Hitomi slips out of the asylum in which he has been wrongfully confined and stealthily assumes the identity of a recently deceased nobleman with whom he bears an uncanny resemblance. Hirosuke eases his way into the nobleman’s household and his dead double’s marital bed. But as long-repressed memories begin to bubble to the surface, he soon finds himself drawn to a remote isle where he is confronted by a mad scientist and his malformed men, and discovers the key that will unlock some long-suppressed mysteries of his own.

It’s still a little strange seeing the Millennium Falcon all shiny and new(ish) in the promotional material for Solo: A Star Wars Story. After all, this is the craft that was a ‘heap of junk’ in A New Hope and consigned to the scrap heap as a relic in The Force Awakens. But we’d better get used to it, as it seems that the craft – one of the most recognizable fictional spaceships ever – is set to play a big role in the upcoming movie.

For those of you who plan on seeing Star Wars: The Last Jedi in IMAX, this is a poster print that you will receive at those screenings at AMC theaters. The art was created by artist Dan Mumford and this is the first in the series of four posters that will be released.
There seems to be a lot of Star Wars fans avoiding everything they can for The Last Jedi because they don't want anything spoiled for them. The thing is, Director Rian Johnson Will Not allow certain plot elements of the film to be spoiled.
In the new trailer for the film, it seemed there were a lot of big reveals, but in reality that's all probably just clever editing to throw us off the scent of what is really happening in the story.
During a recent interview with Yahoo, Johnson assured fans that there are no spoilers...

Still reeling from Lucasfilm’s first full trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi? We wouldn’t blame you.
The Internet almost ground to a halt during the halftime interval of Espn’s Monday Night Football, when the Powers That Be showcased the next chapter in the storied Skywalker saga. Placing a laser focus on Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), whose paths may intertwine in an unexpected way come December, The Last Jedi‘s official trailer dialed the action up to 11, and the Star Wars faithful continue to run over the footage with a fine-tooth comb in the search for new story clues.
From Snoke’s ominous praise to a disillusioned Rey, who may be a lot closer to the dark side than initially feared, there’s no shortage of questions to keep us up at night, and until those answers arise, IMAX has gone ahead and...

We're approaching the ten year anniversary of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, and considering the seemingly endless popularity of that film in particular and the character of Batman in general, it doesn't strike me as odd that Bottleneck Gallery has released two new posters celebrating the movie. It was an instant classic upon its release, and in an era stuffed with superhero movies, it still stands as one of the best ever made.
Artist Dan Mumford has crafted these posters in honor of the movie, but unfortunately they've both sold out at this point. Oh well — it's The Dark Knight, so I imagine it'll never be long until another poster comes down the pike. [Insert "it's the poster we need, but not the one we deserve" joke here.]...

This four-feature set is the weirdest cinematic treasure box of the year, a sort of anti-matter film school. Three of the films are derived from a single Yugoslavian picture rejected by Roger Corman. His acolytes Jack Hill and Stephanie Rothman proceeded to add serial killings, supernatural hauntings, a goofy vampire, and an ending that could be called 'Zombies In The Wax Museum.' Tim Lucas tells the whole story in a fascinating feature-length extra docu. Blood Bath Blu-ray Arrow Video (USA) 1963 - 1966 / B&W / 1:66 widescreen / 95 - 81 - 62 - 75 min. / 2-Disc Limited Edition / Street Date May 30, 2016 / 49.95 Starring William Campbell, Patrick Magee, Rade Marcovic, Miha Baloh, Irena Prosen; Marissa Mathes, Linda Saunders, Sandra Knight, Carl Schanzer, Biff Elliot, Sid Haig, Jonathan Haze. Crawford’s artwork is also available on baseball tees and 18×24 screen-printed posters. The standard poster is limited to 175, and the red variant is limited to 50 with a glow-in-the-dark layer.

“Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover” is a proverb whose simple existence proves the fact impressionable souls will do so without fail. This monthly column focuses on the film industry’s willingness to capitalize on this truth, releasing one-sheets to serve as not representations of what audiences are to expect, but as propaganda to fill seats. Oftentimes they fail miserably.
Dust your awards season Bingo cards out because the season is in full swing and we have the festival favorites hitting multiplexes to prove it. That’s not saying there isn’t also an Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel entitled The Road Chip (December 18) for its inexplicably loyal fanbase or a repairing of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in Daddy’s Home (December 25) for those ignoring the Academy pomp and circumstance. We’d just rather pretend those two were pushed to January to free up more screens.

“I cannot say enough about how Bob Iger and Alan Horn have understood this thing that is now part of the Disney company. And they’re not trying to Disney-fy it, they’re not doing anything other than, I think, an incredibly smart thing, which is letting Kathleen Kennedy — who is a remarkable person and producer — run and lead Lucasfilm to a place where I think it wants to go. They let us make the movie we wanted to make,” director J.J. Abrams said earlier this month during a one-hour talk (watch below in full), also confirming he has final cut on Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
While that final cut, clocking in at two hours and 16 minutes, is still just under two months away, today brings a new preview. Disney have now released the final trailer for the film, initially premiering on Monday Night Football, along with tickets available worldwide — that is,...
