Starting in March, when the Covid-19 crisis flattened the livelihoods of many in the music business, Bandcamp has held a monthly holiday in which it waives its full revenue share on all sales. The idea was an immediate hit. Bandcamp Friday, which falls on June 5th this month, has successfully directed millions of fans’ dollars to the artists who rely on income from merch and music to pay their bills at a time of acute economic distress.

Bob's Burgers plans to release a compilation on the indie label Sub Pop in May. In addition to songs from regular cast members, the collection will include contributions from an assortment of indie rockers – St. Vincent, the National, Stephin Merritt – and notable comedic actors: Aziz Ansari, who voices a character on the show, Paul Rudd and more.
The Bob's Burgers Music Album covers a lot of ground: according to the iTunes store, the record contains 112 songs in total. Most of these are less than a minute long; one is just 16 seconds.

Before its third season's finale, we had the Bob's Burgers writing staff rank the series' best songs. No fan was surprised with the top choice: "Electric Love" from the season-three episode "Topsy." It tells the story of Thomas Edison's love for his elephant Topsy, which eventually lead to Topsy being electrocuted. The song is super great. Not just for a cartoon, but for music in general, what with its multipart harmony and soaring vocals from Megan Mullally and Kevin Kline. It also features the best lyric ever: "They'll say, 'Aww Topsy' at my autopsy." This makes it perfect for the second installment in the "Bob's Buskers" series, in which great artists cover one of the show's songs and then the show's animators animate it. We previously featured St. Vincent covering "Bad Girls Theme," and now we have the Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt, with the help of Kiki and Herb...

A new year, a new crop of pop culture to consume. Sure, "The Hunger Games" is gonna be huge, and yep, Madonna will definitely make a splash with her follow-up to “Hard Candy.” But here’s the second part of my list of 12 releases that I’m personally shaking and crying over in 2012. Welcome to my brain, internet!
5. “Jesus Christ Superstar” on Broadway
No disrespect to my Sunday school teachers, but everything I retained from the Bible I learned from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera. What’s the buzz? Well, the creator himself (as in Mr. Webber, not … uh … the big guy upstairs) said that this particular production, which originated in Ontario, is “the best acted version of the show [he’s] seen in 40 years.” In other words, everything’s alright, yes. Everything’s fine. (Previews begin March 1, opening March 22; Jim plans on rocking “Heaven On Their Minds” at his karaoke...

“Our Hit Parade” is a monthly New York City staple show hosted by Kenny Mellman, Bridget Everett, and Neal Medlyn, where artists gather and recreate the current Top 10 songs on the charts. And while each singer brings something unique to the table with their performance, nothing could possibly match the heights of cuteness that this video reaches. Here is a little boy named Tenzin singing Adele’s “Someone Like You” while sprawled across a piano like The Fabulous Baby Boys. We know poor Adele has been battling some throat problems, so perhaps Tenzin can be her miniature replacement until the Diva herself recovers… Til then, you will love this. Between this kid and the baby dressed up like Wilson, my costume tonight might be “Getting Pregnant Behind The Middle School.” (via The Beastie Boys Blog)...
