Mark, Aaron and Eric Ford begin a month of horror with the micro-budget cult classic, Carnival of Souls. We talk about what makes this such an enduring classic that has held up over time, the bizarre story about how it was made, its influences and what it has influenced, and what type of artistic aims the filmmakers tried to reach.
About the film:
A young woman in a small Kansas town survives a drag race accident, then agrees to take a job as a church organist in Salt Lake City. En route, she is haunted by a bizarre apparition that compels her toward an abandoned lakeside pavilion. Made by industrial filmmakers on a small budget, the eerily effective B-movie classic Carnival of Souls was intended to have “the look of a Bergman and the feel of a Cocteau”—and, with its strikingly used locations and spooky organ score, it succeeds.

Zachary Quinto is getting pretty hot in Star Trek 2, judging from the latest image shot during filming. No, the above pic isn’t the new one. You have to hit the jump because it’s a little spoilery.
Still with me? Cool… although that might not be the best word for Spock’s situation because the Vulcan is suited up in a special volcano suit so his green blood doesn’t overheat and boil out of his pointy, little ears.

So, while a tight lid is being kept on the details for the Star Trek sequel, we do know that Spock gets into a fight and that he ends up doing a little volcano-diving. I don’t know about you but I think we might be seeing who the star of the new Enterprise crew is, and he doesn’t wear a gold shirt.

Smart money says Zachary Quinto will live long and prosper as Spock for many a "Star Trek" movie to come. But failing his role as the world's most famous Vulcan (well, second to Leonard Nimoy), I think he'd do a pretty solid job as Robert Downey Jr.'s successor to the "Iron Man" franchise."
Photo by Eric Ford/On Location News
In the set photo seen above, Quinto is armored head-to-toe in a big, red metal suit that wouldn't be out of place in Tony Stark's wardrobe. But Quinto isn't auditioning for a role in the hugely popular Marvel franchise. Instead, it's him in character for "Star Trek 2," snapped on the set in what's described as a stunt scene involving a volcano.
Along with On Location News' photo of Quinto in costume is the following description:

I'm not usually one to post unofficial set photos from an upcoming movie, but in this case, I felt it was worth making an exception. Back in January it was announced that Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) had been cast as the main villain in J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek sequel. However, at the time, there was no information available about his character or how he might fit into the story. Now this week a whole slew of photos from the set of the movie have leaked online, and they give us our first glimpse at Cumberbatch in character. It's still unclear who he is supposed to be, but he definitely does not seem to resemble Khan. One of the photos also has an IMAX camera in it, confirming the fact that at least some scenes will be shot in IMAX this time around. If you don't want to know anything...

"Star Trek 2" is shrouded in secrecy. We don't have an official title, we don't know the plot, and we don't know who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing — though all signs point to a villain, especially in light of a new set photo that's just arrived at our door step.
In this first look at director J.J. Abrams' currently shooting "Star Trek" sequel, we see quite clearly that Zachary Quinto's returning Spock and the newcomer played by Cumberbatch are very much not friends. The two are locked in battle on top of what's being described as "a Space Barge set."
During the battle and in the photo you can see here, Spock does his best to stop his foe using his famous Vulcan Death Grip, but the move fails; Cumberbatch's character is able to overpower the grip and regain the upper hand in his struggle against the Star Fleet officer.

Before Eminem could make the heart-wrenching "Space Bound" a hit single, the song's producer, Jim Jonsin, had to rework the track, which he had previously recorded with British songwriter Steve McEwan.
"It was actually a full song with verses, b-section, chorus," Jonsin told MTV News of the original Eminem-less version.
"Me and Steve McEwan actually wrote the song, we actually did it here in New York on guitar — it was just a guitar vocal on an iPhone," the multiplatinum producer said. "We took the idea later in Miami, like three months after, and produced the track, and we sent it out to Eminem to see what he thought about it. He loved it. So...

There have been quite a few takes on the meaning of Eminem's "Space Bound" video, in which we see two sides of a suicidal, love-torn rapper. Since the clip hit iTunes on Friday, fans have taken to comment sections dishing out theories about its meaning. Some have said this is another depiction of Em's relationship with ex-wife Kim Mathers, while others likened the clip to a video game. And Eminem's co-star in the video, Sasha Grey, has her own take on the video.
Grey, a former adult-film star, is now expanding her acting chops. She appeared, as did Em, on the seventh season of HBO's hit series "Entourage," and though the two never met on set,...

Just when we thought Eminem had fully escaped his demons following the release of his multiplatinum 2010 album Recovery, Marshall Mathers takes his own life with a single gunshot to the head in his new "Space Bound" video, which is now available on iTunes.
The video is a gut-wrenching look into another of Eminem's tumultuous relationships, much like the one exhibited in the video for "Love the Way You Lie" — this time with deadly results.
Filmed in Los Angeles in February, the Joseph Kahn-directed clip starts with our leading man walking down a foggy road in the middle of the night. Obviously perturbed, a sullen Em marches on, hands in his pockets, until a passing car picks him up.

Leonardo DiCaprio rides along on a old fashioned bicycle in this new photo from the set of J. Edgar. DiCaprio plays the intriguing J. Edgar Hoover, the FBI director who was in charge during the investigation of the Lindburgh baby. He's was also rumored to be a closeted cross-dresser.
With a star like Leo and a director like Clint Eastwood, this film is bound for huge success - perhaps Oscar success?
MTV Movie News got their hands on this exclusive photo courtesy of Eric Ford (On Location News).
If you look closely you can even see Eastwood in the background.
Naomi Watts co-stars as Hoover's secretary, Helen Gandy, and Armie Hammer stars as Tyde Dolson, the man rumored to be Hoover's secret lover.

We're getting excited for "J. Edgar." Really excited. Not only does the controversial FBI director have one of the most intriguing stories to tell of any recent historical figure, but just look at the talent lined up for this film: Clint Eastwood directing, Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, actors like Armie Hammer and Naomi Watts among the supporting cast… without having seen a single shred of footage or set photography, we're already hooked.

Over the last few months, we've seen plenty of photos and video from set of Sony's "Spider-Man" reboot, including some footage of Spider-Man swinging through traffic, and a nice look at Spider-Man's new costume in motion. Today, we have another pair of photos for you, and you're going to want to take a very close look at both of them.
Taken on the Los Angeles set of the film, the two photos depict a stunt sequence in which Spider-Man vaults over a car to tackle, flip, and subdue a character in a black jacket (as only a spider can).
But here's the kicker: Take a close look at the car behind Spider-Man and the black-jacketed combatant. Don't see anything? How about in the back seat of the car?

Just last week, we brought you some cool (albeit blurry) photos of Spidey in action on the Los Angeles set of director Marc Webb‘s, as yet Unititled Spider-Man Reboot. Now, some new photos of Ol’ Webhead have hit the [ahem] web, of the Marvel hero sprinting down the street in full costume.
They give you a pretty good look at the costume from head-to-toe, and there are close-ups of both the mask and the web-shooters on the insides of his wrists. While we don’t know for sure, we’re assuming that this is the stunt costume, as opposed to the “hero” costume that will be seen in closer, more intimate shots of the webslinger in the film.
Check them out below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

All this week we've seen photos and footage from the Los Angeles set of Sony's upcoming reboot of the "Spider-Man" movie franchise. And while it's always fun to analyze blurry, occasionally confusing shots of the film and its web-slinging hero in action, it's even better when we get a nice, clean shot of the ol' wall-crawler to scrutinize.
For example, this new photo from the set of the film:
Yes, that's a brand new photo of Spider-Man in action while filming a scene in Marc Webb's upcoming reboot — and there are at least two very interesting elements of the image that caught my eye right away.

The new photos — different from the ones that hit the Internet earlier Tuesday (November 2) — show Ke$ha in a look reminiscent of Rihanna's post-apocalyptic getup in Jay-z's "Run This Town" video, with the pop star rocking ripped-up leggings and a one-piece bodysuit covered in shattered glass.

And if there’s anything more noteworthy about the photos than the disappointing absence of Carlos — or Mike Tyson’s cinnamon-loving tiger — it’s star Zach Galifianakis’ fashion … and the fact that I’ve realized it’s nearly impossible to differentiate any of the actor’s many characters based solely on wardrobe. Look to your right: Can you guess which character Galifianakis is playing in each photo? Answer after the jump!

You've got to hand it to Katy Perry: She's really hitting on all cylinders these days. "California Gurls," the first single from her album Teenage Dream, was the official anthem of the first half of summer, a fun and flirty song that probably served as the soundtrack to your various beachfront flings. And now, she's back with the album's title track — and second single — which will undoubtedly serve as the soundtrack to one of those flings blossoming. She's got you covered every step of the way ... it's sorta brilliant, really.
Both "Teenage Dream" and its accompanying video are about falling madly in love, about losing your inhibitions and getting jelly-kneed by the mere...

In honor of the buzz surrounding Megan Fox's performance in Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" video — in which she portrays one-half of a couple in an abusive relationship alongside "Lost" and "Lord of the Rings" actor Dominic Monaghan — we at MTV News, having a certain level of expertise in this arena, got to thinking about other Hollywood actresses who have recently burned up the screens as music-video vixens.
What makes a video vixen? For this list, the qualifications are relatively simple: must be a recognizable Hollywood actress and be featured as a focal point of a band or bandmember's attention or the star of the clip's story line. In no particular order,...

After much anticipation, the Joseph Kahn-directed video for Eminem and Rihanna's chart-topping "Love the Way You Lie" debuted Thursday (August 4) on MTV. In the song, Em and Rihanna tell the intense story of a woman who stays with her male counterpart despite his violent habits. The video shows Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan engaging in a relationship that's similarly emotionally destructive.
Kahn, who has worked with everyone from Janet Jackson to Rob Zombie, has a particular directing style that emphasizes CGI special effects and futuristic styling. Here are a few other highlights from his career.
Britney Spears, "Toxic"
In the 2004 clip for Spears' flashy "Toxic," the pop princess played an assassin on a quest to poison her cheating boyfriend.

The shocking images of domestic violence in the new Eminem/Rihanna video for "Love the Way You Lie" have sparked a heated debate online about the depiction of an abusive relationship in a music video. And though Slim Shady has chronicled his contentious relationship with twice-ex-wife Kim Mathers throughout his career, the "Lie" video is certainly not the first time the topic has been dealt with in a video.
The clip for Ashanti's 2003 song "Rain on Me" also depicted the seesaw battle between intense love and physical violence, as the singer moved from hugging and holding hands with her video boo to using makeup to cover the bruises and scars after their altercations. Similarly, Ludacris' collabo...

Directed by Joseph Kahn (who has worked with Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, 50 Cent and many other superstars), the video was recently filmed in L.A. and features Rihanna, who sings the hook, along with actors Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan. Despite the photos that leaked online last week of Fox and Monaghan happily locking lips, they play "a couple going through the extremes of an abusive relationship" — a sensitive subject matter for Em and Rihanna.

When Eminem approached Rihanna to be featured on "Love the Way You Lie," she felt a powerful connection with the track. The singer, whose domestic violence tribulations with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown played out in front of the world, sat down with "Access Hollywood" to talk about her decision to collaborate with Eminem.
"It's something that, you know, [Eminem and I have] both experienced, you know, on different sides, different ends of the table," she said.
"It just was authentic. It was real," Rihanna continued. "It was believable for us to do a record like that, but it was also something that needed to be done and the way he did it was so clever.

Rumor that Megan Fox will be playing a leading lady opposite Dominic Monaghan in Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" music video is not fabricated. On July 23, a day before Joseph Kahn announced he has done "director's edit" of the clip, Eric Ford of On Location News caught the "Jennifer's Body" beauty and the "Lost" hunk shooting their part together.
The stars are pictured sharing some Vodka and a passionate kiss while sitting on lawn chairs on the rooftop of a Liquor store in a gritty Los Angeles neighborhood. They also filmed a scene inside the liquor store as well as inside a seedy dive bar next door. "An injury of some kind" is seen visible on Fox's elbow which is speculated to be "fake and [made] for her character."
The music video is expected to be debuted sometime this week with Eminem and Rihanna already filming their performance scene last week.

"The 'SNL' performance was sort of a preview of the video," Ke$ha told MTV News on Saturday at the Bamboozle festival. "So, if you didn't like that ... I don't know what to tell you."
And while that seems to be in keeping with Ke$ha's new "f--- the cynics" motto, a whole lot of body paint and laser beams don't exactly sound like a fully fleshed-out video. So...

Recently, photos of Ke$ha prancing around the desert for her "Your Love Is My Drug" video hit the Web and fans immediately began to wonder what the singer had planned for the clip. MTV News got a few details from the singer herself — who performed the song, as well as "Tik Tok," on "Saturday Night Live" last weekend — about the sexy video.
"In my video for 'Your Love Is My Drug,' it has a lot of animals in it, so that's exciting 'cause I'm a huge animal lover and I get to actually, like, hang out and ride and perform with animals,...

Ke$ha is gearing up to tour with Rihanna this summer, but not before taking time out to shoot the third video from her Animal album, "Your Love Is My Drug." The clip was filmed on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and features Ke$ha hanging out in the California desert.
The video reportedly "follows Ke$ha on a fun journey through an animated world" and was shot in Lancaster, California. In it, Ke$ha is seen dancing and performing near sand dunes while wearing a khaki-colored bathing suit; she's also seen wrapped in what appears to be a fishing net.
While she was all by her lonesome during the sunset scenes, once the sun went down, she...

Gaga says her epic video is more about B than it is about her.

Lady Gaga and Beyoncé on the set of the "Telephone" video
Photo: Eric Ford/ On Location News
Lady Gaga said that when she joined forces with Beyoncé for the latter's "Video Phone" clip, she wanted to "pay tribute" to the Destiny's Child alumna by stripping down to look more like the "Bootylicious" superstar.
Well, for the pair's most recent collaboration, B certainly returned the favor (and some!) by entering Gaga's world for "Telephone."
Gaga went as far as to suggest that the new video is more about "Honey Bee" than herself and claimed that Beyoncé is her "vehicle" for changing the idea of what a visual product can be.
"The video in a lot of ways is more about [Beyoncé] even than it is about me," Gaga told L.A.'s Power 106 radio station after the premiere.
