Exclusive: Chudor House Productions and Artist International Group are teaming on a series adaptation of Truth is a Flightless Bird, the internationally bestselling crime novel from Akbar Hussain.
Banshee‘s Adam Targum will serve as showrunner for the drama, with Odiri Iwuji at Chudor House and Aleksey Ageyev at Artist International Group producing. NneNne Iwuji (African Queens: Njinga) is set to co-write alongside Targum and will serve as an executive producer.
Set between Kenya and the U.S., Truth is a Flightless Bird is a brutal love letter to the frontier town that is present-day Nairobi: a studied observation of the failure of bare-knuckled capitalism, the inequality machines our cities have become, and — ultimately — the profoundly irrational human capacity to hope, to risk everything in order to have something in which to believe.
“Truth is a profoundly authentic deep dive of a universally fractured society,” said Targum of the book,...

Spoiler Alert: The following story contains details from the series finale of NCIS: New Orleans.
On Monday, NCIS: New Orleans came to the end of its seventh and final season, going out on a celebratory note.
The series finale, titled “Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler,” picks up with Pride (Scott Bakula) on the eve of his wedding to Rita (his real-life wife Chelsea Field), as he continues to dig into an attack on his half brother Jimmy (Jason Alan Carvell) and Connor (Drew Scheid), the son he’s only recently come to know.
Initially, it seems like the attack came from one of his mother Sasha’s (Callie Thorne) many enemies. It ultimately comes out, though, that Sasha had the attack staged, so that she could take Connor into Witness Protection, without Pride intervening. While it looks for a moment like Connor is going to skip town with his mother,...

To finally free itself of Les Moonves’ shadow, ViacomCBS needed to bring in some fresh blood. And in George Cheeks, who was named CEO of CBS on Friday, they found it in Viacom’s past. A year and a half after Moonves was forced to resign from CBS, which he led for the better part of two decades, Cheeks offers CBS a chance to completely distance itself from its former CEO and the cultural problems that persisted during, and after, his reign. “NCIS: New Orleans” showrunner Brad Kern was fired by CBS TV Studios shortly after Ianniello took over, following a third misconduct investigation; a few months later, executive producer Adam Targum was also let go after an Hr complaint and investigation. While Ianniello did well in a tough spot, having to navigate the company through a messy departure of its CEO and an upcoming corporate merger, his proximity to...

Once again we find ourselves nearing the end of another year full of plot twists, disappointments, and pleasant surprises. Take Jussie Smollett for example: He began the year as a well-respected actor on a popular TV show. But then came the threatening letter mailed to him at Fox, and the alleged racist and homophobic attack. For a moment, the entire internet rallied around him — and then the police investigation turned against him. He lost his spot on “Empire” and was indicted on 16 felony counts including filing a false police report, only to have the charges against him suddenly dropped. And all that happened before May.
Yeah, it’s been a long year.

Women writers, producers and assistants across Twitter turned the hashtag #NotWorthLess into a trend Wednesday, shining a light on issues of pay inequality in the entertainment business. Sparked by screenwriter Adele Lim’s recent decision to walk away from the “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel in protest of being paid less than her male co-writer, dozens of writers shared their own pay-inequity stories. Two of those writers spoke with Variety at length about their experiences.
Ashley Gable served as a co-executive producer and then executive producer on CBS’ “The Mentalist,” produced by Warner Bros. Television, for four years between 2008 and 2012. As her three-year contract neared an end, she was earning $25,000 per episode. Then she discovered that she was being paid about two-thirds of the $40,000 per episode that her male counterparts were making, each of whom had joined the show after her.

CBS has picked up both of its “NCIS” spinoffs for next season.
For “NCIS: La,” the renewal gives it an 11th season. The pickup for “New Orleans” comes after the show lost an executive producer and its showrunner. The network renewed the flagship, “NCIS” earlier this month.
Former “New Orleans” showrunner Brad Kern was fired in October after the start of a third Hr investigation into misconduct. He had twice previously been investigated internally at the studio, but for the third investigation, spurred by further reports of harassment and verbally abusive behavior toward women, CBS brought in outside counsel.

If you want proof that Warrior gets better and better each week, look no further than this episode.
This Warrior review contains spoilers.
Warrior Episode 3
Okay. Now this is more like it.
Can’t say I have many sharply tongued criticisms about Warrior this week. Can't say I want to find any, either. “John Chinaman” is a well-written hour of television that is less preoccupied with shock value and more focused on telling a meaningful story by defining its characters. Adam Targum, credited writer for this episode, did a fantastic job at making Warrior's odds, ends, and misfits gel together here.
“What, no love for Jonathan Tropper’s efforts the past two weeks?” you ask. Of course there is! Let's give him some props, shall we? Mr. Tropper set the stage well for Warrior’s ongoing conflicts in the pilot and its follow-up. He introduced us to certain characters in unforgettable ways.

In the aftermath of a 2018 that saw CBS embroiled in multiple sexual harassment scandals, including its chief executive Leslie Moonves, “The Neighborhood” star Cedric the Entertainer said cast, crew and executives all had “group seminars” reiterating appropriate behavior.
“We had the group seminars where we come in, and we have the professionals that come in, and kinda reiterate the behavior, words, people and things that [they] may have, through [their own] behavior, didn’t even know that it could be over the top,” the actor told TV critics in Pasadena on Wednesday. “We try to address that, and make sure that, on our set, that it’s reiterated at all times.”
Cedric the Entertainer’s comments came a day after news that CBS fired “NCIS: New Orleans” executive producer Adam Targum, following an Hr complaint and investigation.

The CBS drama NCIS: New Orleans has lost its second executive producer in less than four months. Deadline has confirmed that Adam Targum has left the spinoff series whose former showrunner Brad Kern was fired by CBS TV Studios in October.
Vulture reports tonight that Targum, who joined the show less than a year ago, was fired on Friday.
Kern stepped down in May as Ep and showrunner of NCIS: New Orleans amid reports from 2017 of sexual harassment, discrimination against women and making racially charged comments. He had remained as a consultant on the show until being let go last year.
Vulture cites multiple sources as saying the workplace culture on the set had not improved under Christopher Silber, who was promoted to showrunner last year. One of its sources is quoted as saying the atmosphere this season is “miserable,” citing in part Targum’s alleged demeaning words, aggressive disposition and combative leadership style.

High school, according to TV and movies, is either the best or worst thing that can happen to a person. It’s almost always depicted as the most fun a kid can have, or a horrifying hellhole from which there’s no escape. “Deadly Class” is decidedly in the latter camp — and despite its edgy attempts otherwise, doesn’t particularly find a new way to show it.
Adapted from Rick Remender’s comic book series and produced by the Russo brothers, “Deadly Class” travels back to 1987 to tell the unlucky story of Marcus (Benjamin Wadsworth), an orphan who gets recruited out of homelessness to enroll in the King’s Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts. Headed up by the exacting Master Lin (Benedict Wong), King’s is like Hogwarts, if Hogwarts was brimming over with snarling teens training to become vicious assassins. Another big-swing Syfy drama has changed showrunners ahead of its debut.
Deadly Class, based on the Image Comics graphic novel of the same name, has replaced showrunner Adam Targum with Mick Betancourt ahead of the show's premiere.
Targum served as showrunner on the drama, a co-production between Sony Pictures Television Studios and Universal Cable Productions, from its development through pilot. The drama was picked up to series with Targum (Banshee) still attached. He has now parted ways with the series after creative differences with Syfy, sources say.

The cogs on the TV adaptation of the much-loved Deadly Class comic have started moving again, over at Syfy...
Rick Remender and Wes Craig's Deadly Class, which was announced as being under development for television at the last San Diego Comic Con by Marvel golden boys the Russo brothers, has been optioned to pilot by Syfy, according to a report in Deadline.
The comic, which follows a group of teenagers as they attend a high school for assassins and make their way through San Francisco's late '80s punk scene, has been published by Image Comics since 2014. The book focuses on Marcus Lopez, a homeless Nicaraguan teen who gets recruited for the school. His first decision as a student is to kill Ronald Reagan, and that's somehow the least bad decision he makes in the entire book.
The newly-ordered pilot will be written by Remender and Miles Feldstott.

Groundswell Productions has scored the rights to Greg Rucka's Eisner Award-winning fantasy cop comic title "Black Magick" with plans to develop a TV drama series adaptation for cable or streaming services.
The comic follows Rowan Black, a robbery-homicide detective in the fictional port city of Portsmouth. She is also the latest in a long line of witches stretching back for millennia.
Mysterious murders draw Rowan into an investigation where the lines between her two lives continue to erode, where she is left with no choice but to harness her powers to preserve a future for all humanity.
Meanwhile "Captain America" sequels directors Joe and Anthony Russo are teaming with author Rick Remender on a TV series adaptation of his and Miles Feldsott's comic title "Deadly Class".
The unlikely coming-of-age story is set against the backdrop of late 1980s counter culture which follows a disillusioned teen recruited into a storied high school for assassins.

A review of the Banshee series finale, and thoughts on the final season as a whole, coming up just as soon as I see my daughter off to college... "Banshee, Pennsylvania... suck my tit." -Job Well, that was much more like it, and not a minute too soon. For the show that was Cinemax's first real original drama (Strike Back was a co-production, continuing a pre-existing UK series), Banshee got a somewhat shabby send-off year. Two fewer episodes, a new production base, and an altered budget all guaranteed that the final season wasn't going to feel quite like the ones before it. When I moderated a discussion with the cast at the aTVfest earlier this spring, writer/producer Adam Targum said that one of the reasons for the time jump was to lean into the fact that everything was going to be so different after the move from North Carolina to Pittsburgh.

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 6 – “We Were All Someone Else Yesterday”
Written by Adam Targum
Directed by Oc Madsen
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
A question that doesn’t neatly fit into any of the five stages of grief under the Kubler-Ross model (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) is “What could I have done differently?” There are certainly elements of denial and bargaining within that, but the question on its own isn’t any one kind of reaction to losing someone; if anything, it comes from curiosity or doubt. Banshee has asked the question before. Season two’s “The Truth About Unicorns” asked how life might have been different if Carrie and Hood had had their planned future together. And like that episode, “We Were All Someone Else Yesterday” represents an alternate timeline of events through its black-and-white lens.
There are so many different questions Hood can ask himself that result in Siobhan living.

When it comes to episodic television, no one expects any show to simply be the best. If such objectivity existed, there would be no point in watching anything but the single best series out there.
