Eddie Vedder has accepted the All In Challenge to raise money for Covid-19 relief efforts, offering a special Pearl Jam concert “birthday package” that includes opportunity to join the band on stage and more.
Vedder was nominated for the challenge by actress Laura Dern, and in a video offered a detailed breakdown of what the prize package would include. 4:05 Pm Pt -- Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein announced late Wednesday the team has identified the fan and banned him from Wrigley Field for life. "We've made clear how egregious and unacceptable that behavior is, and there's no place for it in our society, in baseball and certainly no place in Wrigley Field," Epstein said. The Chicago Cubs are trying to find -- and possibly Ban -- a fan who flashed a...

Apparently concert documentaries are having a bit of a moment. Between the recent release of the Criterion Collection DVD and Blu-ray of Murray Lerner’s Festival and the theatrical run of films like May It Last, the last month or so has seen a number of concert documentaries thrust back into the spotlight. Hell, even the rarely seen Prince documentary Sign O’ The Times recently got a new lease on life thanks to a streaming debut thanks to Showtime. All of this is to say that fans of music-centric documentaries are in the middle of a brief golden age.
The latest addition to this list of documentaries chronicling a band, a performance or a series of performances is Let’s Play Two: Pearl Jam Live At Wrigley Field. As the title would have you believe, the film shines a light on two vastly different worlds, rock music and professional baseball.

It’s been about nine months since the Chicago Cubs were named the 2016 Major League Baseball World Series winners — and local hospitals are noticing a spike in births.
Just last week, Advocate Health Care in Illinois honored the arrival of the aptly named “World Series Babies” all born this summer.
“We calculated nine months after the World Series. We thought these little ones would be coming,” Mary Terry, the Women and Infants Service Line manager at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois, tells People. “We were waiting for them.”
She adds, “We’ve kept having more and more. It’s unbelievable!

It’s been a stellar week for celebrity commencement speeches. So far we’ve seen the likes of Will Ferrell at USC, Helen Mirren at Tulane, Theo Epstein at Yale, and yesterday we were treated to Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard. Of these four I still think that Theo Epstein delivered the best one. However, it’s tough to deny that any sage advice coming from Mark Zuckerberg is the kind you should be taking. But even though Mark Zuckerberg, Harvard’s most famous dropout other than Bill Gates was standing at the podium, it was another older, wiser, and other worldly guy on the

If you don’t know who Theo Epstein is then you probably don’t follow sports and that’s Ok. He’s currently the President of Operations for the Chicago Cubs and is widely considered to be one of the best builders of baseball teams in Mlb history. He rose to prominence as the General Manager of the Boston Red Sox where he helped architect teams that would go on to win 2 championships and reach the play offs nearly every year he was the Gm. Last year as everyone knows, the Chicago Cubs won the world series. Guess who was responsible for building

The world champion Chicago Cubs visited the White House on Monday, following a Twitter invitation extended by the president back in November after the team cinched the big win against the Cleveland Indians.
Though typically a White Sox fan, Obama welcomed the first Cubs team to win the World Series in 108 years with open arms, joking during his livestream speech, "It took you long enough!"
"Even I was not crazy enough to suggest that, during these eight years, we would see the Cubs win the World Series," he continued, before mentioning First Lady Michelle Obama's longtime fandom. "Flotus is a lifelong Cubs fan."

Chicago Cubs fans cried with happiness – and Cleveland Indian fans from broken hearts – when the team broke a 108-year drought and the curse of a smelly goat to win the World Series Game 7 victory that will go down in baseball history. Amid the celebrations, diehard Cubs fan Bill Murray cried, chugged champagne … and drunkenly interviewed Cubs general manager Theo Epstein in the locker room. The world appeared to stop to honor “The Greatest” when Muhammad Ali died on June 3 at age 74. President Obama, former President Bill Clinton, Billy Crystal and Bryant Gumbel were among those who paid...

If Bill Murray could make Groundhog Day a reality, he'd probably use it to relive Wednesday night again and again.
And why wouldn't he? The 70-year-old actor's beloved Chicago Cubs ended a 108-year World Series drought, until Wednesday night the longest in Major League Baseball history -- by defeating the Cleveland Indians (who interestingly, now hold the distinction of most seasons without a World Series victory) 8-7 in the 10th inning of Game 7.

Schur wasn’t the only one. NBC brought in several screens to show the game – which meant that even NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt found himself watching Fox (which telecast the game) at his own party. But Greenblatt is a native of nearby Rockford, Ill., so he was rooting for the Cubs – as were most of the attendees gathered at Neuehouse Hollywood.

Chicago – One of the specialities of HollywoodChicago.com is the film and personality interview. The majority of these chats came through me, Patrick McDonald, and I couldn’t narrow it down to a top 10 or even a top 20. For 2014, there were 25 top interviews, and it is a diverse range of voices.
It is a privilege to get the opportunity to participate in the promotional tours, awards ceremonies, film festivals, book appearances, phoners and other lucky happenstances that feature the notable among us. To whittle down the list, I mostly thought about what was said in these interviews, whether inspirational or provocative – plus the status of the participants, whether they are up-and-coming or established.
The interview highlights are broken down by “Background and Behind-the-Scenes” and the “Memorable Quote” associated with each subject, and are often accompanied with exclusive photography by Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com. Four notables who just missed the...

Chicago – With the 2014 Major League All-Star game coming up next week on July 15th, that break is a time to reflect on the current season and your favorite team. At the “Hot Stove Cool Music” event in Chicago on June 20th, HollywoodChicago.com got in the All-Star spirit by talking with the President of Baseball Operations for the Chicago Cubs, Theo Epstein, plus baseball writer and former Espn commentator, Peter Gammons.
Hot Stove Cool Music was co-founded by Peter Gammons in 2000, and began in Boston. Theo Epstein and his family charity organization, “Foundation to Be Named Later” partnered with the event shortly thereafter, and in total it has raised more than $5.5 million dollars, creating positive opportunities for disadvantaged children and families. Cub Charities was also a co-sponsor of the night, which featured Gammons, Epstein and other Chicago talents rocking on the Cabaret Metro stage in Wrigleyville, about one block from the Chicago Cubs home base,...

The Major League Baseball season is underway and like normal, every pontificator who screamed from the mountain tops about how the season was going to go are now burning every recording device in their office. Baseball is an amazing sport, extremely difficult in many ways and a great reward for the patient. The difficulty necessitates a grueling 162 game season so that the best teams can advance to the post season, making it a certainty that the two teams that survive the process are in fact the best two teams that year. However, the same thing that makes Baseball a great sport can also be seen as something of a negative, they play 162 games!
Admittedly it’s hard to stay engaged around game 50, by early June even the Philly Fanatic is simply Phil the Reasonably Enthusiastic. To help you keep tabs on the long season let’s take a look at...

It started just over a year ago. On September 1st 2011, the Boston Red Sox finished off their three-game series with their bitter rivals and Al East foes the New York Yankees knowing that whilst a defeat wasn’t a good thing, they would be leaving Beantown atop of the division regardless of the result. Nobody could have predicted then what fate awaited them less than a month later. After all, the Red Sox seemingly had the foundations in place for another tilt at the World Series, with many in the media tipping them to win it all and Espn analyst Bobby Valentine even going so far as to predict they’d “score 1,000 runs” on the season. Led by the best manager in the game, Terry Francona, and overseen by boy genius Gm Theo Epstein, life seemed pretty good for the Red Sox and their fans. That’s what made the events that followed so extraordinary.

The Chicago Cubs are among the worst teams in baseball this year. They are a team in full rebuild mode, and they look be be major sellers come the trade deadline. But with Cubs fans being Cubs fans, attendance at Wrigley Field is still very good.
They seem to have bought into the hope for the future from president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer. And that future got a little brighter today with the deal for 20 year old Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.
The Cubs won a bidding war against the White Sox, the Yankees, and the Red Sox, to name a few. Soler was signed to a reported $30 million, 9 year guaranteed contract with an opt out clause once he’s arbitration eligible. He’s viewed as a sure thing by many baseball scouts. The legit five tool prospect goes 6’4″ and 225 pounds, and with any luck...

Four years ago, a company that was a curious hybrid of old and new made a statement of sorts when it picked up a buzz drama about South African gangsters that had just played the Toronto Film Festival.
"Tsotsi," one of the company's first movies, went on to win a foreign-language Oscar and become one of the highest-earning non-English movies for the year (while its director went on to helm "X-Men" tentpoles). For its acquirer and distributor, a reconfigured Miramax run by Daniel Battsek, an exec imported from Disney's Buena Vista office in London, the release portended what the division would come to excel at: filmmaking chops, tastemaker appeal and surprising boxoffice muscle, though muscle with sometimes limited range.
Gavin Hood's movie also hung on in theaters for nearly five months, a far longer run than many anticipated.
Whether the same could be said of Miramax is a matter for debate.
