North Carolina Rep. Robert Pittenger has issued an apology after saying protesters in Charlotte "hate white people" for being successful. "I apologize to those I offended and hope we can bring peace and calm to Charlotte," Pittenger, 68, wrote in a string of tweets on Thursday. The tweets come after Pittenger spoke out about the protests that have erupted in Charlotte following the shooting of an African-American man, Keith Lamont Scott, in an interview with BBC. "The grievance in the [protesters'] mind - the animus, the anger - they hate white people because white people are successful and they're not," he told the publication.
