Jamesy Boy is an unconvincing portrait of a teen’s fall into a pit of crime and his eventual redemption that comes with time served in the pen, for two reasons. First, a formulaic script from Lane Shadgett and Trevor White puts its delinquent protagonist, James Burns, into a lot of questionable situations that seem engineered to ruin the character and forecast his eventual downfall – although they makes precious little sense. Second, newcomer Spencer Lofranco looks dazed and confused as Burns, although he also looks too squeaky clean and model cute to pass as a tormented teenage thug. Although it is based on a true story (of the film’s co-producer), Jamesy Boy is definitely not a genuine representation of Burns’ troubled past.
Shadgett and White’s script spends a lot of time filling in Burns’ backstory with exposition and the first 10 minutes of Jamesy Boy go through the difficult...

James Woods is et to be on the big screen again, joining the cast of the aptly named Jamesy Boy alongside Ving Rhames and Mary –Louise Parker. Woods is quite busy at the moment as he has also signed on for The Stone Pony and may even be directing a project called An American Girl. Jamesy Boy is centred around James Burns a member of a street gang that finds himself locked up. Once inside he forms an unlikely relationship with a fellow inmate and reformed murderer who helps him see life from a fresh perspective. It has not been revealed yet which roles Woods and Ving Rhames are playing but the central character Burns is being played by relative newcomer Spencer LoFranco. The movie which is being directed by Trevor White gets ready for shooting in March, Incidentally, Trevor White also co-wrote the screenplay with Lane Shadgett and oversees...

First-time feature director Trevor White has rounded up a strong cast for his debut Jamesy Boy. THR reveals Mary-Louise Parker, Ving Rhames, and James Woods have signed on, which speaks well for the script, penned by White and Lane Shadgett. Based on the true story of James Burns, Jamesy Boy follows the suburban teen's trajectory from small town Colorado gangs to a maximum security prison packed with hardened criminals. In this hostile surrounding Burns unexpectedly discovers a kinship with a convicted murderer, who ultimately becomes a friend and mentor to the young man, spurring him to positive personal change. Rhames is set to play the murderer turned mentor, with Woods portraying a detention center authority figure and Parker playing the boy's mother. But who will be Jamesy Boy? That weighty role has been awarded to newcomer Spencer Lofranco, who will be making his screen debut with this film. While that's...

Seeing as he’s only making a directorial debut with Jamesy Boy, Trevor White can count himself as a very luck man. According to Deadline, Mary-Louise Parker, James Woods, and Ving Rhames have all signed for the indie drama, written by the director and Lane Shadgett.
With Boy, things are told from the perspective of a young man, James (Spencer Lofranco), who “goes from suburban street gangs to a maximum-security prison surrounded by hardened criminals,” but soon “fosters an unlikely friendship with a convicted murderer who ends up becoming his mentor and ultimately defines and changes the course of his life.” THR gives a little more insight in the casting realm, noting that Parker will play the boy’s mother; Rhames, his mentor; and Woods has the part of “an authority figure at a detention center.” (The description for a James Woods character if I’ve ever heard one.) Not a bad collection of players,...

I'm now halfway through Lionsgate's After Dark Horrorfest III box and I must say, so far I'm impressed with this year's offerings. However, we received the box a little too late to craft in-depth reviews of each film by Monday so I decided to take a shorter look at each film in two big mega-posts.
Continue on to read mini-reviews of The Broken, Perkins 14, Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations and Dying Breed.

There's a piece of grindhouse-inspired key art floating around the web for the After Dark original horror film Perkins 14 . As we've come to learn, it's by no means finished product. "The below art was the piece selected by the Massify audience as the winner of our contest," explains our After Dark rep. "However, the MPAA did not approve it so we are tweaking it according to their comments. So that will not be the official key art at the end of the day." Perkins 14 was developed by the online community at Massify.com. The idea, submitted by Jeremy Donaldson and written by Lane Shadgett, follows Robert Perkins, who at age six, becomes mentally unstable when his parents are brutally murdered inside their home. His psychosis has him living the rest of his...
