David Tennant reveals his final words as Doctor Who

12 November 2009 2:26 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

The Next Doctor Who special, The Waters of Mars, airs on BBC1 this Sunday as we head towards David Tennant's dramatic regeneration into the 11th Time Lord, Matt Smith.

That will happen in The End of Time, Tennant's final adventure in the role. It's in two parts, the first on December 25, the second on or around New Year's Day.

But Tennant says shooting his final scenes as the Time Lord weren't as emotional as he'd expected.

Due to his various appearances being filmed out of sequence from their TV transmission, Tennant's last day as the Doctor was actually spent on the set of the spin-off series, The Sarah Jane Adventures, which has already been broadcast.

"The last line I said as the Doctor is half-way through an episode and it's: 'You two, with me, spit spot'.

"They were the last words I uttered in the suit, so I guess »

Doctor Who David Tennant takes over radio show and will sell off his bed

11 November 2009 8:58 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

When David Tennant filmed his last Doctor Who, he thought he might have seen the last of the Tardis.

But as he stepped in as a guest radio host today, he was "gobsmacked" to find himself in another dimension.

Staff at Absolute Radio - where he is co-presenting the Breakfast Show with Christian O'Connell - had transformed the studio into a time machine for his arrival.

Tennant, whose four-year tenure on the sci-fi hit series comes to an end in the new year, arrived at the radio station in central London this morning to find the front door painted blue and bearing a lit-up Police Box sign with a flashing blue light.

The actor said he was "gobsmacked, flattered and humbled" by the efforts to help him "settle in" but added: "I thought I'd seen the last of that b***** Tardis."

However, the star swiftly took claim of the show, »

2 November 2009 12:54 AM, PST | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

David Tennant has admitted to feeling jealous about the upcoming experience of Matt Smith on Doctor Who. Smith replaces Tennant as The Doctor in the next series of the show after three final specials before the end of the year. Tennant told BBC Newsbeat: "I'm really excited for him but I remember how exciting it was starting out on this kind of a journey - and nervewracking and a bit overwhelming but just such a kick. "So I'm jealous he's going through that now, but [it's] brilliant and it couldn't happen to a nicer chap." He (more) »

Against a backdrop of Waters of Mars airdates and a sad David Tennant, Steven Moffat has hailed new Doctor Who Matt Smith as the best yet! (Of course, he would say that - he picked him!) Steven Moffat proclaimed Matt Smith as "the best" and described him as resembling a "drunken giraffe". "He's all the things you'd expect, including ancient," he revealed, describing the new Doctor as "someone you can't take your eyes off". Speaking at the 2009... »

The interior of the Matt Smith era Tardis has been spotted - on location! Whilst filming Doctor Who recently, the new police box design was snapped by a fan with a Tardis interior backdrop hanging within, giving a few clues as to the overall design of the time machines interior. Following the Doctor's regeneration we can already expect to see a new exterior design for the famous police box, drawing on aspects of the very first Tardis exterior from 1963. More Doctor Who tidbits

23 October 2009 6:03 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Prepare for some spoilers. Don't say I didn't warn you. By the way, Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor (or the 12th, depending on how they spin David Tennant's extraneous regeneration) in case you didn't know.

Actually, it's not that bad. From an article posted on The Doctor Who News Page, it is learned that his new companion, Amy, is a police officer. In a few photos, he also seems to be wearing the remnants of Tennant's outfit. From the description, the Doctor is probably going through some post-regenerative trauma. When has the Doctor ever regenerated without trauma? Never, I think.

I know they film out of order, but it feels odd to know already what his outfit is going to look like. Here is one other possible minor spoiler: in the scenes filmed, the Sonic Screwdriver gets destroyed (and Matt Smith was slightly injured in the process). Between »

Doctor Who’s Tardis Gets an Upgrade!

22 October 2009 1:38 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Fans of the Gallifreyan traveler can add one more thing to the long list of changes we can expect on the new series of Doctor Who premiering in 2010, as one surreptitious fan caught a glimpse of the Tardis on location in a churchyard. And while it doesn’t appear to actually be bigger on the inside, there’s something different about our favorite time-traveling police box. Luckily, the furtive fan also brought along a camera so I don’t have to describe it (because I’m horrible at descriptions).

“There are lights and stairs.”

See!

While you’re not able to distinguish everything that’s been changed by looking at the photos, you can tell that they’ve added these small platforms that ascend to another level. Oh yeah, I think they’re called stairs (See! Bad description once again). If you look closely, you can see that they’ve »

David Tennant has travelled through time to top a list of the U.K's most popular Doctor Who stars in the sci-fi show's 46 year history.

The Scottish actor has played the Time Lord in the cult BBC series since 2005, taking over from acclaimed star Christopher Ecclestone.

And his five-year run, which ends in 2010 when newcomer Matt Smith takes over, is the viewers' favourite - he won almost 26 per cent of votes from readers of Doctor Who magazine.

Tennant says, "I am so proud of this."

Other actors to have played the famous character include Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. There have been 11 incarnations of the Doctor, including Smith, since the show first aired in 1963. »

There have been a lot of Doctor Who location snaps published across the web recently, many of which are pretty dull and unrevealing. However this particular set of snaps reveals a rare Tardis manouevre that we haven't seen in years! In a scene straight out of classic Doctor Who adventure Castrovalva, the Eleventh Doctor's Tardis has been snapped lying on its back, suggesting a crash landing for the time machine in Matt Smith's first adventure. According to reports, both the old David... »

If you weren't already aware, Eleventh Doctor Who actor Matt Smith has a dedicated official site - www.mattsmithofficial.com - and while it is still "under construction" there is an open discussion forum. News: Sonic Screwdriver Explodes (Spoilers?)

12 October 2009 11:38 AM, PDT | Kasterborous.com | See recent Kasterborous news »

On-location snaps of Matt Smith recording Doctor Who last week revealed a key moment in the life of the sonic screwdriver.  It's had so many shapes over the years that it would be foolish to try and list them all here - however it's fair to say that there have been two key designs. In the original series, the Doctor's faithful tool - first seen in the hands of Patrick Troughton's Second Doctor - was a silver device similar to a Gp's otoscope. With the return of Doctor Who in 2005... »

Want To Redesign The Tardis For Doctor Who?

9 October 2009 3:41 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Want to be part of Doctor Who history and redesign the Tardis for the new series? Well, now you’ve got the chance as the television show Blue Peter is running a contest where viewers can submit their Tardis console designs with one lucky winner (chosen by new Doctor, Matt Smith) getting the once-in-a-lifetime chance for their Tardis console to appear in the upcoming fifth series.

There’s only one problem; Blue Peter is a children’s television show and you have to be between the ages of 6-12 to enter. Oh yeah, and live in the UK. Yeah, I’m angry as well. I haven’t wanted to be a British child this bad since I watched Worst Witch at the age of 7. (I soon realized that Worst Witch was about an all-girls witches academy and felt awkward about wanting be to a adolescent British girl.)

Six Great Doctor Who Moments

9 October 2009 12:49 PM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

As we brace ourselves for the new Doctor Who specials, the return of Sarah Jane Adventures, and Matt Smith's first season, here's a little gasoline to pour on the fan-fire – my take on the six top moments on Doctor Who.

6. Quiet Time

There’s a great moment in the Doctor Who teevee movie, one that we had rarely seen (if ever) in the original series: the Doctor, in this case Doctor Seven, quietly sitting in the Tardis in his comphy chair, reading a book. Of course, drama being what it is he quickly gets, well, killed. Fatally. And then begins a difficult regeneration into Doctor Eight. That wasn’t the worst thing that confronted him: he had to face Eric Roberts as the Master. He, and his series of proposed telemovies, was doomed.

5. The Ears Have It

There’s this great moment in Rose, the first of Doctor Nine »
